Message from Miss O’Keeffe:

Well done Econ students, you have shown great resilience in learning Economics this year. Well done for never giving up and for practising those graphs. I know they haven’t all been easy. Special shout out to Chan, Simon and Misha who have worked extremely hard this year and have discovered a great interest in Economics and to, Anna, Alex and Fabio who have mastered the knowledge and who have never given up even when they found content tough. You are all brilliant students and have made me super proud as a teacher and a homeroom tutor. I am excited to see what you can all achieve in DP2 and the knowledge you bring us back from University of Colombia Mikhaylo! Enjoy your summer and see you in term 1 of DP2!

Economics in DP is no joke. Our class went through blood, sweat and tears till we managed to understand economics. But we can finally say that, we have learned a lot and it was worth it! Economics is a tough subject, as it is heavily based on sometimes hard definitions, graphs and even more complicated calculations. Understanding graphs was a very unique experience in itself.

Sometimes it felt like we had to remember a set of random and same lines that made no sense at all, but when you think about it, they all make sense in real life. Internal assessment was a challenging test of our knowledge and our ability to practically apply the skills and understanding that we acquired in the lessons.

Chan:

I believe IB Economics gave me an opportunity to experience the unique IB system and the IA. Unlike other subjects, Economics requires a short Internal Assessment for the first year of IB. This feature helps to make a roadmap for overall IA plan for the next school year. Moreover, I believe learning Economics is useful skills in real-life situations. Thus, we as students can adapt knowledge often. However, memorising the precise definition of terminologies and the structure of IB requires a lot of effort. I didn’t familiarise with the DEEDE structure, and lost marks. From next school year, I’ll try to apply the correct structure.
