WELCOME JIM O’BRIEN NORTHEAST REGIONAL SALES MANAGER
B-TEK is honored to introduce our new Northeast Regional Manager, Jim O’Brien. Jim comes to B-TEK with over 14 years’ experience in the scale industry. Prior to joining B-TEK, Jim was an Area Sales Manager for a regional scale dealer. In this role Jim focused on meeting and exceeding customers expectations. Prior to moving into sales, Jim had experience as a scale technician. His tech expertise included hydro-statics scales, electronic scales, and mechanical scales for various manufacturing industries. Jim’s greatest strengths are his 14 years of experience in the scale industry in both the technical field and sales, along with his ability to develop lasting relationships with new and existing customers through careful listening skills, attention to detail, and service delivery beyond expectations. Jim lives in Marlton, NJ with his wife and daughters. In his free time he is a volunteer firefighter for the Evesham, NJ Fire Department and a volunteer coach for the Marlton Youth Athletic Association.

Constantly refining this software, Wheatley continues to enhance ScaleSoft.NET to meet our customers’ needs and desires for each and every situation. “I have had to write the program in a new language, C# [C Sharp programming language], so it remains sophisticated with the times,” Wheatley said. “ScaleSoft.NET has always kept up with the newest Windows platform to keep the software progressive.” ScaleSoft.NET offers convenient connectivity with access to QuickBooks (the desktop version) to streamline accounting and billing. In addition, any and all data from ScaleSoft.NET can be exported into Microsoft Excel or any other data management platform as a PDF. ScaleSoft.NET can perform with a plethora of weighing indicators; however, the more advanced the indicator, the more facets of ScaleSoft. NET can be utilized. “The DD 2050 terminal with ScaleSoft.NET is a fantastic combination,” Wheatley said. “ScaleSoft.NET and the DD 2050 terminal make the use of RFID cards, truck tags, etc., possible to track and manage trucks, drivers, materials, and more for an organization.”

The software is currently under another round of enhancements using the tools of Developer Express to enable mapping for customer locations and tracking shipments through mobile apps. “Adding the mapping features can take ScaleSoft.NET to the next level,” Wheatley said. “This new feature will enable drivers to map out where their shipment is headed, and others can monitor shipments on a new dynamic. It enhances the mobile app side of ScaleSoft.NET that much more.”
Offering a mobile application to the existing program, ScaleSoft.NET can be accessed through a mobile app on any Android device, including smart phones and tablets. The mobile app permits multiple users to monitor the collected data from numerous scales. Invoices, weights, inventory, sales orders, and more can also be viewed through the ScaleSoft.NET mobile app. “We are also looking to expand the mobile app to Apple products as well,” Wheatley commented. “The time to get into the App Store for Apple tends to be longer than the processing time for entering the Google Play store.”
Either through the main computer program or the mobile app, customers can configure ScaleSoft.NET to send information and updates in a range of different contents to meet any need. ScaleSoft.NET can also track turnaround for purchasing materials. In addition, ScaleSoft.NET can email a copy of a report to multiple people at a certain time of the day, every day. ScaleSoft.NET can send and manage information by filters as well. Users can customize filters for customers, materials, and sales orders. DD700 OR D410 COM2 Configuration Instructions (Connecting to a Computer) Power off indicator, hold in arrow key
(on left side of display), and power up.
Display will show Setup menu language. Select English. After a few seconds, Setup menu will be displayed, choose Personalizations. From Personalization menu choose Outputs. From Outputs menu choose Serial. From Serial menu choose COM2. From COM2 menu choose String: From String menu choose desired output serial string, either B-TEK (Condec clone) or other strings. “Protocol” should be set on “Cyclic” for continuous output. Select “Configuration: Com2” to set the baud, parity, # of bits, and communication interface. To make a change, select the desired menu and a list of choices will be displayed. Select the desired choice, and press ESC once to return to previous menu. After changes have been made, press ESC repeatedly to back up one step at a time through the menus. Display will show “Save changes”, press YES, indicator will re-boot. Wiring:

Quarter 2 Review Brett Kaufman It’s hard to believe we are halfway through 2017 already. Summer is in full swing which means good weather and what seems like a consumer sentiment to match. We had a very nice start to the year and that has continued through quarter two. We have seen strong growth across all product lines with an especially nice spike in our indicator revenue thanks to some new products and software solutions that have separated us from our competition. We have also received a substantial amount of orders for vehicle scales through the early part of this year, with a nice increase in Off Road vehicle scales as well. The Off Road vehicle scale is a niche product that had been in less demand over the past couple of years due to economic conditions, but it is a product that we enjoy building and feel we do better than anybody. While the year has been strong, we still see potential for continued future growth. The agricultural, energy, and secondary steel markets are still well below levels that they have seen in the past five years when the economy was not as strong. The same could really be said for commodities across the board. Piggybacking off of the earlier comment about consumer sentiment, we have an unemployment rate at its lowest point in over a decade and the highest stock market ever. We feel very strong about what this means for the prospects through the rest of the year.
