Beta Alpha December '18

The Brothers of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order would like to wish all of our friends, families, and Brothers a H appy N ew Year! This semester was extremely successful for all of us as a Chapter. We placed 3rd in Greek Week, a first for the Order in over a decade. Brother Scherrer organized a 5K Color Run and helped achieve our philanthropy goal of $100 per active towards the M uscular Dystrophy Association, also known as M DA. Brother H ilgert did a fantastic job helping The Order win another Pink Week and support Breast Cancer Awareness. Thousands of dollars were raised towards scholarships, and the last St. Pat's quilt was auctioned off at H omecoming. We traveled to the Lake of the Ozarks and named Josie Krawitz our 2018 Kappa Alpha Rose at Formal. We watched Brothers Chu, Eckelkamp, Gerlica, and Vogel graduate. And finally we enjoyed a very M erry Christmas.

December '18 Outstanding Achievements The Missouri University of Science and Technology Interfraternity Council had their jacket ceremony on November 28th this semester. Brother Jack Wade worked tirelessly for the past year throughout his training and finally received his jacket, joining Brothers Christian Matoushek and Doran Grieshaber as our IFC representatives. On top of that, IFC recently honored our chapter with several outstanding academic awards and named Brother Clayton Newburry as their Fraternity Man of the Year!

December '18 W O RD S FRO M T H E I I'm honored to have been chosen by the chapter to serve as President over the next year, and look forward to improving on what those before us have done, and setting up those after us for even higher successes. As an officer corps, we look to improve chapter operations in all facets (as I'm sure all newly elected/ appointed officers say), yet I am confident that this group of men has the drive necessary to do so. As I'm sure you've seen, recruitment is going almost too well, as we will have twenty-eight freshmen total this spring. Additionally, at the IFC Awards Banquet we brought home a healthy amount of awards, in particular Outstanding Academic Program, and our outgoing president, Clayton Newburry, won Fraternity Man of the Year! In terms of GPA, things are hurting a bit, as our projected GPA for this semester is floating around a 3.2, however our new III believes our members were confident in their finals, and the number should tend to the high end of our expectations. The beginning of next semester is busy for the chapter, as mentioned above Convivium will be Monday, January 21st, the day before the first day of classes for the spring semester. The following weekend (January 25th and 26th) will be Province Council in Carbondale, Illinois, which we'll be taking our new officers as well as a few emerging leaders to. Continuing on with that trend, Induction will be Friday, February 1st, and will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla. If you would like to attend any of these events, please just shoot me an email, and we'll see what we can do. Wishing you & your families a Happy New Year! Fraternally, Joe Studer, No. I
