READING CRUCIAL FOR DEVELOPMENT

Reading is one of the main approaches to increasing knowledge, allowing us to enrich our mind and raise our capabilities. The importance of reading was highlighted by Acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Hjh Adina binti Othman in her opening remarks at the National Story-telling Competition at RTB. In her speech, she noted, "We can educate ourselves through reading. Knowledge and information gained through reading can also be transformed into thinking skills, which correlates with increasing the standard of living, being able to compete and moving forward in the current world. A community that enjoys reading will definitely be viewed as a society that is educated, highly skilled and successful - characteristics of which are necessary to achieve the Brunei Vision 2035, she explained. Therefore, she added, "the reading culture is directly linked to the development and progress of a nation. The culture of reading must be instilled and spread throughout all communities, especially among children and youths. This is important as this generation will become future leaders of the country's development". Go to page 2
