CHAIRMAN’S COLUMN by: Kevin S. Putman, Jr. CBCC Chairman of the Board

I

t is with great reflection and enthusiasm that I address you today as the Chairman of the Board for the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce. Time has swiftly passed, and I find it hard to believe that an entire year has elapsed since I assumed this role. In our previous communication, we delved into the theme of TRANSFORMATION, and, indeed, the past twelve months have witnessed a remarkable evolution. You may have undoubtedly noticed our revitalized branding, characterized by a vibrant logo and an updated tagline, “Empowering Businesses and Uniting Communities.” Our Chamber team, now firmly integrated, has spent a year honing their understanding of their roles and responsibilities, all in pursuit of our Chamber’s mission. Collectively, they have made substantial strides by actively listening, learning, and instituting structural enhancements and strategic plans to propel the Chamber forward. In the ever-changing landscape of local business, a flourishing Chamber serves as the lifeblood of the community. The Chamber’s success and significance hinge considerably on its ability to effectively foster ENGAGEMENT among its members. As we look back on the events of 2023, it becomes evident that numerous initiatives have substantially enriched Member engagement within our Chamber. Face-to-face interactions have remained at the core of community engagement, and our Chamber has consistently provided ample opportunities for such connections. From Networking events and Committee meetings to our Annual Business Conference, we have facilitated many occasions for Members to connect, exchange insights, and nurture relationships. Recognizing the potency of knowledge-sharing as an engagement tool, we have collaborated with industry experts to provide professional development seminars on topics pertinent to our local businesses, thus delivering tangible value to our Members while underscoring our unwavering commitment to their success.

ABOUT THE COVER…

Incorporating new Members into our Chamber and celebrating the accomplishments of local businesses has cultivated a sense of pride and belonging within our community. Acknowledging milestones through our publications, website, and social media platforms has fostered a positive and cohesive spirit. Listening attentively to Member feedback has been instrumental in our journey of continuous improvement. Over the past year, we have implemented a Member Survey, conducted Focus Groups segmented by business types, introduced programs based on Member suggestions, and hosted a Town Hall Meeting open to all Members. These initiatives have underscored our commitment to transparency and Member satisfaction. As we conclude this year of accomplishments, we remain steadfast in our commitment to building upon these successes and making informed, targeted decisions when change is warranted. Our strategic plans for 2024 and beyond have been meticulously crafted with our Members at the forefront of our considerations. Our calendar is brimming with educational, social, and professional development opportunities, while our eleven Committees empower Members to actively shape our collective future. Prioritizing ENGAGEMENT enables a Chamber to forge deeper connections within the community, evolving into an indispensable resource that drives collaboration, growth, and success for its Members and the broader business community. We wholeheartedly encourage you to engage with us in 2024, as we believe it will be a year filled with unparalleled opportunities and benefits. In closing, I extend warm wishes to you and your families for a safe, healthy, and joyous holiday season.

NEWS FEED FOR ASSOCIATION & CHAMBER PARTNERS

EMBRACING FAMILY FRIENDLY BENEFITS In today’s work environment, the line between personal and professional life is becoming increasingly blurred. As a result, employees are seeking more comprehensive benefits that accommodate their family responsibilities and foster a healthy work-life balance. More employers today have begun to understand that an expansion of family-friendly benefits above and beyond federal law requirements is a key facet to protecting the physical and mental health of their workers.

Family friendly benefits are essential in attracting and retaining top talent, as they demonstrate an organization’s commitment to supporting its employees beyond the workplace. Employers can utilize a few key strategies in order to effectively include family-friendly benefits in their employee benefit package, which can help lead to positive impacts on employee well-being, job satisfaction and overall organizational success. FLEXIBLE WORK ARRANGEMENTS One of the most fundamental principles of family-friendly benefits is that of flexible work arrangements. This can allow employees to better balance their professional and family obligations, and include options like telecommuting, flextime, compressed workweeks or job sharing. Offering such flexibility not only enhances employee happiness but also improves productivity and job

satisfaction. By focusing on results rather than strict office hours, employers can demonstrate a trust of their employees to manage their time and deliver the required performance, leading to a more motivated and engaged workforce. PAID PARENTAL LEAVE Paid Parental Leave plays an important role in promoting family-friendly policies. Providing adequate time off and compensation for new mothers and fathers allows employees to bond with their children during those formative early months. Beyond the emotional benefits, paid parental leave also contributes to increased employee loyalty, reduced turnover and a positive employer brand that attracts top talent seeking a supportive work environment.

camps. By offering this benefit, employers help reduce the financial burden of childcare costs for employees, making it easier for them to manage work and family responsibilities without sacrificing their financial stability. ELDER CARE SUPPORT Family friendly benefits should not be limited to childcare, organizations should also consider elder care support for employees with aging parents or family members in need of assistance. Offering resources, counseling and referrals for elder care services can provide much needed relief to employees navigating these complex family situations. WORK-LIFE BALANCE PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES Implementing work-life balance programs and resources can help employees better manage their personal and professional commitments. This may include wellness programs, stress management workshops, counseling services or flexible time-off policies. Employers can encourage a healthy work-life balance by promoting self-care and providing avenues for employees to recharge and rejuvenate, ultimately leading to increased productivity and reduced burnout.

ON-SITE OR SUBSIDIZED CHILDCARE Supporting working parents by offering on-site or subsidized childcare is a game-changer for many employees. By alleviating the stress of finding reliable childcare, employers can demonstrate their commitment to the well-being and needs of their employees. Additionally, on-site childcare can improve attendance, reduce lateness, and boost overall productivity. 7 CULTURE BUILDERS TO ATTRACT & RETAIN YOUR BEST PEOPLE

Jay Desko, Ph.D., President & CEO of The Center Consulting Group I once saw an office reception sign that said: “If you mistreat our staff, you will be refused service.” Why don’t we see signs like that in places known for exceptional customer service? Because they have cultures that attract people rather than repel them. Here are seven culture builders to attract the best employees and customers. 1. Incorporate appropriate humor and celebration. When you step into an attractive culture, you can feel and hear the difference including laughter, smiles, and positivity. 2. Care for one another by meeting needs and showing interest. A caring culture is a sticky culture – one that people will be slow to leave. 3. Model competency by striving for excellence. A positive culture also requires talent – people showing up for work, working hard, and knowing how to do their job and doing it with excellence. 4. Express positivity in how you present yourself. “Eeyore” from Winnie the Pooh would not be a good recruitment poster. One negative team member can bring down the whole team’s performance. 5. Provide opportunities for growth. A good culture is one where people have the chance to grow, learn, and advance including challenging assignments, financial incentives, and educational opportunities. 6. Connect with and engage others. A survey by real estate services company JLL found 70% of office workers felt being in the workplace was more helpful for collaborating, solving complex issues, and connecting with leadership. 7. Hire for cultural fit, not just skill. There is no infallible way to assess cultural fit, but knowing what you value and including your best people in the hiring process can help. The Center Consulting Group is passionate about helping leaders lead well. Whether you lead a values-based business, nonprofit, or church, our experienced team will create customized solutions to help you advance your leadership and organizational health. M&W PRECAST & CONSTRUCTION SUPPLY AIMS TO DOUBLE SALES VOLUME

M

&W Precast & Construction Supply expects modular precast growth to increase 30% year over year through 2025. M&W Precast is a division of Wehrung’s Family of Businesses based in Ottsville. The revenue growth projection mirrors growth trends over the past three years – in fact M&W Precast’s growth could be significantly higher. The global precast concrete market was valued at about $144.6 billion in 2022. The sector is anticipated to reach $198 billion by 2027 according to a September, 2023 Markets and Markets.com report. As the first business to launch the Wehrung’s family owned and operated brand more than 75 years ago, precast concrete continues to provide durable, sustainable building materials for a broad variety of construction applications – from office buildings and hotels to apartments and residential housing components. “We are one of the few remaining familyowned precast companies,” said Jason Wehrung, president of Wehrung’s and the third generation to helm the company.

Despite coronavirus pandemic challenges and supply chain hiccups Wehrung’s continued to expanded its homegrown niche footprint – and robust business growth –from Bucks County into the Lehigh Valley, Montgomery County, Philadelphia and south and western New Jersey. A newly created position of vice president of sales for Wehrung’s aims to ensure the company’s future and sustainable growth across all its divisions and brands.

His experience working with a similar family-owned business will help Wehrung’s cross train team members and expand collaboration between Wehrung’s business brands. “Wehrung’s is at the same place where I began my career with a small familyoriented company,” serving contractors and construction trades in Hammonton, New Jersey, Agnese said.

Many Wehrung’s company team members have spent a years working for the company. It is not uncommon to speak with Paul Agnese began his tenure with Wehrung’s September 5, 2023. The position employees who have 20, 30, 35 or more years of experience working at the firm. is part of a vision to essential double the Wehrung’s company’s revenue. Jason Wehrung credits the company culture, which has been built on respect, Agnese will be responsible for a new sales and operations team to be hired to expand by his grandfather Woodrow “Woody” Wehrung and nurtured by his father the precast concrete division, as well as integrating departments and teams across Vernon, as best summed up by the firm’s mission statement: the organization. “We want team members to talk more broadly about product lines” and help customers directly with their questions, Agnese said. “Right now we have a lot of great folks with a ton of experience, and we’re at a crossroads,” Agnese said.

To be known as a respectable and high-spirited company devoted to serving God, our customers, our employees, and our community. To provide opportunities for growth as we vigorously pursue an unmatched level of excellence in efficiency, profitability, quality, and service in all aspects of our business.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CRISIS STABILIZATION CENTER COMING TO BUCKS COUNTY Expected to break ground in 2024, the center will bring together under one roof all the components of crisis services that are now fractured across our system.

F

amilies and individuals struggling with a behavioral health challenge such as mental illness, drug & alcohol use, or intellectual disabilities soon will have a new place to go for help. Plans were unveiled recently for a new, specially designed crisis stabilization center in Doylestown that will bring the best practices in behavioral health systems of care to Bucks County. A major advancement in behavioral health services, the stabilization center will bring together under one roof all the components of crisis services that are now fractured across our system: mental health, drug and alcohol, intellectual disabilities and more, in an environment designed to deescalate the crises. The first of its kind in Pennsylvania, the center is a collaborative effort between

Lenape Valley Foundation, Doylestown Health, Bucks County Department of Behavioral Health/Developmental Programs, Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission, Magellan Behavioral Health, and NAMI. Lenape Valley Foundation will operate the center.

Valley Foundation site at 500 N. West Street, on the grounds of, but separate from, Doylestown Hospital – and that difference is crucial, said Jim Brexler, CEO of Doylestown Health.

“This new center will bring together the various types of services that an individual in crisis needs, so we can get the full picture of this human being and help them on their journey to recovery,” said Sharon Curran, CEO of Lenape Valley Foundation. Local elected officials and leaders from the involved organizations gathered on Oct. 19 at Lenape Valley Foundation in Doylestown to reveal the rendering of the new building. Set to begin construction in 2024, the 22,000-square-foot center will be located next to the existing Lenape

SPOTLIGHT: AMADA SENIOR CARE

M

att and Ashley Ushler are proud owners of Amada Senior Care, servicing Bucks and Montgomery Counties, the area in which they were both raised and where they currently reside with their three boys. The personal experience they had having three grandmothers that needed care is what compelled them to get into senior care themselves. They wanted to help other families going through similar situations. Having the right agency with which to partner and right person there to care for grandmom made all the difference! The

most important qualities they were looking for in a caregiver was that they were qualified and trustworthy. In addition, they wanted an agency that was flexible with hours and scheduling. Amada Senior Care staffs a Care Manager to perform regular quality visits to ensure that clients are receiving the highest quality care. This also helps them ensure that as needs change, they are ready to adapt and provide the services that are needed. All staff goes through Home Care Standards Bureau training. Amada Senior Care is the only agency in the Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Bucks County area that is A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau and the Home Care Standards Bureau.

In addition to the high-quality training, Amada Senior Care also performs a very thorough background check. They do not hire anyone with theft or abuse in their background. No excuses! They will not send someone to care for a client that they wouldn’t send to care for their own grandmothers. Lastly, they are Long-Term Care Insurance experts. They can advocate for you and work directly with your insurance company. If your premium is continuing to increase, call them for help or simply call for a free policy review today. For more information on Amada Senior Care, visit www.AmadaBucksMontgomery. com or call or text them anytime for a free consultation at (215) 422-3095.
