Thank you for your interest in After School Enrichment! Throughout the pages of this catalog, you will find a variety of high quality Enrichment opportunities for Brookwood students in EC through Grade 8. You will be able to sign your child(ren) up for classes via the Google Form links on each course's page.

Please note: due to minimum and maximum enrollment constraints, enrollment for Enrichment classes are finalized upon the submission of each Google Form and cannot be changed at any point including right after submission, before the course starts, or during the session. As a reminder, to be involved in an Enrichment class on a particular day, your child also has to be enrolled in our Regular After School Program for that same day of the week. If your child is not registered for regular After School but needs to be enrolled so he/she/they can be signed up for an Enrichment Class, please email the Director of Auxiliary Programs, Kyla McMahon, at kmcmahon@brookwood.edu. If a class doesn't hit its minimum enrollment, you will be notified of the course's cancelation. The Overview: Students in this class will learn the ancient art of glass fusing! This class requires no prior experience and is ideal for students who are curious about art and love working with their hands. Students will be taught through demonstrations and hands-on instruction about different methods for cutting, working with and arranging glass. They’ll learn about color, composition and other art terms to further their understanding of glass work. All students will be taught the basic building blocks of working with glass through specific small projects including pendants, coasters, and sandblasted cups. After making these glass creations, each participant will complete a larger project like a serving platter, a unique and ornate jewelry bowl, picture frame, or sun catcher!

Register Here Chess The Overview: Checkmate! Set up your own winning position. Whether you are poised to challenge other grandmasters, or you don't know your castle from your pawn, this class is for you. Brookwood's own Joe Cardoza will guide chess enthusiasts on the intricacies of chess while building their sportsmanship, resilience, and decision making skills. Come enjoy the competition and camaraderie of chess. Please note: This class needs a minimum of 5 students to run and has a maximum enrollment of 20. Miss Marci has a Masters degree in Education from Harvard, a BA in Creative Writing from UCLA, and a Certificate in Novel Writing from Stanford. She has written 4 bestselling books and is also a Senior Academic Advisor at Knovva Academy teaching students all over the world how to write. Miss Marci created and taught wildly popular classes based on children’s literature at Brookwood for the past eight years, and she weaves magic and sparkles into storytelling to ignite a love of literature. Miss Marci has worked in the field of education as a teacher and curriculum designer for more than thirty years and currently teaches teachers how to integrate the arts into teaching strategies at Endicott College.

Harry Potter

The Overview: Calling all Wizards! In this enchanting course, students receive magical spellbooks and learn the following: Charms and Curses, Owls, Transfiguration, Potions class, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Magic Wands (remember, the wand chooses you!), a trip to Hogsmeade (in the Library) for Butterbeer and Chocolate Frogs, and of course making our own broomstick for a rousing game of Quidditch. No muggles allowed!

The Overview: Begin your first steps on the path of the Peaceful Warrior. Students will gain strength, agility, coordination, balance, flexibility, and confidence as they work with Master Victoria DeMarco from Safe Harbor North, Family Martial Arts (and more) in Beverly. This class is for students interested in trying the discipline of Martial Arts. No prior experience necessary! This class will not have or belt tests. In this class, you’ll learn how to use your doodling skills for real, by doing design projects for local nonprofits or small businesses. You will learn how to make professional posters and art that people want to pay for, and you’ll ultimately design posters and ads for real organizations with good causes. Our students' work has been used in ads and online Instagrams posts by the Special Olympics, Martha's Kitchen, and local shelters.

The Overview: LET'S DANCE! Calling all Hip Hop dancers NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! We are excited to offer a fun filled class moving to some of your favorite tunes! Join Miss Andrea for an exciting adventure that will leave you energized and smiling! Class will include a high energy warm up, introduction to new steps and hip hop moves, and some fun choreography! Dance builds self confidence, encourages self expression, and promotes physical fitness. Children will explore, discover, and create together as they work on listening skills, making connections, and creating their own works of art each week with the staff from Total Arts!

Register Here Goosebumps (Non-scary) The Overview: Celebrate autumn with Goosebumps! It’s thrilling! It’s chilling! And it's a whole lot of fun! But don’t worry - it won’t be scary at all. Every week we will focus on a different Goosebumps book through crafting, movement, music, and activities. We will play spooky games like Abominable Snow Monster Tag and Night at the Museum, make Monster Bookmarks, wrap ourselves up like mummies, and even make zombie cookies! All to promote a love of reading.

Register Here Mindful Movement The Overview: Brookwood’s youngest are invited to join Wellness Coordinator Jean Skaane in a playful and developmentally appropriate mindfulness practice. This course provides opportunities for students to understand, experience, and relate to their thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations through a curious and compassionate lens. Benefits of mindfulness for students often include: stronger emotional regulation skills, stress/anxiety reduction, improved concentration/memory, reduced impulsivity, better performance in school, and improved sleep. This is a safe environment for students to develop tools to help them to effectively navigate their lives.

Register Here Improv The Overview: Whether you want to be a musical theatre performer or a standup comedian, there are numerous benefits to improv! Through a series of theatre games and improv exercises, students in this class will strengthen their abilities to stay in the moment and think quickly on their feet.

The Overview: Do you love to cook? Want to know more recipes? In this unique cooking class for young kids, students learn all about food: how to make it, how to make it safely, and how to use it for good! You’ll learn about food safety, meet new friends, and cook some (oven less) recipes from all 6 inhabited continents. Everything you cook will be easy to make and suitable for afterschool cooking: including “easy pizza”, Japanese Onigiri (Rice Balls), and other finger-foods from Africa, Asia, and South America. During sessions, you and your friends will play fun cooking games, learn a few words from another culture, and learn about local games for the country we are immersing ourselves in. At the end of class, you'll have a whole recipe book you can use to impress friends and family at home!
