ISSUE: 006 / FEBRUARY YEAR: 2022
BROOKWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL As the calendar changes from January to February, I would like to highlight two (2) of the amazing things that happened at Brookwood Middle School during January. The first one is that students completed the winter NWEA (MAP) test. I am proud to announce the overall scores in both Reading and Math increased from fall to winter. The students in 5th grade increased their overall score in Math by 3.9 points and in Reading by 2.5 points. The 6th graders increased their overall score in Math by 3.6 points and in Reading by 4.0 points. The second item was the students began preparing for Black History Month by watching a presentation called Historical Perspective for Children. The 5th graders watched a presentation on Wilma Rudolph and the 6th graders watched a presentation on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. During the presentation, students watched the life of their person from childhood through adulthood. The presentation also showed the students how their person developed character qualities that were needed, such as resilience, leadership, empathy, curiosity, honesty, self-regulation and optimism, to achieve their dreams and goals. As we approach the month of February, we will continue to do amazing things to help our students be successful and foster their love of learning. LaShawn Stewart | Principal
