Brighton College Vietnam
June, 2025 Newsletter

As we come to the end of our second year at Brighton College Vietnam, I have been reflecting on just how far we have come in such a short space of time. This year has been full of memorable moments that have helped shape the character and spirit of our College. And while it would be easy to list every highlight, what stands out most is the strong sense of purpose, energy, and community that runs through everything we do.
We were proud to become an accredited IB World School this year, a significant milestone that reflects the ambition and quality of our academic offer. Our first cohort of Year 11 pupils completed their IGCSE examinations with maturity and determination, and we were pleased to receive excellent feedback during our BSO safeguarding inspection, which affirmed our commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for every pupil.
Alongside these externally recognised achievements, the life of the College has continued to flourish. We celebrated our cultural identity through the Tet Fair and International Day, and witnessed creativity and talent on display in the Spring Concert and the outstanding production of Blue Stockings. Pupils ran, jumped, and cheered their way through Sports Day, amazed us at the Science Fair, and rose to the challenge in the 300,000 VND enterprise competition. Our Distinguished Lecture Series brought experts and new perspectives into our community, while the Scholars Talks gave pupils the opportunity to explore big ideas, think critically, and reflect on the world around them.
The residential trips offered unforgettable opportunities for pupils to connect with each other and experience learning beyond the classroom. We also welcomed families to our IB and university workshops as part of our growing commitment to future readiness.
At the heart of it all has been our shared ethos of curiosity, confidence, and kindness. These are the values that define who we are and who we continue to become. They are evident in every classroom, every rehearsal, every sports fixture, and in the small everyday interactions that make Brighton College Vietnam such a special place to learn and grow.
As we look ahead to August, there is much to be excited about. We will open both our Sixth Form and Early Years provision, completing the educational journey from our youngest learners through to our most senior pupils. The arrival of our first IB Diploma cohort marks a major step forward in our development, and with it comes the promise of even greater opportunities for all.
Thank you for your continued support and belief in our College. It has been a year of real achievement, and the best is yet to come.
Warmest wishes,
Carly Barber, Head of College

Launching in 2026, our Early Years programme offers a nurturing and inspiring environment where every child is known, supported, and encouraged to flourish. We believe this joyful beginning lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning - sparked by curiosity, guided by kindness, and marked by meaningful growth.
The Early Years programme is grounded in the EYFS framework – the foundation of early education across schools in the UK. This well-established approach places emphasis on purposeful play, exploration, and strong relationships between children and educators, creating an environment where pupils grow with curiosity, confidence, and kindness.
Children in the Early Years experience a creative, engaging, and joyful curriculum enriched by a wide range of meaningful learning opportunities. Working in small groups allows our teachers to truly understand each child, providing personalised support that nurtures both their learning and personal development.
Children learn through a broad and balanced curriculum that supports their development across communication, physical coordination, emotional wellbeing, early literacy and numeracy, creativity, and understanding of the world. The programme encourages self-expression, social interaction, and independence, helping children build essential skills for lifelong learning.
This June marked a joyful milestone for Brighton College Vietnam as we officially opened our new Sixth Form Centre. At this special event, we were delighted to welcome Mr Graeme Owton, CEO of Brighton College International, and Mr Will Lawrenson, British Deputy Consul General, whose presence affirmed our strong ties to the wider Brighton College family and our shared vision for educational excellence. The occasion also brought together parents, pupils and colleagues, united in the belief that the years ahead will be filled with discovery and inspiring achievements.
Designed to reflect the increasing independence of our senior pupils, the Centre offers a harmonious balance between academic focus and social connection. Its layout encourages both collaborative learning and individual study, with open-plan areas, flexible seating, and dedicated spaces for informal gatherings, university events, and enrichment activities.
Every detail - from furniture to lightinghas been thoughtfully selected to create an environment that is mature, welcoming, and aligned with the needs of pupils preparing for life beyond school.
“This is a fantastic milestone for the school as we are opening the very first Sixth Form at Brighton College Vietnam. It means we now offer a full higher education programme, which is incredibly exciting. Admissions officers from around the world will be visiting, engaging with our pupils, and sharing insights into opportunities, experiences, scholarships - and the bright futures that lie ahead.” - Ms Rachel Duce, Director of Futures.
At Brighton College Vietnam, STEM education is deeply embedded across all stages of learning - from Prep School to Sixth Form - nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving from an early age.
Through hands-on learning in Science, Design Technology, and Mathematics, pupils at Brighton College Vietnam tackle real-world challenges and build essential skills for a fast-changing world. From Prep onwards, these subjects are integrated through practical, project-based experiences that foster conceptual understanding, creativity, and problem-solving. This pathway leads to globally respected qualifications like the IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP), which prepare pupils for top universities through rigorous, research-based, interdisciplinary learning.
Our pupils benefit from world-class STEM facilities, including 3D printers, laser cutters, CAD software, and dedicated science labs. These tools support creative problem-solving and allow pupils to take their ideas from concept to reality. Whether designing sustainable products or building functional prototypes, pupils gain hands-on experience that strengthens both their technical and collaborative abilities.
Beyond lessons, pupils engage in a rich variety of co-curricular activities that bring STEM to life in creative and meaningful ways. From Coding Club and Creative Computing to robotics, animation, and AI exploration, these experiences deepen learning while fostering collaboration and resilience. Programmes like F1 in Schools integrate physics, design, and teamwork, while digital media clubs allow pupils to experiment with graphic design and storytelling through technology. These co-curricular opportunities not only enhance pupils’ technical fluency but also build the confidence and adaptability needed to thrive in a changing world.
At Brighton College Vietnam, every pupil's journey is unique - shaped by curiosity, confidence and kindness. Step into their world, hear their stories, and experience their journey firsthand.
June was a vibrant celebration of creativity at Brighton College Vietnam, highlighted by two remarkable Art Exhibitions that showcased the artistic journeys of our pupils.
"I love making things and working with my friends in HEALTH class. It’s not always easy to get everything friends makes it even more fun! At home, I also help my parents cook by making salads or soups for dinner.
From Prep to Senior School, our galleries came alive with sculptures, sketches, and mixed-media workseach inspired by themes ranging from lush rainforests to timeless folk tales. Every piece told a unique story of imagination, keen observation, and growing confidence in self-expression
Visitors were not only captivated by the visual impact but also by the bold ideas and curiosity behind each creation. These exhibitions reflected the depth of creativity nurtured throughout the year, underscoring our commitment to developing each pupil’s distinctive artistic voice.
“The Summer Art Exhibition is a chance to showcase all of the achievements we’ve made over the past 12 months, providing a rich and diverse display of artistic excellence that underscores the creativity and dedication of the pupils.” - Mr Michael Cooper (Director of Art)
What an unforgettable debut for our Prep Talent Show! With energy, creativity, and courage, the stage lit up as incredible finalists showcased their passions – dazzling us with gymnastics, belting out songs, beating the drums, gliding on roller skates, and so much more.
Each performance was a moment of magic, as pupils stepped up with confidence and kindness, cheered on by an audience filled with joy and pride.
At Brighton College Vietnam, we always encourage our pupils to step forward, express themselves, and shine in their own unique ways.
Seven outstanding scholars from Brighton College Vietnam took to the stage at BrightTalk Evening, delivering thought-provoking talks in the spirit of the iconic TED format. From the biology of size to the ethics of human
These talks were the result of weeks of independent research and deep reflection, nurtured through our weekly Tuesday talk series. As part of our scholars’ support programme, the event highlighted confident communication, critical thinking, and the values of curiosity, kindness, and confidence – inspiring peers
Annie – The Secrets of Size
Annie uncovered how something as simple as size can determine how a living organism breathes, moves, and survives. Her talk revealed the often-overlooked power of scale in biology.
Patricio Gomez – If Earth Vanished Tomorrow, Would the Universe Notice?
With a cosmic lens, Patricio invited us to consider how small and fragile our planet truly is, urging us to take the urgent responsibility to protect it in the face of a vast and indifferent universe.
Binh Nguyen uncovered the scientific beauty behind one of nature’s most intricate creations, exploring how snowflakes form and why they always display hexagonal symmetry.
Through a sharp social lens, Dieu Anh reflected how preconceived notions shape our perceptions and social interactions, often giving rise to harmful stereotypes.
Sage revisited the classic Trolley Problem to explore the tension between feeling and logic in moral decisions. With clarity and nuance, she invited us to weigh both perspectives.
Thanh Ha raised a provocative question: can well-intentioned representation backfire? Her talk compared focused and casual representation, arguing for a more inclusive, everyday portrayal of identity.
Ha Anh shared a moving reflection on regret exploring how it can be more than just a negative emotion, it can serve as a powerful motivator. Success, she reminded us, isn’t always about getting what you want, but about knowing you never backed down.
As the school year came to a close, the Brighton College Vietnam community gathered for our much-anticipated Prize Giving Ceremony – a joyful celebration of achievement, growth, and the values that shape who we are. More than a recognition of academic excellence, Prize Giving honours the perseverance, kindness, and curiosity that define our pupils' journeys.
It is not about perfection, but progress – about celebrating the quiet determination behind every success, the courage to keep trying, and the spark of inspiration that so often begins in the classroom and grows through friendship and support. This special occasion offered a moment of pride for our entire community, applauding not only what our pupils have achieved, but the remarkable individuals they are becoming.
At Brighton College Vietnam, each pupil is allocated to one of our four Houses: Chichester, Fenwick, Hampden and Ryle. These Houses bring together pupils across year groups, creating a strong, multi-age community where older pupils mentor younger ones, and everyone contributes to a shared sense of belonging. Through this structure, pupils develop leadership skills, build friendships beyond their form, and engage in healthy, spirited competition.
Over the past year, House life has thrived through a vibrant calendar of events - from Sports Day and art competitions to table football tournaments and charity fundraising. Each House selects a charity to support, and pupils work together on creative fundraising initiatives, reinforcing the values of teamwork, empathy, and social responsibility.
