Hail to the ale!
n Community has pledged £100,000 for craft-beer pub in The Lanes n Founders say it could open by the summer n The idea was in response to wide-spread opposition to Burger King proposal A craft-beer pub could open at the seafront entrance to The Lanes as soon as the summer, after more than 300 people invested £100,000 into the project. The Bison Arms, was pitched as “a pub for locals, by locals”, as an alternative to Burger King - which had set its sights on the old Mariner pub. But an application by a franchisee for the fast-food chain was turned down and this week, The Bison
Arms raised the funds it needed to take its own plans forward. The crowdfunding campaign by Bison Beer and the Bottom’s Rest pub hit its target one week before the deadline. Jack Cregan, coowner of Bison Beer, said: “The people of Brighton got behind it. I don’t think there is anywhere else in the country where this would happen.” See page 3
