INSPIRATION & CONCEPT The restaurant's layout and aesthetic was primarily inspired by the use of designs commonly found in the Ethiopian culture. Dropped ceilings and monochromatic flooring pay homage to the culture. While angled walls and bold upholstery paired with custom geometric windows reflect the vibrant and colorful patterns often seen throughout their textiles.

The design of the flagship store was inspired by MiiR’s mission of empowering the community through the connection of resources and products to those in need. With the idea of connectivity and their product being the driving force, the bike wheel gave way to the layout of the space. The spokes that exist in an outward form, connecting a central gear to the tire influenced the radial arrangement of products and services throughout the store.

DEAD PAINTING Dead painting, also known as underpainting or Vermeer Painting is not a commonly practiced technique these days. Because of this, our art professor encouraged us to learn this beautiful form of painting Underpainting is a monochromatic version of the final painting where forms are given substance, volume, light and shadows to create illumination. Color is applied only after the painting has dried.

LOTERIA SERIES Loteria is a game that is similar to bingo but uses a deck of cards with images and names instead of ping pong balls. The game, originating in Italy, was later brought to Mexico and is played during family gatherings and at Mexican fairs. I grew up playing Loteria on weekends with my family and still do to this day. It is such a big part of my culture which inspired this small series of paintings based on some of my favorite cards from the deck.

[ABOUT ME ] Raised in Austin, I am a graduate of Texas State University, San Marcos. I received a Bachelors of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences in Interior Design with a minor in Business Administration. I have always been an inquisitive and creative individual and find joy in experiencing the beauty and quirkiness that life has to offer. I enjoy many aspects of design. Taking a new or existing space and discovering what works best for it and the users is my passion and why I enjoy space planning. I am excited to make my mark in the world using the skills and knowledge I’ve obtained to create designs that can be utilized by many.
