Time to get out those skates! Skating is rolling on at the Leisure Centre. It’s taken a while to get the wheels back in motion again, but skating is back for the young, and even the not-so-young, at the Leisure Centre. And the happy youngsters doing laps of the floor can’t get enough of it. Skating sessions for the town’s kids was the brainchild of Bridgetown resident Maria Aeon White and her partner Dean Brockwell who started it approximately 15 months ago. However, it’s been in hiatus for some time while the couple reorganized the running of the event as an incorporated body with a small committee. She’d like to see other people coming on board to help. “We need more committee members,” Ms White said. “We need more hands on deck, because it’s a lot of work for a small committee.” The event has attracted up to 75 kids to the sessions which are held on alternate Friday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30pm, and Sunday mornings from 10 to 12. The entrance fee is $10 on Friday nights, and $7 on Sundays, while skate hire is $5 per session, but you can also bring your own skates. Enclosed shoes are compulsory on court and children under 12 need to be supervised by an adult. If you’re new to skating, that’s fine, because there’s free 30 minute lessons in the middle of the courts at the start of the session.
