INDOOR SOCCER IS A BALL FOR KIDS

It’s not quite the World Cup, but the round ball game is great fun for the kids.

It may lack a little of the intensity of the Women’s World Cup final, with thousands of screaming fans whipped into a frenzy, but nevertheless Bridgetown’s kids have been having a great time kicking a soccer ball each Friday night down at the Leisure Centre. The rules may be a bit loose and arbitrary, with a referee nowhere in sight to blow the whistle, and one or two handballs going unnoticed, but the kids keep track of the score nonetheless.

The action was fast and furious for the nine youngters who turned out on the 25th of August.

The parents are there to watch proceedings and the consensus is that it’s a pity that more kids don’t turn up for an evening that’s fun for all.

It was the highlight of a first quarter in which Bridgetown’s inaccuracy cost them dearly, with the Bulldogs 3.6 to the Cougars 2.3.

Bridgetown’s goalkicking yips continued into the second quarter, with the Bulldogs putting on another 2.6 to Kojonup’s 1.1 in a hard-fought affair.

The Bulldogs emerged after half time breathing fire, streaming forward in numbers, and kicking several unanswered goals, and finally hitting their target.

Halfway through the quarter the Cougars looked gone for all money, but they staged an impressive fight back, kicking 4.4 to Bridgetown’s 5.3, in what turned out to be a very even quarter.

The Cougars carried the fight to the Bulldogs right to the end, adding 4 straight goals and outscoring them, but that 25 point margin at three-quarter time proved too high a mountain to climb, with the Bulldogs running out winners 13.17: 95 to 11.8:74.

Bridgetown now head to the Grand Final at Boyup Brook oval on the 9th of September to play either Kojonup or Imperials, who’ll fight out the Preliminary Final at Deanmill on the 3rd of September.
