Weekly Pastor’s Note
My heart is so grateful to God for His great faithfulness Last week as a church, we set aside three days of prayer, asking God to pour out His Spirit, as we stepped not only into fresh visions/plans as a church but also into the Christmas season that is upon us
And hasn’t God been faithful! Not only are we receiving powerful stories from the 3500 hampers that have been delivered to our community, but also the wonderful stories from Wednesday’s Seniors’ High Tea. The presence of God was so evident as 1000 seniors from across Brisbane were hosted in the main auditorium (A1) over two sittings
It is hard to put into words the way in which volunteers of all ages from this church faithfully served with the love and joy of Jesus Truly it was a remarkable picture of the body of Christ in action. Buses and maxi taxis carefully loaded, food and drinks lovingly served, and needs joyfully met. Then to top it off was the Gospel being presented in word and song.
Many people I farewelled were in awe of what they had just witnessed, including an elderly man clinging to his new Bible pack. His words to me were, “Well, I wasn’t expecting to experience that”.
A massive thank you to all those who baked, hosted, volunteered and helped with the resetting of the auditorium.
A big thank you must go out to Joan Duensing for overseeing the event, and also to Jenny, Kata, Dirk and the amazing kitchen team for the massive effort they put in
Church, please keep praying as we look toward Christmas Lights and services and the joy it will be to host thousands of people onto the church grounds Our greatest desire in this season is that people will hear and encounter Jesus We know that Jesus is truly the only answer to what the world is seeking and once again we are to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we serve and love our community
We are still in need of more volunteers right across the three nights and also for setup and pack down. If you have capacity please head over to the church website and register.
Also this past week, Pastor David and many young adults from Bridgeman have been down the Gold Coast with Red Frogs serving and caring for this year ’ s Schoolies. Each year there are many stories where the Red Frogs teams have been critical in protecting, caring for and rescuing Schoolies
One report Dave mentioned to me was that they are having heaps of amazing God chats, with connections being made and faith conversations The openness is incredible.
Keep praying for Pastor David and the Red Frogs team as they love this generation with the love of Jesus
We also praise God for the safe return of Pastor Scott and team who have been in Asia We look forward to hearing stories of the things that are taking place in that region and the ways in which God would have us serve
There are many things I could share, but not enough pages to note them all, but we can be faith-filled that God is on the move! Jesus loves the community that surrounds us so let us continue to love our community with the same love that Jesus has for us.
“Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing” (Ephesians 2:7-10).

Seniors’ Christmas High Tea Report
What an amazing Seniors’ Christmas High Tea we celebrated on Wednesday! All glory and thanks to you, Jesus, for pouring out your Spirit in such a powerful way as we had the joy of welcoming and serving more than 1000 seniors from our church and community
As we shared high tea together, we enjoyed an incredibly beautiful program of music and song, we relived the Christmas story, we heard about the Good News of Jesus, the Light of the World, and finished our time together with some beautiful and enthusiastic carol singing Many guests took Bibles home and there were many stories shared about how God touched people’s hearts. It’s when we experience moments like this that it’s such a joy to be a part of this Bridgey community – to see all the parts of the body working so powerfully together to bless others.
So - A Massive thank you Church!
Thank you to Narelle and the musicians, singers and actors, to Ross and others on the tech team, to Jenny and her amazing kitchen team, to all who baked items of food or donated towards the purchase of food, to our first-aid team, to those who helped with set-up and packing up, to those who welcomed, helped and served guests, to those who made the gifts for our guests, to Judy and Nick who shared their testimony, to all those who invited people, and to all of you who lifted the event up in prayer
But, of course, our greatest thanks must indeed go to our faithful Heavenly Father. It is he alone who can draw an event like the Seniors’ High Tea together and pour out his love on so many people. What a privilege to serve him!
It is our prayer that Jesus’ name will continue to be lifted high at all of the events throughout this Christmas season. The Inspire Team

Bridgecare Urgent Request
Through our Family Coach Program, we are working with a Christian Sudanese family who have adopted their nephews and nieces as they were orphaned by the war in Sudan. They now have 10 people living in their home and are looking desperately for accommodation for the two older children who are now adults, have part-time jobs and receive support from the Government, so they can pay rent. We have had no success in finding somewhere suitable for this family. We are reaching out to our Church family to help us find accommodation around Murrumba Downs where their family lives. If you can help please contact Pastor Jodi or the church office on 3263 1950. Please continue to pray for this family.

There will also be recommendations concerning two part-time pastoral calls being extended to current pastoral interns, Katie Goopy and Caleb Gough. There will also be a recommendation concerning the appointment of Jack Sweetman as a pastoral intern.
This is a very important church meeting and all members are encouraged to be present
Church Meeting Report
Sunday 16 November 2025
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you ” (Psalm 32:8).
At the recent church meeting the Church Council, brought two recommendations to the members concerning a very significant proposed transition in the leadership of our church The recommendations presented were as follows:
1. (a) That Pastor Nathan Harris be called to the new role of Director of Ministry Training and Multiplication commencing Sunday 1 February 2026, with a review after 5 years
(b) As part of Bridgeman’s contribution to Kingdom work in our state and nation, that Pastor Nathan Harris be released, up to one day a week, to engage in wider Christian ministry
2 That Pastor Andrew Carnell be called as the Senior Pastor of Bridgeman Baptist Community Church commencing 1st Feb 2026, with a review after 5 years.
The secretary of the Council, Todd Langford, presented these recommendations sharing how the Spirit had led the Council concerning this proposed transition which was initiated by Pastor Nathan Todd explained the following responsibilities of both Nathan and Andrew if these recommendations are adopted
Nathan, under the leadership of Andrew would:
- Support Andrew in his role as Senior pastor through personal encouragement and prayer, practical support and guidance, as well as provide leadership to the church and staff in Andrew’s absence.
- Provide leadership mentoring and coaching to the Bridgeman staff team
- Retain oversight of the Finance and Operations at Bridgeman as the direct report for James and Megan
- Continue to be involved in preaching and teaching at Bridgeman.
- Continue to assist with Pastoral Care and welcoming of new people at Bridgeman.
- Assist with any other ministry needs or focus areas as directed by Andrew
- Develop and lead a Ministry Training Centre with a focus on developing a pipeline of future ministry leaders to be sent out for church plants and revitalisations or to support QB churches looking for Pastors.
- Continue to provide leadership coaching for the Albion revitalisation.
- Work on practical planning and visioning towards more church partnerships, revitalisations and church plants into the future
- Serve on the QB Board and assist with the leadership of our QB movement
Pastor Andrew as Senior Pastor would:
- Oversee the development and communication of the vision for the church. Guide the culture and values for the church
- Provide spiritual leadership for the church body
- Oversee the preaching and teaching ministry
- Lead the staff team.
- Report to the Church Council as the governance body of the church.
- Oversee major church events
- Attend activities for Senior Pastors and network with other leaders
Todd concluded with these words “The role descriptions have been designed for the roles to be sustainable and manageable for Andrew and Nathan, prioritising them not just as pastors but fathers and husbands. We are excited and faith-filled for the future. We believe God is calling us into new and fruitful seasons of ministry, under God’s hand As a church leadership we do not take for granted the unity we experience and humbly submit these recommendations to the church for prayerful consideration ”
Todd’s full presentation is available by clicking here.
Pastor Nathan then shared with the members the many ways God had spoken to him about laying down the Senior Pastor Pastor’s role here at Bridgeman This had occurred over a threeyear period and had involved many discussions with Pastor Andrew and the Church Council He concluded with these words
“These are the core reasons I believe it is right for me to step down as senior pastor and pass the baton on to Andrew From the moment I was appointed into this role I have wanted to hold this position with open hand Jesus is the head of this church And we always want to be following Him. I was always aware that I was only ever meant to fill this role for as long as the Holy Spirit directed. God promised Andrea and I that he would be faithful if we followed his call and over the last 10 years we can testify to his faithfulness and the blessing he has poured out and it has been immeasurably more And we are very aware this has been his doing, and we are never to put our hands on his work
Church Meeting Report
Secondly, after working closely with Andrew as the lead ministry pastor of this church a role in which he has exercised tremendous leadership and has for a number of years humbly worked alongside me in overseeing the daily functioning of our church community, I believe this man is extremely well-equipped with the gifts and experience to lead the next season of Jesus’ church here at Bridgeman. His heart is one that fits so well the culture God has uniquely grown in us as his people over the past 33 years. I hold Andrew and Natalie in the highest regard
As a church over the last three years we have increasingly sensed the call from God to multiplication. A foundational part of this call is to focus in a greater measure on raising up and developing leaders for Christian ministry who could then be sent out for church plants, church revitalisations, to fill existing pastoral vacancies, mission work and frontline ministry calling Over the next 10 years and beyond we want to be focussed on providing practical ministry training, and mentoring We have also commenced consideration of the construction of a kids and ministry training centre to assist this vision. As we have journeyed through this prayerfully as a leadership team we can see how this transition could help enable us to fulfil this vision and the call God has given us to see multiplication and greater kingdom impact for the future and generations to come
I believe this next transition is part of God preparing the way for a greater blessing and move of His holy Spirit.
Finally, Andrea and I can trust the Lord concerning the things he has planned for our lives in the future If this is to be a role continuing to serve this church and Andrew as my senior pastor I would count it a great privilege Ultimately we trust that you as the body of Christ will over the weeks ahead affirm if this the Lord’s intention for us in this next season of our lives.”
Nathan’s full presentation is available by clicking here
Pastor Andrew then made a presentation which concluded with these paragraphs: “On March 31st this year after a weekend of retreat specifically asking the Lord to speak to us Nat and I both received scriptures that encouraged us to trust Him and to be willing to step into this process with the council
Nat was reading about the transition of leadership between Moses and Joshua and it was impressed upon her that Joshua was led in the process by the authorities God has placed over him. In our context we are so thankful and deeply respect the leadership of Nathan, Peter and the church council who have been part of this discernment process We trust them, we know them to be godly leaders who love us and love the church While we have had to hear from God ourselves we do trust and submit to the discernment of leaders around us
God spoke to me through John 4:34-38
“My food,”said Jesus,“is to do the willof him who sent me and to finish his work Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvestsa crop for eternal life,so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’is true I sent you to reap what you have not worked for Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labour ”
We sense God moving in this church in greater ways than before and a season of harvest is before us As I read these verses what encouraged me most was that God has been working long before I was at Bridgeman many godly people have ploughed, planted, watered and weeded We are just one small part of the greater story God is writing We honour those that have played roles long before us We are so glad for the church and the pastoral team God has placed around us and we are willing to play the role He has called us to in this church at this time. Ultimately it is His work and for His glory and we just have the joy of serving with one another side by side in all He is doing The passage to me was a reminder and encouragement towards humility and recognition of others
If I can just add a comment regarding Nathan’s role. Nathan has journeyed over these three years not knowing what God had for him either, but we have both been so encouraged to see God leading towards the proposed role of leadership development and multiplication Any of you that knew me when I first arrived here 11 years ago will have seen the way God has grown and developed me under Nathan’s leadership I am continually blessed by his mentoring, wisdom, love and encouragement and I am excited as I think of the future leaders that could potentially be blessed by his gifts, experience and humble heart that looks to love, serve and develop others.
I share these things regarding what we have sensed God doing and saying through this period of discernment We want you to know that we are surrendered and available to God and are at peace if this is not God’s will as the members pray and discern. If God leads another way we will be ready to serve and seek Him wherever and however He leads. Our heart is to be obedient to whatever God’s call is for us into the future and to serve His church knowing that we can trust Him for every step of the journey
Andrew’s full presentation is available by clicking here.
The meeting was opened for questions and comments One answer assured the members that there was sufficient provision in this year ’ s budget to enable this transition and another advised that other pastoral staff members had already taken up some of Andrew’s roles and there was no immediate plan to place someone in Andrew’s role. There was a stream of affirmations in the meeting concerning these new directions and God’s presence was tangibly experienced with many deeply moved as they shared Due to the significance of the changes proposed, the voting on these recommendations will not take place till the church meeting being held on 7 December This will provide time for everyone in the church to pray and seek God’s leading The meeting was closed in prayer by Pastor Peter Sweetman.
