Associate holiday celebration a success!

Associates didn’t have to travel to the North Pole this year to visit Santa’s Workshop! On Thursday, December 15, more than 600 associates enjoyed holiday music, a sweet treat and a holiday craft in the Food Court. In addition, second and third shift associates can show their badge at the Pizza Station for a free holiday cookie until 1 a.m. (December 16). If you have not used your holiday meal voucher for a free meal in the Food Court, there is still time! The holiday meal will be offered at the Home Station in the Food Court on Monday, December 19, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Wednesday, December 21, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can also use your voucher at any Food Court station (up to a $7.50 value) until December 31; not valid at Tim Horton’s or Starbucks. Thank you to everyone for helping us celebrate the season and spread holiday cheer at Riverside Methodist. Happy Holidays!

Associates give gifts of time, talent and treasure to Columbus community The holidays are a time to reflect on all of our blessings and give back to the community. Read about several Riverside Methodist associates who volunteered their time to make the holidays a little more special.

“What’s your favorite holiday tradition?”

Everyone has unique traditions that make the holidays special.

We asked a few of our Riverside Methodist executives to share some of their favorite holiday traditions.

Attending Christmas Eve service followed by our family gift exchange. My son, Trent, likes to include special surprises with his gifts, extras per se. One year he gave his younger brother a bar of soap and some toothpaste. It wasn’t fully appreciated by his brother, but pretty funny at the time. ~ Brian Jepson, president Our families are scattered across the eastern U.S., so the Block Christmas is typically spent with immediate family. A few traditions include the mandatory viewing of “Christmas Vacation” on Christmas Eve and a Christmas Day dinner that includes my dad’s amazing Salzkipfel (German crescent rolls topped with salt and caraway seeds). ~ Vicki Block, chief operating officer I’m a Christmas nut. My favorite part is the tree.

One year, we waited too long and ended up with a real “Charlie Brown” Christmas tree. This was not acceptable for my brothers and I, so we cut branches from the back of the tree, drilled holes in the front, then stuck the trimmed branches into the holes. The tree was beautiful — from the front. To me, the Christmas tree is a great symbol of precious family memories. Today, my tree is filled with ornaments — ones I made as a kid, ones collected from places we’ve visited, that symbolize special events. ~ Lisa Gossett, chief nursing officer My five siblings and their families (approximately 50 total!) all gather in Cincinnati at my mom’s house for a day of Italian food, gift exchanges and storytelling — a tradition going on 40 years! ~ Tom Harmon, MD, vice president of medical affairs

Gratitude Tree Illumination Ceremony celebrates 30th year

On November 30, Riverside Methodist and the OhioHealth Foundation celebrated the 30th annual Gratitude Tree Illumination Ceremony. In a gesture to provide hope, health and healing at Riverside Methodist, participants recognized those who impacted their lives through a light on the Gratitude Tree.

More than $72,000 was raised to support Riverside Methodist services and programs.

Honorees Marlene and Joe Berwanger and John D. Leff, MD, were celebrated at the event. For more than 30 years, the Berwangers have served Riverside Methodist and the entire OhioHealth system through their volunteer leadership and philanthropic support. The two also recognized Dr. Leff for his medical care of Marlene when she sought the help of the skilled surgeon.

The tradition of the illumination ceremony is a long-standing one at Riverside Methodist where gifts are used to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of patients who require life-saving care, regardless of ability to pay. The people spoke and the Dispatch listened!

Riverside Methodist named top pick by Columbus Dispatch readers The Columbus Dispatch ran it’s first-ever C-Bus Top Picks competition in October. Website visitors voted for their favorites in a variety of areas — from healthcare to restaurants to auto body repair shops.

Riverside Methodist was named as the “top pick” in the hospital category. OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital also made the top six, in addition to OhioHealth Orthopedic and Sports Medicine.

Thank you to all the associates who make Riverside Methodist a “top pick” in the Columbus community.

Start the New Year off right!

With the New Year right around the corner and so many tempting holiday treats, now is the perfect time to commit to a healthier you. The OhioHealthy Fitness Rewards program has recently expanded to include 13 central Ohio YMCA locations.

Riverside Methodist’s Cardiac Imaging Lab had a “Get Acquainted Tea” for our new Shared Governance team. The team participated in fun activities, de-stressed with a craft and shared stories.

OhioHealth associates who are enrolled in the OhioHealthy Medical Plan or Opt-In to Wellness can earn back up to 100 percent of their membership dues to either an OhioHealth fitness facility or a participating YMCA location.

Having conference room equipment problems?

There is a new way to get help!

When you visit 24 times per quarter (that’s just two visits per week), you will be reimbursed 100 percent of the cost. Fewer visits mean a lower reimbursement. Click on the OhioHealthy eSource page for more information and an online link to join.

Have you ever been in an OhioHealth conference room when the projector won’t work, the screen won’t pull down or there is some other technical problem you cannot fix? There is a new way to get help!

Congratulations, OhioHealth.com scavenger hunt winner!

Beginning on January 1, 2017, all clients will be directed to call the Help Desk at (614) 566.4357 or open a ticket though IS Support on eSource. Clients will receive a call back from either Visual Media Services (VMS) or IS Support, depending on the problem, to discuss the issue, how to fix it and to set up a time to have someone come look at it if necessary. This process will allow for a quicker and more efficient way to discover where the issues are, document the problems and solutions, and allows for VMS and IS Support to team up and provide clients with the best troubleshooting for all conference room issues.

New electronic data retention policy for email and personal files Beginning February 1, 2017, OhioHealth will be implementing a new retention policy for emails and personal drives to remain compliant with industry best practices.

For non-management associates and physicians, emails will be deleted two years after creation date. For example, on February 1, 2017 any emails in their mailbox created on February 1, 2015 or earlier will be deleted. This includes any emails stored in Outlook folders with the exception of the “Deleted Items” folder.

Emails in the “Deleted Items” folder will be automatically deleted after 30 days. After a non-management associate or physician leaves OhioHealth, the mailbox and any files on their personal network drive will be deleted after 90 days.

Make sure to take some time over the next few months to save any items you wish to keep in the appropriate repository. For more information, visit the Security Awareness eSource page.
