Concept Background LNG is rapidly increasing as fuel for maritime industry, and is increasing as share in the world energy mix. Estimates indicate an annual growth of 2.5% of LNG demand in the world. Regional differences will occur, but as general will the demand for LNG as fuel increase even more than the demand for LNG in general. Development of infrastructure to ensure efficient supply is one of the main hurdles for the estimated growth. The LNG-tank has several benefits including: ■
No limitations regarding filling level
■
Traditional cylindrical tank building
■
Normal building materials
■
Parallel construction with vessel
■
Complete scalability
The Brevik Technology LNG design will allow for quick build-up with low technological barriers of the infrastructure that is needed to achieve the goals of more vessels being propelled by LNG in near and distant future.

NEW GENERATION MULTI-GAS CARRIER
Brevik Multi-gas Carrier Brevik Technology has through the innovative an patented solution on how to develop a more efficient way to transport cold/cryogenic liquids, enabled ship owners, shipyards and other stakeholders to improve their competitive advantage in markets like: ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■
LNG LPG LEG PRESSURIZED CARGO (CO2) FLNG FLOATING TERMINALS BUNKER VESSELS
Our multi-gas carrier design is scalable and ultimate to “tailor make” for upgrading of existing vessels from i.e. bulker vessels to LNG-carrier or LNG-bunker vessel. Our innovative design is creating low/no technological barriers for yards or ship-owners to enter into a high barrier market and will create opportunities for existing market stakeholders to increase their competitive advantage.

Design Basis The design concept includes the supporting of an cylindrical tank in a ships hull executing traveling forces from tank to ship by securing the tank through a “detached” support. There are no stresses transferred from the tank to the vessel, and no forces transferred from the vessel to the tank because of thermal expansion/contraction. The tank is an independent IMO B tank utilizing the hull in a preferable way compared to existing independent tank solutions. The design is based on a proven cargo handling technology, and a proven IMO B insulation design All design aspects is in line with, but not limited to, the following rules: ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■

Design History Our tank support system is based on, and developed from existing vessels in operations. Our tanks and supports have gone through extensive analysis and code/rule-checks. Our Engineering Partner, VARD Engineering Brevik AS is executing all design and engineering work in relation to the development of the design. The tanks has gained an Approval in principle (AiP) delivered by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). There are now existing several sizes and usage areas of finalized design. The include: ■ 175.000 m3 ■ 65.000 m3 ■ 30.000 m3 ■ 6.500 m3 ■ 35.000 m3 ■ 180.000 FLNG ■ 165.000 FPSO Solutions for cargo handling and insulation are done in cooperation with world leading suppliers of such technology. All solutions are type approved and proven through decades of operation.

Technical Benefits The low technological barrier design allows for several yards, owners and other stakeholders to enter into LNG/ LPG/LEG-market with the Brevik Technology design concept. The flexibility and applicability of the design allows for a wider use of the vessel and allows for considerably lower investment expenses compared to existing solutions. The FAQ-table below gives an sum-up of some of the clear Benefits with using Brevik Technology design
Brevik Cylindrical Tanks How competitive is the production cost?
Proven lower production cost, compared to all existing, available, proven solutions
Is there an potential for damage due to sloshing?
There is low/no issues with sloshing in tanks because of the cylindrical shape. Computer analysis and physical tests has been carried out to prove this.
Is there a potential for use as FPSO?
Yes. The design is very attractive due to the layout and flat process/main deck.
Is there in this design independent tank/ship construction?
Tanks and ship are independent constructed and supported
How about the insulation complexity?
Is there a need for weather protection above main deck?
How is the utilization of hull volume?
How about the required workmen’s skills? Is the design based on conventional tanker hull?
How about cargo handling?
The insulation is a well known and proven technology. The insulation system is the same as on many other independent tank solutions. No The utilization of the hull is not the best of all designs, but studies have shoved that it is very attractive as an independent tank design Any shipbuilding yard should be well known with the art of building these tanks and vessel. Yes The cargo handling system is completely conventional and cooperation with one system maker secures a proven world leading cargo handling system
