For Bennett from Grammy

Rising sun said the day Was brand new Young Bennett was hungry

And the zoo animals were too

Breakfast was served So Bennet observed. The elephants lumbered in Big ears a’flapping

Grammy thought it was cute

So she started clapping

Giraffe ducked in under the door

Legs so long like he didn’t belong

So many inches

So far from his feet

No wonder no problem

Ever reaching the street

leopard arrived In spotted disguise

Many meats that were treats

A feast at the least!

Never, no never Not ever to bore In strutted ostrich Sporting feathers and more

Beaver swam from the pond

Searching for wood

Found nothing he could Take home to the dam

To finish his plan

In splashed hippopotamus

Bashing and thrashing

Almost as big as a very big bus

Why would a hippo

Make such a large fuss?

Parrot flew through In quite a big hurry

Looked at the diners And left in a flurry

Panda wandered in Sniffing for bamboo

Maybe it was here Like the rest of the zoo

The

zebras paraded past In spectacular stripe

Bennett could only assume Must be horses of course In fancy costume

Squirrel scampered through Just a few nuts in view

Not nearly enough Packed his big cheeks

And left in a huff

Kangaroo bounced by Little baby on board

Like a flash by Bennett And gone in a minute

lemurs were looking And Bennett was too Grammy was doing

What all grammys do —

That something so special

About loving you

As the sun left the day

Bennett took Grammy’s hand Sad to exit, but he knew the way To get Grammy back

If he had a say

(And that was one thing about Bennett… He always had a say!)
