MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDERS

We would like to say a personal thank you for your interest in the Bremont collection, developed to meet the expectations of those who demand more from a mechanical watch. Our aim at Bremont was to always make beautifully crafted watches of exceptional quality and value. Inspired by a love of flying historic aircraft, watches and all things mechanical, our timepieces had to be tested beyond the normal call of duty - and not just in the workshop. Immensely precise, reliable and durable, Bremont watches are made in limited numbers and we’re proud that they are hand-built in the UK by a wonderful team of watchmakers and engineers. Each watch is designed to appeal to those who share our passion for innovation and the mastery behind a beautiful mechanical wristwatch. We hope you enjoy the same level of satisfaction wearing your Bremont watch as we do in creating it.

THE BEGINNINGS

Life for the English brothers has always been about a love of all things mechanical. When they weren’t flying vintage aircraft, Nick and Giles had spent most of their childhood making things in their gifted father’s workshop. They made models together, restored cars and they even helped him build an aircraft they still fly to this day. Euan, their father, was also passionate about mechanical timepieces. He would often bring home a clock from an auction for the brothers to try and bring back to life. This passion lives on in the wonderful engineering found in a Bremont timepiece.

Their lives changed significantly one clear day in March 1995. Nick was practising for an air display with their father Euan, but the 1942 WWII Harvard aircraft they were flying was involved in an accident. Giles, waiting to take off for the next sortie, was told that his father had been killed and his brother had broken over 30 bones and probably wouldn’t make it.

Six months later, however, Nick was back in the air and being flown by Giles. But things would never be the same again. Life was too short to waste. The two brothers decided to pursue what they enjoyed most: a life crafting beautifully engineered mechanical timepieces.

The Bremont Story

PASSION FOR AVIATION

At Bremont we are passionate about aviation. We take inspiration from all aspects of its magnificent heritage. Our pilots’ watches are lovingly engineered to be functional with finesse, whether in the hangar or heading for the clouds.

THE NAME BREMONT

In the late 1990s, Nick and Giles were flying across France in their 1930s biplane when the weather started to close in. A rough-running engine forced them to make an emergency landing. Keen to avoid the French authorities, the brothers were more than happy to accept the gracious help of the farmer whose field they had landed in. They stayed in his home, the aircraft took cover in the barn. It transpired their host had been just as keen on aviation as the brothers, as well as being a gifted engineer. Half-restored wall clocks lay everywhere, together with numerous engine parts. The farmer even still wore his own father’s wristwatch. It was a delightful evening. The brothers promised that his warm hospitality would never be forgotten. His name? Antoine Bremont.

A few years later, after running a business restoring and maintaining historic aircraft, the brothers were able to follow their dream. They set up a small workshop in BielBienne, Switzerland. Five years later, after the most stringent testing programmes, the first Bremont watches were released.

Today, their love of mechanical devices, engineering excellence, aviation and adventure continues to inspire the company. A strong desire to reinvigorate British watchmaking means that all Bremont watches are manufactured in the UK.

THE SUPERMARINE S.6B

The English brothers’ passion for aviation and British engineering excellence is epitomised by the Supermarine S.6B, a British racing seaplane developed by RJ Mitchell to take place in the Schneider Trophy Competition of 1931. The pioneering S.6B won the race with a speed of 340.08 mph and its design inspired the iconic Supermarine Spitfire.

British Engineering

A BRITISH WATCH COMPANY

It may surprise you to know that watchmaking is a very British trade. Every major escapement design and around three quarters of related innovations came from these shores. Much is owed to Thomas Tompion (1639-1713), the ‘Father of English Clock-Making’ and the remarkable Thomas Mudge (1715-1794), who invented the lever escapement still used in most watches today. John Harrison (1693-1776), meanwhile, solved the problem of accurately telling the time at sea and by doing so, in calculating longitude as well. They were followed by other illustrious names including John Arnold and more recently, George Daniels.

Bremont is determined to be at the heart of a British revival in watchmaking. Our goal has always been to bring back as much of the process to the UK as possible and our watches are designed, manufactured and assembled in England. That includes most of the bespoke parts used in our limited editions, as well as our hand-made leather packaging.

We are also proud to work in partnership with some established manufacturing greats like the aviation pioneers Martin-Baker, responsible for supplying 70% of the world’s Air Forces with fighter ejection seat technology and the British car manufacturer, Jaguar.

BREMONT PILLARS Aviation and Military

The love and passion for aviation has coursed through the founders’ veins from very early in their childhoods. There has always been a very close association between time and aviation since the first brave adventurers took to the skies over 100 years ago. The love of flying and its uncompromising demands are inherent in every Bremont watch. Hand-in-hand with Bremont’s love of aviation is the company’s appreciation of the military. Bremont has worked closely with the military for a number of years.

OFFICIAL TIMING PARTNER FOR ROLLS-ROYCE’S GROUNDBREAKING WORLD RECORD

Flight has inspired and benefited us all. The question today is how aviation meets the demands of a growing, more connected society with sustainable, net zero carbon power. Bremont teamed up with Rolls-Royce to become the Official Timing Partner for its all-electric speed record attempt. A dedicated team was implemented to develop the plane, aptly called the ‘Spirit of Innovation’ with the aim of it becoming the fastest zero-emissions aircraft in history. Rolls-Royce surpassed the previous record of 213mph by reaching speeds over 340mph achieving a new world record.

THE ENGINE ROOM

British design & manufacture

Bremont is making considerable investment in its UK watchmaking and manufacturing. Tens of thousands of parts are being made to extremely small tolerances each year at our new dedicated Manufacturing & Technology Centre ‘The Wing’ in Henley-on-Thames. Additionally, watch cases and movement parts manufacture are all taking place in-house. This is part of a long staged investment programme and has seen Bremont invest in some state-of-the-art CNC mill-turning, metal cutting and finishing machinery, some of which are the first of their kind in the UK. This investment will enable Bremont to manufacture significant quantities of beautifully engineered and finished watch parts on British shores. As a company, our in-house training and apprenticeship schemes have led to a whole new generation of watchmakers and watch technicians on British soil. As a keen partner and supporter of the British School of Watchmaking, Bremont is passionate about bringing watchmaking back to the UK where there was once an illustrious history.

We love showing visitors around ‘The Wing’ so please contact us or your local Bremont retailer to arrange a tour.

Work being carried out in the ‘Engine Room’ using machinery which is the first of its kind in this country. Bremont owns its own ultra precise mill turn machining facility ensuring highly accurate and efficient production of case and movement parts. This case and part finishing centre allows a choice of finishes to micron accuracy and precision.

BREMONT TECHNOLOGY

The Mechanical Watch

Bremont is built on precise timekeeping. Only the highest quality components are used in our movements. Every core watch bearing the Bremont name is chronometer-tested, then further subjected to a rigorous quality control programme. The results are all documented in detailed records securely stored at our headquarters.

Every watch in our core collection is accompanied by a performance certificate which confirms that the mechanical movement has passed each of the rigorous precision tests necessary for the ISO 3159 designation.

In 2021 Bremont released its own ENG300 movement series marking a significant milestone for both the brand and British watchmaking as a whole. A new manufacturing line for machining base components and T0 assembly has been realised at the Bremont Manufacturing & Technology Centre. Bremont has made considerable investment into new machinery, staff and training and the firm’s inhouse technical team has re-engineered the base calibre, including making a number of design improvements, in order to build a proprietary movement to the brand’s unique specification. The ENG300 signals the first time in 50 years that mechanical movements have been built at scale on British shores.

MOVEMENT FINISHING

Every Bremont movement is finished and decorated to the highest possible specification. The finish of a movement is not just decorative – it affects the running and durability of a mechanical timepiece. The Bremont manufactured ENG300 pictured here at the heart of the Bremont Supernova.

Optimum Legibility

BREMONT TECHNOLOGY

SAPPHIRE & SUPER-LUMINOVA®

Our convex sapphire crystals come with a Mohs hardness rating of 9. That’s the equivalent to 2000Hv on the Vickers’ scale. Untreated crystals can allow light to reflect back, significantly affecting the legibility of the dial. So anti-reflective coatings are vapour-deposited to both sides of the glass in a vacuum environment, reducing reflections to less than 0.5% for optimum legibility. Under the crystal, Bremont carefully applies as many as 15 to 20 coats of Super-LumiNova® paint to a range of dials in our collection; it ensures optimal visibility in the poorest of lighting conditions.

Watches are the most precise mechanical devices on the planet. Bremont aims to keep it that way. Our watches are subjected to rigorous testing procedures. For example, ISO 3159 certifications take 15 days to complete over several different temperature ranges and watch positions. The average daily variation rate must be between -4 and +6 seconds. With 86,400 seconds in a single day, it means every single Bremont watch is 99.998% accurate.

Our ethos is brought to life in the design, specification and quality of the materials we insist upon. For example, we only use the finest Glucydur balance wheels as opposed to the ‘elaborate’ nickel equivalent found in many high-end luxury watches. Nine layers of anti-reflective treatment are applied to both sides of the sapphire crystals and B-EBE2000 hardening technology makes Bremont watch cases an average of seven times harder and more scratch-resistant than competitors’. The result is a distinctive range of elegant watches. This uncompromising quality is reflected in the 3-year guarantee and an extended 5-year guarantee for Bremont’s ENG300 movement series upon watch registration.

THE TIME IT TAKES | 33

Bremont’s Trip-Tick® case construction

TRIPBREMONT TECHNOLOGY 1

All Bremont watch cases use Bremont Trip-Tick® construction consisting of three parts (with the exception of The Armed Forces Collection):

The top bezel

The central body section

TICK 2 3

The case back

The case construction offers flexibility in both durability and design and allows us to manufacture cases from a variety of materials.

Most Bremont stainless steel watches are treated for hardness with B-EBE2000 technology. During this special stage in the case production the metal is heattreated and diffused with carbon, then bombarded with electrons. The process dramatically increases the hardness and scratch resistance of the stainless steel.

On the Vickers’ scale of hardness, for example, B-EBE2000 produces a watch case with a value of 2000Hv - approximately seven times that of the normal stainless steel used for watch cases.

BREMONT TECHNOLOGY

Bremont Roto-Click®

Many Bremont watches have been designed from a clean sheet of paper. New bezel technology designed and built by Bremont is now integrated into a number of models such as the MB. The bezel rotates while gliding on a series of four ball bearings. These bearings knit into the gearing of the bezel to produce a most satisfying click for every minute rotated.

2

Bremont Anti-Shock

Designed by Bremont initially for the MB range of watches, our unique rubberised movement mount encloses the inner workings. A flexible ring then connects the mount to the outer case, absorbing shocks and allowing the inner case and movement to float.

Anti-Magnetic Faraday Cage

A number of Bremont models are designed to withstand the detrimental effects of magnetism on a watch’s movement.

With a limited amount of space available, this is achieved by encasing the movement in a soft-iron Faraday cage. Any potentially harmful magnetic fields are then routed around the movement.

features apply to some models only.

H1 TIMING STANDARD

Our watches all undergo a stringent testing programme to meet the highest standards before they are released with a 3-year warranty. Watches marked with the ‘H1’ designation come with a 5-year warranty upon registration.

BREMONT TESTING

From 2022 onwards the ENG300 movement series will be certified to a chronometer standard in-house using the new Bremont H1 Timing Standard, directly comparable to the ISO3159:2009 Chronometer test.

Additionally, Bremont will be testing the ENG300 series fully complete with the rotor in place, in the same facility where the watches are built. Testing the movement with the final and finished rotor attached simply reduces any potential for variance in performance associated with detaching and reattaching the rotor post-test. The Bremont H1 Timing Standard not only nods to Bremont’s home in Henley-on-Thames but is also named in homage to Harrison’s first ‘H1’ marine timekeeper that famously sought to solve the problem of measuring longitude out at sea. Historically one of the most prominent observatories for watch testing was the Kew Observatory in England; reinvigorating a British chronometer test is something Bremont has long since been building up to.

BREMONT TESTING

Martin-Baker is a British aviation company responsible for supplying 70% of the world’s Air Forces with fighter ejection seat technology. They first approached Bremont to create the definitive aviation watch in 2007. More than simply putting a logo on an existing model, the Bremont MB range had to withstand the same rigorous testing programme as the ejection seats themselves.

The tests, some of which are shown on the left, included shock, salt-fog, temperature, pressure, vibration and live ejections to name but a few. The end product, the Bremont MB, has since become an icon in the world of military and civilian aviation, a watch that has truly been ‘Tested Beyond Endurance’.

BREMONT TESTING

Our intention from the outset was always to design and manufacture a mechanical watch in the UK. The watch would be designed around the principles of engineering and not fashion. It would look as visually arresting in decades to come as on the day it left the workshop and it would be equally at home in the boardroom as above the clouds or below the sea. Bremont watches have been Tested Beyond Endurance by explorers, adventurers, extreme divers and the military. Now, it’s your turn.

What makes the ultimate pilots’ watch? Inspired by their own love of flying, Bremont Co-founders Nick and Giles English set out to answer this question. The story of pilots and their wristwatches began when the first aviators took flight over a century ago. The collection takes inspiration

all aspects of its magnificent heritage and are lovingly

be functional with finesse, whether in the

clouds.

FURY

Aviation has been at the heart of the Bremont brand since its inception with both brand founders having grown up in and around aviation as well as being pilots themselves. In line with this the Fury has been designed as a classic three hand pilot’s watch. The name nods to some of the world’s most renowned aircraft from the 1930s Hawker Fury to the 1940s WW2 Hawker Sea Fury, tying beautifully to the brand’s aviation heritage and aviation inspired collections.

ALT1-B

The bespoke B-2 ‘Stealth Bomber’ timepiece, pictured here in front of the B-2 aircraft, inspired the design of the ALT1-B.

The MBI (right) is only available to those individuals who have ejected using an MB ejection seat and can be identified quickly by its red aluminium barrel.

THE BREMONT MBI
Tested Beyond Endurance

MB RANGE

The robust nature of the MB range is not only down to the testing, but the over-engineered design of the watch. Both the movement and mechanism of the Bremont MartinBaker have been designed to ‘float’ in a controlled manner within the Bremont patented Trip-Tick® case by attaching the inner case to it via a flexible ring. In doing so, shocks to the movement are minimised and shock energy absorbed.

As well as this, the inner case that encloses the movement of the Bremont Martin-Baker has the function of an antimagnetic shield. This inner case is made from soft iron and created to work as a ‘faraday cage’ making the Bremont Martin-Baker watch immune to extreme magnetic fields, and a timepiece that has truly been ‘Tested Beyond Endurance’.

THE COLLECTION | 81

MBII

It’s over 10 years since the first Bremont Martin-Baker (MB) watch was released; a design born of the challenge to create a unique piece for pilots that had ejected using Martin-Baker ejection seats.

It has become something of an icon in the worlds of civilian and military aviation.

MB SAVANNA

The MB Savanna is a highly-engineered desert inspired model designed with a 43mm Grade 5 Titanium case with a protective, tactical coating, and a sand-coloured metal dial and rubber strap. It has twin knurled crowns for setting the time and the inner rotating bezel, a movement mount that protects the movement from extreme shocks and is powered by the modified calibre BE-36AE automatic chronometer. The watch had to withstand the same rigorous testing programme as the ejection seats themselves including Live Ejection Testing, MFOS Crashworthy Testing, Extreme Temperature Endurance, Vibration Testing, Altitude Testing and Aircraft Carrier Deck Testing.

BUILD YOUR OWN MBII ONLINE

Bremont’s online configurator uniquely enables customers to design their own MB. The online system has preloaded dial, case, case back, barrel and strap choices to choose from for the MBII. The barrel colour options include blue, orange, yellow, green and anthracite as well as military inspired purple, bronze, jet and titanium. The movement design can be seen through a special open case back version which is a first in the MB collection. There are over 100 different possible designs in terms of case and dial, and over 1000 factoring in the different straps.

The Bremont MB remains the most popular choice of model on which Bremont’s custom-made military watches are based. Aside from the obvious military connection with Martin-Baker, the option of different barrel colour possibilities in the MB range has proved particularly popular across numerous projects to date.

AN ICONIC CASE DESIGN

There are several knurled aluminium barrel colours to choose from, including purple, bronze and jet versions. These additional colourways have been inspired by some of the exclusive military and special projects watches that Bremont has worked on for Officers of Royalty Protection, Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor Pilots and the RAF’s 100 Squadron to name a few.

MBIII

When the MBII was introduced back in 2008, its unique case design together with its distinct coloured barrel and groundbreaking technical features made it an instant favourite among aviators in the military and civilian world alike. The MBIII takes this one step further with the introduction of a GMT hand and the ability to tell the time in two time-zones simultaneously.

U-2

Such is the clarity and durability of the U-2, that it has become a popular model on which many of our bespoke military projects have been based. A watch that has been ruthlessly engineered to be fit for purpose, however extreme that purpose may be.

U-2 RANGE

The Bremont U-2 was designed exclusively for, and tested extensively by, the elite Spy Plane Squadron based at Beale, California. These incredible pilots regularly take their iconic aircraft up to 80,000 feet on reconnaissance missions that often last over 12 hours. The U-2 has been put through its paces at -50°c in the laboratory and out on missions.

Bremont reveals a dark side

U-2/51-JET

The U-2/51-JET takes fresh design cues from a military project commissioned by the RAF’s 100 Squadron to celebrate their centenary and complement their Hawk T1 Jet aircraft. The 100 Squadron was the first squadron formed for night bombing back in 1917 and its stealthy appearance led to the introduction of a new case and middle barrel colour for this watch, aptly named ‘Jet’. The timepiece incorporates a striking combination of the brand’s trademark vintage ‘51’ lume, originally found on the Limited Edition P-51, together with heat treated steel blued hands.

AIRCO

The AIRCO models have been named after the ‘Aircraft Manufacturing Company Limited’, one of the first British military aircraft manufacturers. TIME CAPSULE

Although all watches in the Bremont collection are manufactured in limited numbers, occasionally we embark on a very special project to produce something that is uniquely different and extremely limited in volume, typically due to the rarity of the materials we are working with. Whether it is the preservation of heritage or a subject that means a great deal to us, the key defining factor is our passion.

Bremont’s first project of this sort was released in 2008, called the EP120, a special watch engineered using material from one of the most famous and iconic Spitfires flying, this wonderful plane was also owned by a friend of Nick and Giles’ father. The latest of these historic Limited editions, the Longitude, pays tribute to Great Britain’s role in clock and watchmaking, and contribution to time, astronomy and navigation. Original brass from the historic Flamsteed Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, London, can be seen forming a ring in the back of the Longitude timepiece.
