Time began for Bremont in 2002, when we embarked on a journey to make beautifully crafted watches of exceptional quality. The new Bremont H-4 Hercules Limited Edition celebrates and contains parts of the H-4 Hercules ‘Spruce Goose’ which was invented and flown only once by movie maker and aviation enthusiast, Howard Hughes. The timepiece pays tribute to the largest flying boat ever built, and at the time in 1947, was the largest aircraft in the world. Bremont first announced the new release at its London launch event at the V&A Museum on the 9th October in true 1940s Hollywood style. Friend of the brand and British Television presenter, Ben Shephard, held proceedings and revealed the new timepiece to the audience. Following a successful launch in London, the new timepieces were showcased to audiences in New York, Houston, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. The United States launches held particular significance to the story of Howard Hughes and the ‘Spruce Goose’. Hollywood is where Hughes first gained fame as a film producer in the late 1920s and Houston was where he passed away.

At a time of austerity, one American defied convention to build the largest aircraft in the world. The Bremont H-4 Hercules Limited Edition chronometer salutes this iconic flying boat of the 1940s. Famously known as the ‘Spruce Goose’, the vast silver ship is as legendary as its inventor Howard Hughes. Bremont Co-Founder Nick English says, “Giles and I have been fascinated by the story of the H-4 Hercules since childhood. The sheer ambition of building an aircraft on that scale using wood is remarkable. The Hercules is a true engineering triumph that pushed the boundaries of aeronautical design. It paved the way for the large aircraft we use today, and did it with style, panache and just a dash of Hollywood.” The H-4 Hercules and, to a degree, Howard Hughes’ genius was defined by one minute. One minute of flight on 2nd November 1947. In that time Howard Hughes’ vision for the greatest aircraft ever built was vindicated. It’s fitting therefore that the aircraft is being commemorated by a timepiece of this stature. Limited to just 300 stainless steel, 75 rose gold and 75 platinum pieces, the Bremont H-4 Hercules is a sublime fusion of micro-engineering, watch design and aviation history. The 25 jewel Bremont BWC/02 movement is based on the original proprietary automatic BWC/01 calibre built in partnership with movement house, La Joux-Perret, and is housed in a beautifully finished 43mm case. The new slate grey coloured BWC/02 movement has GMT functionality, along with hours, minutes, a smaller non-hacking seconds hand at 9 o’clock and the date at 6 o’clock. Although the name ‘Spruce Goose’ is world famous, Howard Hughes disliked this nickname bestowed on his aircraft by the press. He felt it an insult to his talented engineers. It was also incorrect, as the Hercules was made of birch. Remarkably, the movement of the Bremont H-4 Hercules has an automatic winding rotor incorporating some original birchwood veneer that took to the air on that famous flight in 1947. The tungsten rotor features this veneer from Howard Hughes’ H-4 Hercules, as four propeller blades. The wood (which was made available only through essential preservation work on the H-4) was carefully shipped to the UK from the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville Oregon, USA, where it was painstakingly cut to size by the renowned bespoke furniture makers Silverlining. Furthermore, original aileron fabric from the aircraft’s control surfaces can be found sewn into the English-made bridle leather watch packaging.

Four years after Hughes’ death in 1976, rumours circulated that the airplane was going to be disassembled so that pieces could be given to museums around the country. There were public protests, and the United States House of Representatives voted to declare the ‘Spruce Goose’ a national treasure. The aircraft is not only an engineering feat of huge magnitude, it’s also an aesthetically beautiful machine. Bremont Co-Founder Giles English comments, “Hughes’ obsession with detail and striving for perfection is evident everywhere in this aircraft. The H-4 wasn’t so much built as crafted, its flawless silver surface, devoid of rivets and bumps synonymous

with 1940’s aviation, shows that this aircraft was a masterpiece of design and manufacture. The Hughes H-4 is arguably one of the most important aircraft ever to have flown, in terms of its innovations in construction and control systems - a huge contribution to aviation development and history. Up until 2019 it was the largest aircraft in terms of wingspan ever to have flown. It is still the biggest flying boat ever to fly and will likely remain so forever. It proved such an inspiration that we felt compelled to design a watch based on its iconic design with a percentage of proceeds also going to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum for preserving the aircraft.”

BREMONT RELEASES ‘THE 1947 COLLECTION’ A UNIQUE COLLABORATION WITH RONNIE WOOD

Critically acclaimed artist, producer, song writer, and esteemed Rolling Stones guitarist, Ronnie Wood, unveils a very limited series of unique and individual watches in collaboration with luxury British watch company, Bremont. Ronnie Wood has individually hand painted 47 limited edition watch dials whilst being on tour with the Rolling Stones, a nod to the year he was born, 1947. Each watch in the collection is a one-of-a-kind piece, showcasing original art from Ronnie himself, and housing a rather special Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier movement with moon phase complication. The exquisitely hand-finished mechanism has been housed in a beautifully designed and engineered 42mm, 18 carat white gold case using Bremont’s signature Trip-Tick® three-piece format. Ronnie comments, “Having spent so much time focusing on the dial designs, I’m really looking forward to seeing a completed watch. The white gold case will look fantastic with the guitar/’rock on’ type artwork and turning the watch over shows the wonderful mechanism with ‘I feel like painting’ around the edge and my signature on the rotor. I look at some of the dials and it brings back memories of having painted them on tour in places like Chicago, Seattle, or Philadelphia. In different places I’d get a little time to spend doing some art in between looking after those little twins and the music of course.” Ronnie has established himself as an artist and his work is much sought after by collectors. Throughout the years, the artist and the musician have been inseparable. As his musical career progressed, Ronnie continued his passion for painting and drawing; his subjects ranging from band members and musicians he admired, knew and sometimes played with, to family and close friends – and of course, the self-portrait. It is as natural to find him with a pencil as with a guitar, drawing portraits of contemporaries and finding inspiration from his musical influences.

Ronnie continues, “I originally got into art from my two older brothers who I used to look up to. I had Ted who was 8 years older than me and Art who was 10 years older than me. They were both artists and they were both musicians, if they painted, I would paint and if they played, I would play. What’s quite nice is that the dials feel like old friends and together they’re all so different. They look like they’ve been done from all over the world, some with more Chinese and African influences as well as American through to the British countryside. They all have an ‘I feel like painting’ connection or a guitar that’s bent to fit into the dial shape, a horse, a ‘rock on’ or ‘rock hard’ or ‘time rocks on’ kind of message to the wearer so when he looks at the time, he thinks “I better keep rocking”. Painting these dials has been a challenge and I’ve always loved a challenge. I did my first venture with Bremont and the ship’s clock about 8 years ago and when Nick and Giles came along to ask me to do some small wristwatch faces, I thought how fantastic, what a challenge. The thing I found initially alluring about Bremont was having seen them incorporate original spitfire metal into some of their watches, which got me on the hook. The watches are very high quality and artistic so it’s easy for me to be involved.” This inimitable collaboration between Ronnie Wood and Bremont brings art and watchmaking together in a truly British interpretation. NIMS SETS NEW WORLD-RECORD: BREMONT PROJECT POSSIBLE ALL 14 ‘DEATH ZONE’ MOUNTAINS SUMMITED IN JUST 6 MONTHS In just 6 months and 6 days, Nirmal “Nims” Purja MBE has completed his challenge to summit Earth’s 14 tallest mountains, smashing the previous record of almost eight years and taking his place in mountaineering history. Earth’s 14 tallest mountains, all higher than 8,000m, enter the ‘death zone’ which is so-called because human life cannot exist there. This did not deter Nims, who joins a list of just 40 climbers to have completed what could be considered the ultimate mountaineering goal. “I believed in this project and I made sure to surround myself with people who believed in it too. This was never just about me, which is the reason I’ve been able to overcome some huge obstacles on this journey. By achieving this goal I knew I could inspire people from all generations, across the world. I hope to have shown that anything is possible when you set your mind to it,” added Nims. Nims began Bremont Project Possible when he reached the top of Annapurna on 23rd April this year and has accomplished this extreme feat of mountaineering with a rotating support team made up of exclusively Nepalese climbers. The clock stopped on Nims’ attempt as he reached the summit of Shishapangma on 29th October at 8:58 hrs local time (00:58 GMT) beating the world record by 7 years 5 months and 8 days. On 22nd May, Nims reached the summit of Mount Everest along with 320 other mountaineers. It was on this climb that he took the photo seen around the world of a ‘traffic jam’ to reach the summit, bringing global attention to the mountain’s dangerous overcrowding. As well as smashing his overall goal of scaling all 14 of the world’s 8,000m peaks in under 7 months, Nims has achieved a further six world records in the process:

Former soldier, and extreme adventurer, Jordan Wylie (35) from Blackpool, UK has become the first person in history to successfully row solo and unsupported across what is considered the most dangerous body of water on the planet, and certainly one of the most geopolitically contested too. Jordan, who is also one of the stars of Channel 4’s Hunted and Celebrity Hunted which is due back on our screens for a new series this month, rowed the Bab El Mandeb Straits, a strategic waterway passage located between Djibouti on the Horn of Africa and Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula. Translated in to Arabic, Bab El Mandeb means (Gate of Tears) which is very apt for an area that is notorious for piracy, terrorism, the smuggling of people, arms and narcotics and also happens to be one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. Having never rowed before this year, he has trained extensively for the last 12 months with some of the greatest names in rowing including double Olympic champion, and fellow Bremont Ambassador, Alex Gregory MBE with a new specially designed boat built by Rannoch Adventure in Essex, UK. Jordan called his boat “A Million Dreams”. Mr Wylie, who is also the UK national ambassador for Army Cadets is no stranger to danger having served in the British military for over 10 years including service in Iraq and Northern Ireland as a frontline soldier. Jordan also ran through three of the world’s most dangerous countries last year which saw him take on long distance endurance challenges in Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan which has also been documented in his new book, Running For My Life due for release on 7th November 2019. To date the extreme adventurer has raised over one million pounds in the last decade for charitable and philanthropic causes through high profile adventures in some of the world’s most hostile and volatile regions. Described by Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE as a “determined fearless adventurer and an inspiring man” there is no stopping this man as he aims to raise awareness of the plight of children affected by war and conflict around the world and uses education to inspire hope and change lives through a charity he co-founded called “Frontline Children”. Jordan commented from the Horn of Africa: “To complete a world first is of course very special and an incredible achievement for me personally, it was the toughest thing I’ve ever done. However, what is more important, is that the world takes notice of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the sheer number of casualties and losses that are being suffered by children daily, these are the complete innocent victims of this conflict and the world needs to do more to protect them”.

THE LAST OVERLAND In 2019, one of the 20th century’s most iconic and challenging road journeys will be recreated. The Oxford & Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition The First Overland - made history in 1955 by being the first to drive from London to Singapore. TESTED BEYOND ENDURANCE

Bremont is honoured to produce an exclusive military edition timepiece for the world famous Canadian Snowbirds. Officially known as 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, the Snowbirds are the military flight demonstration team of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The team is based at 15 Wing Moose Jaw near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The Snowbirds' official purpose is to "demonstrate the skill, professionalism, and teamwork of Canadian Forces personnel". MWII FLYING TIGER 8 years on from the first Bremont x MW Michael Wong collaboration, 2019 sees the release of the MWII Flying Tiger. Designed in collaboration with Michael, the renowned actor and aviator, the Bremont MWII Flying Tiger pays tribute to the first American Volunteer Group (AVG) of the Chinese Air Force in 1941-1942, nicknamed the Flying Tigers. Based on the design of the U-2 range which was originally developed for and inspired by a select number of elite military squadrons, the new timepiece has significant aviation pedigree. The MWII Flying Tiger incorporates the brand’s trademark vintage ‘51’ lume, originally found on the Limited Edition P-51, together with heat treated steel blued hands. The AVG Flying Tigers was composed of pilots from the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC), Navy (USN), and Marine Corps (USMC), recruited under President Franklin Roosevelt’s authority before Pearl Harbour. The aircraft were to fly with Chinese colours but be under American control. The group consisted of three fighter squadrons of around 30 aircraft each. The Flying Tigers trained in Burma before the American entry into World War II to defend China against Japanese forces. The group of volunteers were officially members of the Chinese Air Force. While it accepted some civilian volunteers for its headquarters and ground crew, the AVG recruited most of its staff from the U.S. military. The group demonstrated innovative tactical victories when the news in the U.S. was filled with little more than stories of defeat at the hands of the Japanese forces and achieved such notable success during the lowest period of the war for both the U.S. and the Allied Forces as to give hope to America that it might eventually defeat

Japan. AVG pilots earned official credit and received combat bonuses for destroying 296 enemy aircraft, while losing only 14 pilots in combat. On 4 July 1942 the AVG was disbanded and replaced by the 23rd Fighter Group of the United States Army Air Forces, which was later absorbed into the U.S. Fourteenth Air Force with General Chennault as commander.

BREMONT SHOWCASES AT TAILHOOK For the eighth consecutive year, the Bremont Military team attended the United States Navy Tailhook Association Reunion in Reno, Nevada and showcased their exclusive military edition watches to aviators in the Navy and Marines. This year was extra special as the Navy’s TopGun school celebrated their 50 year anniversary. Bremont participated in the celebration by providing a Bremont Tailhook Association watch as a prize for one lucky attendee. Our very own Catherine and Amelia randomly selected the winner from a large pool of entries. The winning naval aviator, call sign “Swacket”, is now the owner of a very exclusive Bremont MBIII. Its durable build along with its elegant aesthetic make it a watch that conforms with the key principles set out by Co-Founders Nick and Giles English back in 2002; a watch that would work as effectively at the top of Mount Everest as it would in the board room. The ALT1-C remains true to each of the technical principles behind any revered automatic timepiece and brings together the art of watch making with the very best of technical innovation, precision and durability. Mechanically, the Bremont ALT1-C features the ever reliable BE-50AE automatic chronometer movement which has a 42-hour power reserve. This is housed in the unique Bremont Trip-Tick® hardened stainless steel case system consisting of a top bezel, middle case barrel and exhibition case back. Importantly, Bremont is proud to manufacture the key components of this case design right here at its facilities in the UK. Once the cases have been precisely engineered to extreme tolerances they are then put through the Bremont B-EBE hardening treatment which makes the case an average of seven times harder and more scratchresistant than other watch brands. The sapphire crystal comes with a Mohs hardness rating of 9, that’s also the equivalent to 2000Hv on the Vickers’ scale. Untreated crystals can allow light to reflect back, significantly affecting the legibility of the dial. So anti-reflective coatings are vapour-deposited on both sides of the glass in a vacuum environment, reducing reflections to less than 0.5% for optimum legibility. The dial of the ALT1-C is where the true definition of ‘classic’ is brought to life and also what makes this model a favourite amongst pilots; its legibility. The dial design is inspired by the fuel gauge of the deHavilland Mosquito, a British twin-engine aircraft that was introduced during the second world war. The regular stainless steel model is available in four dial colours – blue, cream, white and anthracite and looks just as striking on an integrated stainless steel bracelet as it does on a leather strap. In addition to these models, the ALT1-C is also available in polished stainless steel (which has also been put through Bremont’s B-EBE2000 hardening treatment) as well as 18 carat rose gold. The rose gold model is inspired by the great tradition of English watch making, celebrating some of the wonderful classics of the past. The 18-carat rose gold case safely protects a beautifully modified 7750-SO-BI AC chronograph movement. It is also hallmarked at the London Assay Office, where hallmarking began over 700 years ago.

November 4th marked a year since Bremont Ambassador Ross Edgley successfully swam around the entirety of Great Britain. Swimming 1,780 miles in 157 days, Ross faced some incredible physical and mental challenges along the way and his efforts gained him global attention. Bremont caught up with Ross to reflect on this monumental challenge and to see how he has been putting the new S2000 through its paces.

HOW DID THE IDEA FOR THE GREAT BRITISH SWIM COME ABOUT? So there were two reasons why I started the Great British Swim; one is the more media friendly version and the other is one that I don’t tell many people… but I’ll tell you them both. The first reason really stems around Captain Webb who first swam the British Channel in 1875. Back then they said ‘You cannot swim around the British Channel. The water is too cold, the tides are too strong and it simply cannot be done.’ However, Captain Webb on a diet of beef broth and brandy, wearing a woollen wetsuit, swam breaststroke all the way across because the front crawl was ‘ungentleman like’ at the time. It took him around 26 hours to complete and I think the current record now stands at around 6 or 7 but there was just something about the way in which Captain Webb did it that captured the imagination of the British public and the world. I drew a lot of inspiration from that when I was swimming around Great Britain and my swim certainly had a bit of a Captain Webb feel about it. If I can be completely honest, when I started in 2018, I had no intention of swimming around Great Britain and I originally wanted to set the world record for the longest ‘current neutral’ swim. I went down to the Royal Marines in Lympstone and they told me to swim for 48 hours and that they would be my lifeguards

and monitor me to make sure I was OK, so that’s what I did and I managed to swim 160km. I was then in the officers mess afterwards, I had trenchfoot and my hands were so absorbed with moisture that they were just falling apart so I was putting talcum powder and lotions on. One of the old boys came over to me with his cup of tea and looked me up and down and he said “you boy, what are you doing?” so I told him I was training for the world’s longest ‘current neutral’ swim. His response was “Can I be honest with you young man…that just sounds a bit s**t” followed by “you should attempt to swim around Great Britain” so I shook his hand and said “OK, I’ll see you when I’m back.” So there was certainly the inspiration that I drew from Captain Webb but equally, and to be honest, it was a sportsman’s bet which went right or wrong depending on which way you look at it. WHAT WAS THE REACTION WHEN YOU ANNOUNCED YOUR PLANS FOR THE SWIM? When I announced the Great British Swim, there were mixed reactions as you can imagine. The British coastline is renowned for its headlands, whirlpools and strong tides so people said that it simply could not be done. In honesty, that spurred me on more and as we went around the coast it gathered momentum and as the story started to build people began to think that I was crazy enough to actually do this. It was nice to see peoples’ reaction change with every mile we covered. WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TAKE ON A CHALLENGE LIKE THIS? I so often get asked about my motivation for the swim and the answer is that it changed a lot with every changing tide, every hour swam, and I often say that your reason to continue needs to be bigger than your reason to stop. So when I was swimming in the dead of night, couldn’t see my hand in front of my face, yes sometimes I’d think about my family and friends, but

boat and looked up at Matt, the captain, and I said that I just needed to stop for a moment because I’d been hit by a jellyfish and the pain won’t subside. He looked down at me and said ‘yes I know, it’s still wrapped around your face!’ The jellyfish had threaded its way around my goggles and I had been wearing it for the last hour all whilst trying to stay clear of these whirlpools. WHAT DID IT TAKE TO GET THROUGH THE TOUGHEST MOMENTS OF THE SWIM? In those dark moments I tapped into something I call ‘feral fortitude’ which is like a powerful primitive state, for instance, I was nursing sea ulcers on my neck, parts of my tongue were falling off because all of the moisture was being taken out by the salt, so when I was in those moments it’s almost like an injured animal will just fight to the death, it’s known as ‘stress induced analgesia’. Quite often I would feel the same where your survival instinct just kicks in. A big part of this swim was about surviving at sea, not just swimming at sea. sometimes as well you can think ‘I wonder if there’s any pizza left on the boat’? It can be these type of thoughts that just keep you going through particular moments. I refused to think about the end. When I was training with the Royal Marines some of the best advice they gave me was to ‘think about the process’ so if you focus on the simple tasks like putting one arm in front of the other, keep doing that and never say quit, then the outcome becomes inevitable. WHAT WAS THE TOUGHEST MOMENT YOU FACED? Without doubt the toughest moment of the swim has to be Corryvreckan in Scotland, where there was a giant whirlpool. We were speaking to local fishermen at the time who were saying that people have lost their lives and ships had gone down so they said ‘you swim and swim hard’. So I would look down at my watch and swim as hard as I could and after about 3 hours in I got hit by a jellyfish in the face and it was like if someone had a hot poker and pressed it against your face. It felt like it was searing my skin, but I was very aware that I had to keep swimming. A few hours later I got to the

HOW CRITICAL WAS TIMING DURING THE GREAT BRITISH SWIM? Timing was absolutely critical. In theory, the tide changes every six hours, so it doesn’t matter if it’s 2 o’clock in the morning or 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the tide will change and you either swim with it or you don’t. Every time you don’t that counts as a missed opportunity, so we were religiously looking at the tides and time, just making sure that when we were swimming we were making best use of what Mother nature was giving us. For 157 days I would wake up every day and my only thoughts would be ‘what is the tide doing?’ and ‘what is the time?’ Getting those two things right put me in the best shape to be able to complete this swim. We were also racing against the British Summer. If we didn’t make it around the top of Scotland in time then that weather window would close and jeopardise the swim. WHY DO YOU RELY ON A MECHANICAL WATCH RATHER THAN A QUARTZ/ELECTRONIC ALTERNATIVE? When doing the swim, one thing we quickly realised was that devices with lithium batteries aren’t very dependable and can easily give up on you. We were caught in an arctic storm coming from Iceland for instance and it was in these moments of harsh temperature changes that we found that these ‘advancements’ in technology were failing us and so the best thing you can do is just go back to that Captain Webb era and what they may have been using. Quite often the solutions are mechanical because of their durability and dependability. You don’t want to be caught in the ocean without a watch because you don’t know how long you’ve been swimming, hypothermia might kick in and you may not know when the tide

is going to change. I often say that I like my Bremont because it looks good, but I owe my Bremont a lot because of what it goes through with me. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE WORKING WITH A BRITISH WATCH COMPANY LIKE BREMONT AND TESTING OUR WATCHES ‘BEYOND ENDURANCE’? It was amazing how the Great British Swim captured the attention of people around the world and it was just such a British thing to do. We are renowned for our eccentric British explorers and adventurers. So for me, proudly wearing a Bremont on my wrist feels like a natural connection. We are ‘fiercely progressive’ in that we’re trying to push technology and find new ways of pushing an industry forwards. How deep can you dive with a watch? What temperatures can it withstand? Testing these watches in the most hostile environments is exactly what I am doing with my body so for me, I’m very proud to wear this British watch on my wrist. WHAT DOES THE TERM ‘TESTED BEYOND ENDURANCE’ MEAN TO YOU? The motto resonates with me because I’m a Sports Scientist, I come from Loughborough University and so often we will test sports science in quite restrictive conditions and the Great British Swim took the sport of swimming and moved it outside of conventional realms so that’s something I aim to continue to do. I just want to test human endurance, performance and mental resilience beyond what we already know. CALLUM has revisited one of Ian Callum’s most iconic creations. After 18 months of development, the Aston Martin Vanquish 25 by CALLUM retains the iconic silhouette whilst benefitting from over one hundred design changes, each offering form and function benefits. MOTORCLASSICA CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE Earlier this year in October, The Motorclassica, Australia's largest and most prestigious Concours D'elegance, celebrated its 10th Anniversary. Taking place over three days in Melbourne, guests enjoyed over 500 classic, new exotic and prestige cars and motorcycles. Ultimately, winning the coveted "Best in Show" award for 2019 was a beautiful 1959 Aston Martin DB 2/4MK III, in primrose yellow. Beating 140 vehicles to take the highly-contested top prize, 2019 marked the second time in Motorclassica history that an Aston Martin has won Best in Show - evidence of the importance and collectability of early David Brown Aston Martins. BREMONT IN THE MOVIES Bremont has been the watch of choice for many famous faces over the years. Here we take a look back at some of the highlights. Written by Bremont Co-Founder, Giles English.

Watchmaking is a challenging industry to be in because we are running a very complex business. Engineering components that are machined to 1/5th of a human hair and simultaneously building a global brand is no mean feat. Few people buy a watch if they have never heard of the marque, even if it’s an amazing timepiece. Over the years we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have been featured in some fantastic films and TV programmes alike. Not only has the exposure been brilliant for getting the Bremont brand out there, but it’s been both flattering and humbling that it has all come about due to either the actors or producers having wanted to work with Bremont. Due to monies not changing hands, the level of authenticity also added to the exposure. Here are a few fun examples...

The military world is very small indeed and Tom Hardy has long since been a massive supporter of our military watches which is how we originally came to meet one another. As a lover of mechanical watches, Tom has built up a lovely Bremont collection over the years and him asking to wear one of our watches when filming for his latest blockbuster ‘Venom’ was something we couldn’t say no to. We hadn’t realised the impact of the Marvel universe until we saw that the trailer had 64 million views on the first day! Tom rocks his Bremont U-2/51-JET in the film.

The first Bremont seen on TV was when Bear Grylls started wearing our watches on his shows, as an adventurer who was pushing himself in extreme environments the ALT1-P2 was a perfect watch for him. We first met Bear in London through mutual friends, before he found his TV fame, and loved his enthusiasm for life. If a watch could survive a few episodes with Bear, it should be able to survive most things!

We had heard that Hugh Laurie had been into one of our retailers in London and purchased a Bremont U-2 with a black dial. We didn’t think much of it until we saw him wearing it on the last episode of the smash hit US show ‘House’. Thank you Hugh!

Nick and I first met Tom Cruise when he came to our father’s airfield near London at the time that he was filming the first Mission Impossible. As a keen pilot, Tom popped over to our aircraft restoration business and asked to sit in our father’s Spitfire that we were working on. He was utterly charming. One week later Nick and my father had their aircraft crash, where our father died and Nick sustained multiple injuries. What really resonated and was immensely special, was Tom getting in touch with the hospital to see if he could do anything to help Nick. Years later Nick reconnected with Tom in LA with lunch and a tour of his aircraft Hangar. With a shared love of aviation Tom has always been a great supporter of the brand.

As an Englishman who is also local to Henley-onThames we have been friends with Orlando Bloom for many years. As a watch lover we have always had a shared connection, and Orlando has been a great supporter of the brand. His latest project is ‘Carnival Row’ and here he is seen wearing the new Broadsword during his promotional tour, a watch that we have made with the Ministry of Defence. Orlando can also be seen wearing his cream dialled ALT1-C as far back as 2007 on his Pirates of the Caribbean red carpet appearances. Orlando has been an invaluable ally over the years, he has an incredible eye for detail, loves British made, all things mechanical and really appreciates the nuances of a mechanical watch.

6. EWAN McGREGOR AND CHARLEY BOORMAN Another early amount of exposure for Bremont on TV was when Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman wore their Bremonts on their motorcycling TV show, the ‘Long Way Down’. Charley introduced us to his great friend Ewan and we all got on brilliantly. When they took the watches to wear on their epic adventure in Spring 2007, the brand still hadn’t officially launched! For Nick and myself, the prospect of having these two great chaps hammering our watches for 4 months over dirt tracks was too good an opportunity to miss. We learnt a lot about the robustness of the watches, and Charley has remained an ambassador to the brand ever since.

7. KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE Matthew Vaughn and his wife, Claudia Schiffer, walked into our Mayfair store a few years ago and explained to our store manager that Bremont had been recommended to them as the best military watch brand to work with and that we were the preeminent British watch brand too. At the time Matthew was working on a British spy film and thought we would be a natural fit. We subsequently met with Matthew and loved the idea of his new film. After a number of months of working together we produced the ultimate spy watch, the Bremont Kingsman, based on the ALT1-WT World Timer. The cast also included Mark Strong who wore a stainless steel modified Kingsman chronograph for his role as Merlin. More recently, he wears his ALT1-ZT/51 in his latest Sky TV series ‘Temple’, where he plays a surgeon willing to operate on anyone willing to pay. Hard to find a nicer chap, Mark is a great appreciator of British engineering and loves mechanical watches.

WHY BREMONT?

WHY INVEST IN A BREMONT WATCH? When you are looking at buying a watch there is no lack of choice out there, when we started Bremont there were several hundred Swiss Watch brands, all with varying degrees of quality and history, but certainly no lack of choice for the consumer. Naturally being one of the few British watch companies made us that little bit different but we needed to be a lot more than that.

QUALITY

We had to produce watches that we felt any experienced watchmaker from around the world, who had no idea who we were or anything about the wonderful history of British watchmaking, would pick up and instantly recognise the quality of the timepiece. They would appreciate the unique case construction made with steel over 7 times harder than your standard watch, appreciate the fact that all our movements were chronometer tested and beautifully finished, understand the effort we had made with the 9 layers of anti-reflective/hardening coatings on our crystals and ultimately the very unique and distinctively Bremont designs. It was clear to everyone we were not out there to copy others but chart our own path.

EXCLUSIVITY

When we launched, we knew if we wanted to manufacture in the UK and ensure the watches were engineered to the highest possible standards in the industry, it would certainly be about quality, and not quantity. The nature of manufacturing in the UK has meant that we have to be exclusive. Despite the unique apprenticeship schemes we have in place, our watchmakers and engineers take years to train up. What that means is that the product you are buying from us is made in relatively small numbers, and you will not find our watches being grey-marketed around the world. This is very positive when it comes to your watch holding its value over the long-term.

MILITARY ROOTS

We grew up with the military all around us and it was a big influence on our watch designs. When we started working with Martin-Baker (the pioneering British ejection seat manufacturer), it was one of the trigger points for us working with the military sectors. This is an area that we are particularly proud of. The watches you purchase have not been tested by an actor standing in front of aircraft but by real military personnel. We have subsequently been awarded The Armed Forces Covenant for our support of military charities which is very special indeed.

DESIGN

Bremont prides itself on being different and unique in our approach, yes we have been inspired by the vintage watch collecting that we did with our father when we were young, but we always wanted to do a more contemporary take on these watches, bringing in new technologies and influences. WHY BREMONT?

three piece case has also become very distinctive in the industry. Whether it is one of our core watches or one of our special Limited Editions we always look to bring something new to the watch industry.

TESTED BEYOND ENDURANCE The perfect timepiece for us both had to be timeless in design (something you could pick up in 20 years time and it still look beautiful on the wrist), but also robust. Vintage watches were often wonderful pieces of history and design, but were not always the most reliable. A Bremont watch had to be the watch you could row across the oceans, motorbike down through Africa, or climb the highest mountains with. Durability was paramount. The Anti-Shock® technology inside the Bremont MB and Supermarine ranges were technological advances that allowed these watches to be subjected to extremes of environment - especially in terms of shock and vibration. The fact that various Bremont ambassadors, from the incredibly experienced polar explorer Ben Saunders, to the seasoned adventurer Charley Boorman and of course, most recently, the mountaineer Nirmal ‘Nims’ Purja who has just made the impossible possible in climbing all 14 of the 8,000m peaks in just 6 months (smashing the previous record of 8 years), have tested our watches in the harshest environments on earth is testament to our strapline. All of these remarkable individuals wore their mechanical Bremont watches on their expeditions, and came back working beautifully.

BRITISH MADE

There is an incredible history of British watchmaking. The world still sets its time by Greenwich (not Geneva!), and much of the innovation in any mechanical watch originated on British shores. At Bremont, we are totally passionate about re-invigorating watchmaking in the UK. At one of Bremont’s two watchmaking facilities in Henley-on-Thames, you can witness everything from a bar of metal being machined down to 4 microns in tolerance and making watch parts, to the fully trained watch makers assembling and testing the finished mechanical chronometers. More than anything else, we would love to be able to look back in 20 years’ time and see that Bremont really did play a part in the reinvigoration of watchmaking on British shores. The British have a certain sense of style and we try and bring that into the design of our watches, but I would only suggest buying British if the quality of the product competes with the finest in the market, and with Bremont that is most definitely the case. Buying British means you are supporting a work force and a whole watch industry in the UK. Provenance aside, the product clearly needs to hold its own against the finest in the market and we certainly believe this to be the case with our Bremont range of watches.

MBIII 10TH ANNIVERSARY

ALT1-C BLUE

The new white dialled MBIII, limited to only 310 pieces, has been designed and built to mark the 10th Anniversary since the release of Bremont’s first MB watch back in 2009.

2018 marked 100 years of British military aviation and the ALT1-C Blue was redesigned in this signature blue which is synonymous with the RAF.

The watch adds a new dimension to the existing range, taking fresh design cues from a military project commissioned by the RAF’s 100 Squadron members to celebrate their centenary and complement their Hawk T1 Jet aircraft.

This exciting new 42mm hardened steel-cased military dive watch, houses a three-handed chronometer rated BE-92AV movement and is approved by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.

NON-INTEGRATED BRACELET

The integrated bracelet fits most Bremont models and is engineered from 316L stainless steel. The bracelet’s clasp uses a push button release to allow for easy fitting and comfortable wear. The end pieces link up directly to the watch case.

The non-integrated bracelet features a straight end piece and does not link directly with the barrel of the watch. This option is recommended for watches such as the MB and the U-2.

01. BRITISH ENGINEERING Great Britain has a wonderful history when it comes to watchmaking and has probably been the home to more advances in horology than any other nation. Bremont is determined to play a pivotal role in the reinvigoration of this industry on British shores. Bremont builds many of its own watch components at its state-of-the-art parts manufacturing facility in Ruscombe, near Henley. As a company we verge on the obsessive in the desire to produce watches that are over-engineered for the task in hand. This passion becomes very evident when you hold a Bremont watch.

02. AVIATION AND MILITARY The love and passion for aviation has coursed through the founders' veins from an early age. There has always been a very close association between time and aviation since the first brave adventurers took to the skies over 100 years ago. The love of aviation and its uncompromising demands are inherent in every Bremont watch. Hand-in-hand with Bremont's love of aviation is the company's appreciation of military. Bremont has worked closely with the military for a number of years.

My role involves ensuring the smooth running of the boutique, introducing new customers to the brand and providing an informative and enjoyable experience to each and every person that enters the store…. not to mention selling watches! WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WORKING FOR BREMONT AND WHY? My favourite thing about working for Bremont is the people. As cliché as it may sound, working for Bremont is like being a part of a big family and I am confident in saying that the Bremont team does not lack personality! Everyone gets on extremely well and whether based in Henley or not, we all speak regularly and always find the time to catch up with each other.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT WORKING AT THE CANARY WHARF STORE? I love that no day at the Canary Wharf boutique is the same. I have always been a talkative and enthusiastic person so interacting with new people every day while working alongside an amazing team makes my work life very enjoyable. WHICH BREMONT DO YOU WEAR AND WHY? I wear the ALT1-C/PB on a Hambleden Nato style strap. I have always liked the classic range due to the symmetry of the dial and the open case back exposing the movement within the case. I chose the polished black variant as I love the contrast of the grey subdials set against the black dial. It’s such a classic watch which goes with everything. WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE CAN SOMEONE EXPECT FROM VISITING A BREMONT BOUTIQUE? A client visiting a Bremont Boutique can be ensured of receiving a tailor-made Bremont experience as we assist each customer in finding the perfect watch to suit their needs and lifestyle while providing a luxury but laid back and friendly service. 03. ADVENTURE A key design requisite for the timepieces from the outset was the desire to make beautifully robust and durable watches that were at home both in the workplace and of course in rather more physical environments. The watches continue to be tested to the limits, both in the workshop but also by Bremont’s ambassadors and partners.
