Uraufführung | World premiere Burkhard Glaetzner (ob) Montepulciano | 07/1982 Vor und zurück ist aus einem Rhythmus-Modell der 13. Diabelli-Variation von Beethoven entwickelt.

Daraus sind alle rhythmischen Verhältnisse nach den einzeln veränderbaren Kategorien a) Länge des Modells, b) Zahl der Anschläge, c) Proportion der Dauern abgeleitet. Die verschiedenen spieltechnischen Möglichkeiten der Oboe hinsichtlich der Dynamik, der Klangfarbe (Alternativgriffe für einen Ton), der Klangcharakteristik, der Register, der Artikulationen und deren vielfältige Mischung sowie die einkomponierte körperliche Anstrengung des Interpreten färben und „instrumentieren“, ebenfalls dem Rhythmus-Modell gehorchend, drei Ausdruckscharakteristiken. Diese knüpfen in stets veränderter Reihenfolge aneinander an und bilden dadurch, dass sie bei jedem Auftauchen kompositorisch neu formuliert sind, die Form des Stückes als eines fortlaufenden, spiralartigen Prozesses. Neben diesem „Vor und zurück“ gibt es auch ein historisches: Aus Beethovens Rhythmusmodell wird ein Stück mit fortschrittlichen Elementen unserer Zeit.

Vor und zurück is developed from a rhythm model of Beethoven‘s 13th Diabelli Variation. All the rhythmic relationships are derived from it according to the individually alterable categories a) length of the model, b) number of attacks and c) proportion of the durations. The oboe’s different playing capabilities in respect of dynamics, timbre (alternative fingerings for a given note), the sound character, the register, articulation and the many combinations thereof, plus the incorporated physical exertion of the performer give colour and “instumentation” to three expressive characteristics, according to the rhythm model.

These link in with one another, in constantly varying sequence and it is their re-composition at every appearance that shapes the piece as a continuous, spiral-like process. In addition to this “vor und zurück” (forwards and backwards, to and from) there is also a historical aspect: from Beethoven’s rhythm model there emerges a piece with progressive elements of our time.
