FREE weekly performances are held in public spaces across Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital to enhance the healthcare environment for patients, staff and visitors.

The Teak Project Monday 13th January

Our Winter Season finds us travelling on a musical journey through Asia, Europe and the far-east. We host an exciting blend of world class performers, all fully committed to sharing their music and artistic talents with our wonderful audiences. Along the way we will be celebrating some exciting cultural events, including Chinese New Year, the Winter Olympics, some of our favourite composers’ birthdays and our patron Saints Days. So come along, bring your lunch and enjoy this special opportunity to access some truly world-class performances in the unique setting of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals.

The Teak Project is a cross cultural collaboration between three of Britain’s finest young improvisers coming together to make their own music. Though they marry Indian music and jazz, their aim is not to break new ground, but rather express their wealth of musical and social experiences.

Resonance. It’s what happens when something moves at its natural frequency. With soulful vocals and blues riffs, Radhika and her steel-string acoustic guitar will be playing a set of original songs.

Celebrating Mozart’s Birthday Litsa Tunnah is quickly establishing a reputation as a virtuoso concert violinist. Since making her concerto debut at the age of 12 Litsa has appeared as soloist with major orchestras including Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Kensington Sinfonia, St Bartholomew Chamber Orchestra, London International Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.


Stella Quartet

February 2014

Monday 24th February Originating from around the globe — England, Ireland, France and Russia — Stella Quartet are all passionate about playing chamber music and sharing it with as wide an audience as possible. Today’s performance includes works from both Beethoven and Shostakovich that are integral pieces of the string quartet repertoire.

Spread the Word Monday 3rd February National Storytelling Week Join Spread the Word and writers Femi Martin and Laila Sumpton to celebrate National Storytelling Week. Take part in a story mosaic, compose ‘nanofiction’ (55 word stories) and ‘micro-poetry’ (one-line poems) of your own, and enjoy a fun and interactive performance from Laila and Femi.

Celebrating John Williams’ Birthday

St David’s Day Celebrations

An array of American film music centred round the work of composer John Williams. This concert, with violin and piano duo of sisters Ramona and Claudia Racovicean will include favourites such as Schindler’s List set alongside some of the most exciting and interesting American film music of the past 50 years

Come and experience the mesmerizing sound of a harp ensemble. The performance is given by Breathe’s resident harpists who usually play solo in the wards and clinical spaces around the two hospitals but who have joined together for a unique and special concert.

Siobhain O’Higgins Monday 17th February Siobhain O’Higgins has been described as ‘the perfect classical pianist’ with considerable pianistic skills, ‘sensitive and instantly responsive’. Join her as she sweeps you through a wonderful programme of Russian classical pieces.

Zena Edwards Monday 10th March Celebrating International Women’s Day Poet and vocalist Zena Edwards, who has performed internationally for 20 years, teams up with acclaimed composer/guitarist, Jon Speedy from ‘The Boom Yeah’ to deliver a dynamic performance of spoken word poetry, song and music from all over the world — some true gems of trans-global storytelling.

Lunchtime Performances are held Mondays 1– 2pm, GASSIOT HOUSE in Central Hall, South Wing within St Thomas’ Hospital FOUNTAIN & GARDEN LUPUS UNIT

Featuring flutes, harp, bodhran, guitar, bouzouki and vocals Ranagri fuse Celtic folk with original song writing and vibrant instrumentals. Individually they have recorded with Peter Gabriel, Tony Christie, Jonny Greenwood and on film soundtracks including The Hobbit. They will perform a vibrant set of Irish folksongs and original music to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Composer, pianist and accordionist Maurizio Minardi performs his original music. Reminiscent of Nino Rota, Yann Tiersen, Rene Aubry, Michael Nyman and Sakamoto, Maurizio’s intimate and expressive sound is defined by a daring and unique combination of genres from baroque to minimalist jazz fired up with splashes of tango and rumba.

Jyotsna Srikanth Wednesday 15th January Jyotsna Srikanth is the most sought after BritishIndian violinist and composer known for her versatility and ability to collaborate with different genres seamlessly and with ease. She has performed in prestigious music festivals & venues and played violin for nearly 200 Indian films.

El-Andaluz take the audience on a journey through a poetic and reflective Andalusian Nuba to the trance-like Sufi music of the Sahara, then to a classical Egyptian belly dance, ending with the celebratory Chabi music of Algeria that never fails to get the audience up on their feet and dancing.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Kalia sings folk tales of love and loss, with nostalgia for far-away homelands, and plays melodies of distant longing. The resulting sound is a musical landscape evoking the wild and rugged mountains of Greece and the sunlight of the Mediterranean coast.

To celebrate Chinese New Year (Year of the Horse), we take you on a seasonal journey through the music of China, performing a selection of solo and group pieces from traditional and regional repertories as well as popular melodies and modern pieces. The trio’s signature sound is a fresh interpretation and arrangement of traditional and contemporary Chinese musical works.

Christopher Guild Wednesday 5th February World Cancer Awareness Day Scottish pianist Christopher Guild is known for his innovative approach to programming and maintains a strong interest in unusual piano music. This concert pairs the striking and original Variations for Judith with a warhorse of the repertoire, Mussorgsky’s everloved Pictures at an Exhibition. www.dimblebycancercare.org

Japanese born virtuoso Maki Sekiya makes another sensational appearance since returning from Moscow after 15 years. Her performance celebrates the rich, Russian musical heritage and includes the arrangement of the popular Tchaikovsky Symphony no.5 by Taneev for 4hands, and legendary virtuosic master piece Islamey by Balakirev. Maki will be joined by her husband and pianist Ilya Chetverikov.

March 2014 Mazaika Duo Wednesday 12th February A perfect yet totally unconventional marriage of violin, accordion and voice, showcasing performances full of fun and virtuosity, emotional depth and musical subtlety. Mazaika will take you on a troika into the heart of Russia, where you will experience the joy and sorrow of Russian folk and Gypsy songs and the fiery passion of the gypsy violin.

City of London Sinfonia Wednesday 5th March Celebrating Vivaldi’s Birthday We are truly delighted to welcome back musicians from the world famous City of London Sinfonia who will play chamber works by Vivaldi and his contemporaries in celebration of Vivaldi’s birthday.


Marlene Verwey Wednesday 12th March Sir James Galway Rising Star, Marlene Verwey (flute), and pianist Anne Marshall were both born in South Africa and graduated from the Royal College of Music. They are presenting a programme of works by Bach, Schubert and Reinecke.
