Breath, voice and the art of expression...
rch resea h t l ea arts h
This concert season we present a number of performances that show how using the voice itself as an instrument of expression can become a powerful tool that allows us to give life to our thoughts, emotions and imagination. The performers explore this theme in their own unique ways — be it through traditional song (both accompanied or a cappella), through singing collectively, through the poetry and lyrics of their song-writing and experiences of the world, by turning the traditional process of song-writing on its head or simply by experimenting with the amazing sounds that the human voice can produce. Throughout history artists have sought creative ways to express themselves, sometimes without ever being able to use the voice at all, and we include this element to show the amazing skill of composers to do this effectively.
New Year New Connections We also welcome some exciting new partnerships — London’s Southbank Centre and Song in the City make their debut appearances with us this season and we look forward to working with them over the coming year.
Reading Group From March we take our theme of the voice a step further; partnering with The Reader organisation, we will be offering patients and staff the opportunity to experience how writers use their voice to express their thoughts and emotions and explore what impact this may have on our own life. A regular reading group is planned for St Thomas’ in the Knowledge & Information Centre. Watch out for more information on this in the new year.
