According to Pantone, Peach Fuzz is “a soft shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.” Inspired by care and comfort, it evokes natural warmth with a vitamin-rich yet airy energy. A pleasant and positive color that straddles orange and pink, this dynamic color represents peaceful togetherness. In a rare moment, Pantone and Coloro both selected similar juicy and fruit-forward hues for 2024—with Apricot Crush being named by the latter. rusted & rooted These rich red-browns are warm and woody with a luxury edge. Stability, authenticity, and opulence underscore these surprisingly raw and painterly colors reminiscent of soil and clay, like palette classic burnt sienna. Oxblood and burgundy are purple-brown-reds that have become colored neutrals with historical power as well, tied to traditional crafts like winemaking and pottery glazing. Another restorative colorway, this wellness-adjacent color family takes a refreshing and sustainable cue from herbal teas. For example, non-toxic and earthwise natural dyes made from Rooibos are being used to color garments while significantly reducing the textile industry’s carbon footprint. A trend in itself, the natural dyes market is growing at a CAGR of 12% and is expected to reach $1.5B by 2026. Usually a fall or winter staple, these muted yet full-bodied tones of rooibos, rust, and burgundy are starting to have transeasonal appeal as new neutrals year-round. WGSN’s color forecasting partner, Coloro, announced Intense Rust as a key hue for Fall-Winter 2024. But Pantone announced “Rooibos Tea” as one of the top ten colors for SpringSummer 2024. Many fashion brands and designers have been incorporating this color into their collections; in fact, Gucci’s new creative director Sabato de Sarno featured a multi-dimensional oxblood as the new “it color” in their Spring-Summer 2024 show—aptly named Gucci Rossa. Embrace the darkness because goth culture is having a moment. Whether we’re talking #softgoth or #whimsigoth or mermaidcore’s emo sister “sirencore”, gunmetal and slick black elements are adding a powerful edginess to closets, hard goods, interiors, and graphic design.

Inspired by pop culture events like Netflix’s Wednesday or 2024’s most anticipated movie release according to IMDb, Beetlejuice 2 (both starring Gen Z “it girl” Jenna Ortega), withy-cool style is in. Dior’s Spring-Summer 2024 at Paris Fashion Week featured a haunting procession of moody makeup, chokers, and black-onblack styling. Even Rodarte, known for florals and soft aesthetics, unveiled a glam “Goth Fairy” line in 2023. On TikTok, #goth has 22.3 billion views with #grunge at 10.1 billion views. According to WGSN strategist, Maria Giustino, “Mixing a subversive and rebellious spirit with feminine undertones, #GothLite themes gain momentum across youth, influenced by subcultures and driven by a desire for escapism in a world of uncertainty.” In interiors, BEHR named its 2024 Color of the Year as Cracked Pepper, a deep and dramatic black-gray that has a bit of a bite and represents the soft goth aesthetic in home decor. And according to psychology professor Dr. Dacher Keltner at UC Berkeley, the “younger generations in general are more stressed, anxious, and self-conscious than at any time in history.” Here’s the skinny: The desire to connect deeper is a very strong outcome of experiencing multiple oncein-a-lifetime events. And our efficiency-driven way of doing business is leaving out some key consumer sentiments that put humanity and feeling at the forefront. In fact, 61% of people say that companies and brands aren’t doing anything original these days. And 74% of people say they are just waiting for something good to happen. We’ve already seen more focus on authenticity and equality with flexible ideas of identity, but tapping deeper into the emotional drives of our consumers will be key. People want to feel seen, excited, recognized, and entertained. Playful experiences that stimulate emotions like surprise and joy become mood-boosting magnets for consumers. Travel trends like Condé Nast Traveller’s “joy therapy” and transformative travel also capitalize on emotion—putting betterment of self, growth, wonder, and wellness at the center of the journey.
