FORMER SCHOLAR UPDATES

Jessica Herlitz studies Biology and Film at Northwestern University. L last summer she worked as a research assistant in Dr. Yune Lee’s SLAM Lab. This summer she will be co-writing and co-directing her own feature film, BurntheBoats , in addition to shadowing orthopedic surgeons at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. She continues to incorporate the breathing practice she learned as a 2021 Scholar before every test or other important event to calm her mind and tap into her confidence.

Shradda Uppu is currentlyapplyingto medical schools, working in an I immunobiology lab, and teaching CPR/AED/First Aid classes. She s uses the rabbit and elephant frameworkdailyto organize her classes and study time, ensures she takes brain breaks, and tries to focus on one thing at a time. She credits learning about various research projects during the BrainHealth Scholars program for sparking her interest in research.

Zack Nguyen, a 2022 Scholar, is working on his master’s thesis which w will be an art installation with interactive elements. He wants to x expand his knowledge in neuroaesthetics, delving into how aesthetic experiences can enhance brain healthand well-being. He has been advocating for brain health in the local community. Inspired by Bonnie Pitman, he developed a website (http://averycuriouslife.xyz/homepage.html) to help generate ideas for doing something new every day

Alana Wickham graduated from Trinity University in December 2022 and lives in Boston where she works on neuroimaging research with Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. She plans to work as a research assistant for a few years before applying to PhD programs. Seeking novelty has been crucial to keeping her mind sharp and finding fulfillment in each day. She believes what she learned as a 2022 BrainHealth Scholar helped prepare her to make the huge life decision to move across the country.

College campuses could offer spaces to educate and support the brain health of students. Our blueprint for a brain-healthy student center allows universities to enhance academic and economic outcomes and set up students for enhanced cognition.

We aspire to build a community of compassion and empowerment through our C.A.R.E. Package, which provides vital brain health resources and support for young adults, with special emphasis on students from marginalized backgrounds.
