Give Them the Keys They Need Promoting Adolescent Literacy through Newspapers
Write On! Read More than six out of ten of those with high newspaper exposure during childhood are regular readers as adults. An election year is the perfect time to read the Brainerd Dispatch together at home and discuss articles to understand the political process in the United States.
Students - Pretend You’re the Candidate and Submit to Us! If you were chosen for president of your class, what would you like to happen in your class that would make it a better place to learn?
We invite 1st - 12th graders to submit essays on this topic with the chance to be published on the cover of the March School Pages. Deadline is March 7, 2012. Write a short essay •
200 words or less for grades 7th -12th

We’ll choose the top essays in these age categories to be published March 27 on the cover of the School Pages: 1st to 3rd grade, 4th to 6th grade, 7th to 9th grade, 10th to 12th grade. We encourage teachers to share this opportunity with their class, but if it is a class assignment, please submit only the top three from your class.
