In this urban design project, I collaborated with Ingunn Nonstad Fornes, Nora Nossum, and Casper Kragholm to create a new sustainable district in Nyhavna, Trondheim. Our team conducted extensive research on the site and discovered that Trondheim, as a city located on a fjord, was not fully utilizing its proximity to the ocean. With this in mind, we envisioned a unique solution - a mobile, floating marine neighborhood in the ocean basin of Nyhavna.
Our focus was on creating a district with a diverse range of residential typologies, which we believed would result in a lively and dynamic community. The design incorporated a marine lifestyle, taking advantage of the unique opportunity to live on the water. Additionally, by building on the ocean, we aimed to preserve valuable agricultural land in the surrounding region.
We sought to maximize densification while preserving the identity of the site, creating a balance between urban development and preserving the character of the area. The result is a thoughtfully designed and sustainable district that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings, offering residents an unparalleled living experience.
