Jérôme Robbe lives and works in the SW of France.

Painting naturally has a certain liquid quality. Robbe lets the paint flow freely and creates an image that contains an immense temporality. For him, fluidity means freedom. The artist heats the plexiglass. It becomes soft, expands and the surface turns into ripples and cracks. The artist then had some water vaporized above the plexiglass. The mist slowly whirls down on the panel. The transparent varnish coloured with pigments then is poured over it and finds its way across the deformed surface, just as a river follows its bed. Gravity and chance do their job. It evokes associations with a horizon or a river through which the abstract monochromes can also be seen as landscape paintings. That landscape is reflected in the process: the pouring of the varnish on the irregular panel, the undulating landscape.

Petroc Sesti is a British artist, born in London where he currently lives and works. Sesti’s work pushes the boundaries of art and science and goes beyond both. He is particularly interested in themes such as motion, chaos, light, and the void, exploring in particular the ever-changing relationships between artwork, the environment and the viewer.

His work speaks to the global wealth of symbolism associated with moving water, clouds and the fluid environment, as seen in the Chinese philosophical notions of Qi, the force that makes up and binds together all the things in the universe, paradoxically at once everything and nothing. This relates to his ongoing fascination with movement and the Void, as seen across his entire practice. His passion for science and cosmology fuel his enquiry into how to contain and display raw energy states and notions of the sublime. This manifests in a broad spectrum of artworks and mediums, be it through complex mechanical pieces, made in collaboration with some of the world’s leaders in earth and space observation or replicating solar flares by detonating gunpowder on paper. His work has been exhibited internationally in private and public collections including the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, the 13th Manifesta Biennale in France, and represented Great Britain at the 9th Shanghai Biennale. Other exhibitions and collections of note include the Qatar Foundation, the ICA London and the New Shanghai Museum Of Contemporary Art. His work is held worldwide in a number of permanent collections including: MONA Museum Tasmania, the Kistefos Museum Norway, the Boghossian Foundation Brussels, YUZI Museum China, Rockefeller Collection New York, Rem Koolhaas’s Qatar Foundation HQ, Manhattan Loft Gardens Stratford International London, and Norman Foster’s Yacht Club Monaco.

Scorpius Star Cluster 155x155cm POA The latest articulations of Sesti’s ongoing desire to sculpt and depict the void, the intricate light boxes and sculptural paintings that make upthis series combine an elegant, minimal aesthetic with a deep engagement with the latest scientific data on their subjects – stars and blackholes. Laser-cutting punctures the surfaces of both with almost microscopic precision to represent, in a neat inversion of scale, galaxies and voids. For the Romantic poets the wildness of Nature was set against the effects industrialization and urbanisation that was beginning to irrevocably change their world. They found in sublime vistas of sky, sea and land both refuge and other wells of meaning beyond thehuman.
