About RGS Surrey Hills
RGS Surrey Hills is a welcoming co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 11 to 18. With around 400 students, we are a small, inclusive school with a global outlook.
As part of the RGS family of schools, and with a proud heritage as Box Hill School, we combine strong academic foundations with a deep commitment to personal growth and wellbeing.
We believe in educating the whole person. Our holistic approach means that while academic achievement is important, we also place a strong emphasis on character development, creativity, confidence, and compassion.
A co-founding member of the Round Square network, we embrace its IDEALS: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service. These values are woven into daily life, helping students become successful learners and responsible global citizens.
Exceptional pastoral care underpins everything we do, ensuring every pupil feels valued, supported, and inspired.
What does it mean to be a part of The RGS Family of Schools?
Being part of The RGS Family of Schools means belonging to a collaborative and values-driven group of schools that share a common ethos, academic ambition, and a deep commitment to the development of the whole child.
RGS Surrey Hills is proud to be part of this educational family, which includes:
Reigate Grammar School (Senior School, Reigate)
Chinthurst School (Prep School, Tadworth)
Micklefield (Prep School, Reigate)
Reigate St Mary’s (Prep School, Reigate)
St Chrisopher’s (Pre-Prep School, Epsom)
And our global partner schools, in China, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia or KSA, Malaysia and Cambodia.
Together, these schools form a connected and supportive educational community. Our pupils benefit from shared expertise, collaborative initiatives, and an enriched curriculum that extends beyond the classroom. Being part of this family enhances opportunities in academics, co-curricular activities, leadership, and global citizenship.
At RGS Surrey Hills, our students receive the individual care and attention of a close-knit school, while also enjoying the strength, scale, and vision of a wider educational network. It’s the best of both worlds: local care, global outlook.
Will my child do well?
At RGS Surrey Hills, academic excellence means more than top grades. It is about sparking curiosity, building resilience, and nurturing a lifelong love of learning. Our students achieve strong results and progress to leading universities, including competitive courses like Medicine, Engineering, and the Arts.
Just as important are the skills and confidence they gain along the way. Through expert teaching, personalised support, and a High-Performance Learning approach, we help every pupil reach their full potential.
Our broad and engaging curriculum combines academic rigour with realworld relevance, from languages and STEM to digital learning and critical thinking. Creativity thrives too, with music, drama, and art playing a vital role in school life.
Sport is open to all, with opportunities for high-level performance and inclusive participation. Alongside this, our co-curricular programme, including leadership, Round Square, DofE, and outdoor education, ensures pupils grow in confidence, character, and compassion.
At RGS Surrey Hills, we prepare young people for life, not just for exams.

How will my child develop and grow?
At RGS Surrey Hills, we believe education is about far more than what happens in the classroom. Our co-curricular and enrichment programme is designed to help every child discover their passions, develop new skills, and grow in confidence and character.
With a wide range of clubs, activities, and societies, from sport, music, and drama to coding, debating, and outdoor pursuits, there is something to spark every interest. As a Round Square school, we encourage pupils to embrace adventure, service, leadership, and internationalism, with opportunities such as global exchanges, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and community engagement.
My family and I chose the School because of the co-curricular. I can focus on my studies, but pursue my passions all at once. I love it here!
Year 7 Pupil
Our smaller school size means we get to know every pupil individually. This allows us to support their development in a truly personal way, whether nurturing a talent, encouraging a new interest, or helping them step out of their comfort zone.
Your child won’t just grow here - they will thrive.
My son is a changed person! Thank you for giving him the encouragement he needed. He has learned so much from older students. We love that co-curricular activities bring year groups together.
Year 8 Parent
At RGS Surrey Hills, education is a shared journey, one that brings together pupils, families, and staff in a warm, inclusive community. We value the strong relationships we build with parents, and we actively encourage their involvement throughout school life.
Many of our students also benefit from the unique opportunities that boarding provides. Whether they board full-time, weekly, or on a flexible basis, pupils enjoy access to the school’s facilities beyond the school day, additional academic support, and a structured, supportive environment. It is a popular option in Sixth Form, where students value the independence and focus it brings, though some join as early as the lower years.
Our students also benefit from a uniquely global perspective. With a diverse pupil body and strong boarding community, friendships formed at RGS Surrey Hills cross cultures and continents and often last a lifetime.
