SUZY SHEPHERD

We welcome Spartans along to Meggetland on Sunday for what will be our 3rd league game of the season. After not having a game last week we are all keen to get back on the pitch for what will be another competitive game. Spartans had a successful season last year and have shown in the league this season already they are not just here to make up the numbers. We are going to have to be at our best individually and as a team to ensure we get the points. I hope you enjoy the game, Suzy Shepherd

CAPTAIN’S COLUMN

AVAILABLE TO SPONSOR ALIX WILKINSON The game this weekend against Spartans Dev will be a good battle for us as a team. They are a physical side with players that aren’t afraid to shoot. We have all worked hard in training over the past few weeks on the lead up to this match. Having the free week last week the girls are all itching to get back out on the pitch and get more points on the board. We have worked on some new things at training if we take them into Sunday, be together and win our battles all over the pitch I know for a fact we will come away the happy team. C’mon the Thistle! Match report BTFC

CFC

espite Hannah Markley’s stunning first half strike and the dismissal of the DCeltic keeper, Thistle were unable to progress beyond the first round of the league up.

Suzy Shepherd made a few changes coming into this game throwing debutant goalkeeper Katie moodie in to replace the unavailable Stella Paton, Ashleigh Clark and Jasmine Mckay were brought in at the back and Sam Duncan linking up with Debbie To upfront. In comparison to the previous week, Thistle started this game with a great tempo against the young Hoops side. The early spark was quickly paid off when the hosts went 1-0 from an early goal of season contender from Markley. A resultant corner in the 5th minute was cleared to the edge of the box where Hannah executed a fantastic half volley which left the Celtic keeper with hopeless to save. Celtic managed to revitalise there selves and competed well throughout the remainder of the half with chances few and far between the two sides. The second half appeared to contrast the first with Celtic immediately equalising against the run of play with an exquisite chip.

A Thistle throw-in was intercepted and a long ball managed to get behind our defenders to reach the Celtic number 9 who lobbed the keeper confidently with the 1v1. Following this, Dramatic scenes ensued as the Celtic keeper Kerr was adjudged to have handled the ball outside her area, with the official brandishing the red card with this deemed a clear goal scoring opportunity. Boroughmuir Thistle then dominated almost every statistic - with more territory, possession, shots and crosses than their opponents. However, Suzy Shepherds side once again struggled in the area that ultimately counts - scoring goals - against a solid Hoops side. Thistle’s best chances resulted in Markley hitting the post from close range and Templeton unable to to get on the end of a teasing cross in front of goal. It felt like the script was written for Thistle when Celtic got the winner in the brink of time. A chipped ball into Celtic’s Wands resulted in a Clark intercepting laying off Bowie to slot home the winner. Jubilation for Celtic and Despair for Thsitle

The interview

THE INTERVIEW KIRSTY MADEN Next up is our interview with Kirsty Maden. Despite her lack of game time recently, Kirsty has been a strong component of the Thistle team, playing exceptionally well last season interchanging between cnetre back and midfield Q: Firstly Kirsty , When did you sign for Boroughmuir Thistle and how did it come about? This is my 3rd season with Thistle, I joined because some of the uni team recommended it. Q: Tell us about your football career so far? I played for Falkirk throughout my youth and when I moved for uni I joined Edinburgh Uni 1st team and Spartans Dev. I gave up playing club football to concentrate on my studies for a bit before joining Boroughmuir Q: What’s it like to play for thistle every week Every week is a test, the league is so competitive where every team takes points of each other so it makes every game feel like a cup game Q: Who is the best trainer in the team? veryone has stepped it up this season but I’d probably say the best trainer is captain Al, she’s always there even when injured!

The interview

Q: Who is the worst trainer in the team? Competition for places is tough this year so everyone’s stepped it up in training Q: Sitting on the fence much lol, What is your preferred position? I used to always say centre mid but Suzy’s turned me into a defender so I now feel comfortable at centre back! Q: What is the best feature about your game? Probably being composed on the ball Q: What is the worst feature about your game? I’d say my pace, definitely one of the slowest in the team but is something I’m trying to work on! Q: What is your proudest moment in football so far? Probably my time at Edinburgh Uni, winning leagues and cups! Either that or getting into regionals at youth level. Q: Most embarrassing moment in football if you care to share? When I was younger I collided with the post and was knocked unconscious with blood streaming down my face, the ref then stopped the game because of it. Pretty embarrassing! Q: Favourite pre match meal? Eggs on toast with a cup of tea!

17

The interview

Q: Favourite post match meal? Something fast like pasta or noodles as I’m always hungry after a game! Q: Who is your football hero? As a big Falkirk fan, it has to be Russell Latapy. Used to love watching him play! Q:He was amazing tbf! What secondary school did you go to? James Gillespies. Q: What was your favourite subject at school? Graeme High in Falkirk Q: What boots do you wear? Classic Adidas Q: What music do you listen to? I like indie/rock music. My favourite bands are Frightened Rabbit, Biffy Clyro and the Foo fighters Q: What is your favourite film? Hot Fuzz Q: What are your aspirations in football? Too soon to pick as we’ve only played a few games. I think some of the new players that have came in have been a good addition.

18

The interview

Q: Most improved player so far? I think Ash has started the season well. She was left out a bit last year so it’s good to see she hasn’t given up. Q: What are you career aspirations in football? What are your aspirations in football? Q: What are you career aspirations outside football? Live, Laugh, Love :P Q: Most surprising fact about you? I can play the piano! Thank you very much Kirsty, All the best for today and the rest of the season. Kirsty Maden is still available to sponsor
