De-colonising the Biblical Narrative, Volume One represents a landmark in contemporary hermeneutics. In this volume we take into account our colonial history and develop a decolonising hermeneutic which we employ to identify the colonial editing of the text and to retrieve pre-colonial narratives with which First Nations peoples of Australia may resonate. In the first volume we attempt to de-colonise the narratives of Genesis 1–11 and retrieve pre-colonial legends that are comparable to First Nations ancestral narratives. In Genesis One, for example, we retrieve a Primal Land Narrative in which the primordial ground is born, comes to life, creates life and is named ‘Land’ by the Creator Spirit.

Shattering the popular myth that porn is harmless, the personal accounts of 25 women reveal the real-life trauma experienced by women at the hands of their porn-consuming partners. This necessary book dares to tell the truth about pornography’s destructive impact.

spinifex Press is an independent Australian-owned feminist press which has been publishing for more than 30 years across commercial and literary fiction, poetry and non-fiction. Non-fiction includes autobiography, politics, ecology, Indigenous issues, and feminism.

In this blisteringly persuasive and piercingly intelligent book, Sheila Jeffreys argues that women live under penile imperialism, a regime in which men are assumed to have a ‘sex right’ of access to the bodies of women and girls. This is a sobering and brilliant analysis of the modern predicament of women that is impossible to ignore.

Balgo: Creating Country is a landmark publication in Aboriginal art, Australian history, and art historical scholarship. The book tells the story of the Balgo art movement, one of the most vibrant, colourful and influential schools of Western Desert painting. But to tell that story, it also tells another: the story of Balgo itself, a tiny community on the fringes of the desert—created by missionaries and now governed by Aboriginal people, and a place where art emerged as a response to that history. Balgo: Creating Country shows the birth of a painting movement in the context of thousands of years of cultural practice, breaking down the category of Aboriginal art and rebuilding it, dot by dot, into something resembling the language of a new Australian art.

Garreth Hoyle is a true crime writer whose destructive love affair with hallucinogenic drugs has sent him searching for ghosts in the unforgiving Mallee desert of Western Australia. Heading north through Kalgoorlie, he attempts to score off old friends from his shearing days on Banjawarn Station. His journey takes an unexpected detour when he discovers an abandoned ten-year-old girl and decides to return her to her estranged father in Leonora, instead of alerting authorities. Together they begin the road trip from hell through the scorched heart of the state’s northern goldfields.
