2014-2015 School Year: The campus will serve grades 6th through 12th; The first graduating class from Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at BF Darrell will be during the Spring Semester of the 2014—2015 school year. Student Requirements:

Commitment to their personal growth, rigorous academic engagement and leadership development engagement

Saturday Academy (2nd Saturday of the month)

Three Semester Year (Summer Enrichment)

Uniform Campus

Complete Digital Portfolios (MS and HS)

Community Service Projects

Participation in at least two extracurricular activities and/or clubs

Attendance during designated College Tours and Fairs

“The School of Today for Tomorrow’s Leaders.”

Parent Requirements:

Actively support, encourage and participate at home and school your student’s education

Sign the Parent Covenant of Commitment

Participation in all Parent Conferences and Parent Activities

Sponsor and/ or support at least two school events, extracurricular activities or clubs (i.e. PTSA, SBDM, Booster Club, Teacher Appreciation Week, Chaperone, Community Service Supporter, etc.)

Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at BF Darrell was developed under the guidance of Ms. Shirley Ison—Newsome, Executive Director of the Southeast Learning Community. The campus will prepare young men for manhood within a small learning environment with an emphasis on the development of their skills for leadership and service. Mission Statement: Develop young men into impactful leaders through the development of their Intellectual, Moral, Physical., Social, and Emotional skills for the global society of tomorrow. Middle School (6th—8th) Middle School students can expect to experience Accelerated Math courses. Students will focus on writing and thinking skills, and will engage in a broad range of literature as well as development of their oral language skills. All students will take Latin as their Foreign Language of study. Additionally, every student will be assigned to an Advisor/Mentor to guide their academic, social and emotional development. Upper School (9th—12th)

Upper School students can expect to continue the acceleration of their core content classes. Upon entry, students will select their foreign language track: either Spanish or Mandarin. Upper School students will continue the development of their oral language and debate skills, written skills, thinking skills and engagement in rigorous courses of study. In collaboration with their counselor and advisors; students will be aligned with a College / Career Counselor to explore their future aspirations beyond their undergraduate/ graduate studies.

All Grade Levels:

All students in the Middle and Upper School tracks are expected to complete the identified tracks of Community Service each year. Graduation requirements will include the maintenance of a Digital Portfolio to technologically infuse academic projects. Presentations to be given at the end of the 8th and 12th grade years to meet campus graduation requirements.
