Foundation Degree in

International Hospitality Management Opportunities in the international hospitality industry are endless with the total contribution of travel and tourism to the global economy estimated at over $9 trillion.* With the right qualification, you could work in the hotel, cruise, events, tourism or contract catering industries - so if you want to go far and make a real impact, then the University of Bolton’s FdSc International Hospitality Management, delivered by Bolton College, is the place to begin. This two-year programme is strongly vocational with an international focus, giving you the knowledge, skills and attributes to become an effective and ethical hospitality manager. You’ll learn from hospitality specialists who are actively involved in research that informs the industry’s future. • You’ll gain vital experience using our in-house training kitchens. • You can develop your practical skills and knowledge by working in the College’s bistro and restaurants, open to the general public. • You’ll build your experience further at Level 5 through a 300-hour real-world work placement external to the College. • We’ll help you build a network of professional contacts, bolstering your CV and enhancing your employability. • Once you’ve completed the foundation degree, you’ll have the opportunity to top-up your qualification to an honours degree by studying our final year BSc (Hons) International Hospitality Management (top-up) course. Furthermore, we’ll encourage you to build the sought-after transferable, professional and academic skills that will impress potential employers and support your career progression.

Case Study Lyall Mew Construction Multi-Skills ‘I chose this course because I work as a School Caretaker so being able to do a bit of everything is really useful; in fact, I’ve used a lot of the skills I’ve learned already. That’s why this course is brilliant; you sample a bit of everything - Plastering, Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery and Painting & Decorating – so you can see what you enjoy then, if you want to, you can take it further by progressing to a course that focuses on just one trade.’

Case Study Nasser Raee Employability Courses ‘I’m currently retired and I decided that I wanted to gain skills that would get me back into work, either paid of voluntary. I speak a few languages and I’ve travelled the world, so I chose a Community Interpreting course to utilise these skills. I’m inexperienced with computers, so I’m also doing a basic IT course. The tutors are excellent, they explain everything thoroughly, and these qualifications are going to help me get back on the jobs market.’

Case Study Electrical & Electronic Engineering HND From Triple Distinctions to HNDs Bolton College’s engineering department has an outstanding reputation which continues to grow, thanks to the success of its remarkable learners. After achieving triple distinctions on their Level 3 engineering programme – the highest grades possible - Simbarashe Dhandinda, James Snelson, Lewis Aston and Kade Walmsley (pictured left to right) could have progressed to a university of their choice. Instead, they were so impressed with their College experience that they decided to stay on and complete their Higher Education qualification in the College’s STEM Centre. James said: ‘It just made sense because the College’s engineering department is one of the best in the country, so why would I go anywhere else when this is on my doorstep?!’ www.boltoncollege.ac.uk

How to Apply and Enrol Our brand new online application and enrolment service makes joining a course at Bolton College even easier and, once you have your own Learner Hub account, you can use it to check on the progress of your applications and enrolments. To join one of our courses from the comfort of your own home 24/7, follow the simple guide below. If you need help enrolling, please use our live chat service available from any of our website pages. Visit our website and read all about the course you are interested in. Courses are grouped together by subject so you can read about, and compare, all the options on offer. You’ll find the website link for each subject area on the course listings page of this guide. Here’s an example of the link you need to click on or type in to your search browser:

Once you have decided on the course you would like to study (don’t forget to read the entry requirements to ensure that your chosen course is suitable for you) click the yellow button on the right of your screen to either ‘Apply’ or ‘Enrol’.

If the ‘Apply’ button is showing – this means you need to speak to a member of staff before you can enrol. Use the ‘Apply’ button to create your Bolton College Learner Hub account and fill in an application form. You should only need to do this bit once. We will communicate with you by email and text so please enter your mobile number and email address carefully. Once we have your application form, we will text you with a link to book a telephone interview. If the ‘Enrol’ button is showing – you can enrol straight away. Use the ‘Enrol’ button to create your new Bolton College Learner Hub account or log into your existing account and then click through the screens to complete your enrolment. See next page for more information on enrolling.

78

Creating your Bolton College Learner Hub account It is easy to create your Learner Hub account once you see this page:

Simply click on ‘Create an Account’ and answer the questions. If you already have a Learner Hub account, log in using your username and password. Don’t worry if you forget your password, just click ‘Forgot your password’ and enter your username or the email address you used to set up your account. Then, follow the link in your password reset email.

Enrolling on to a course Once your Learner Hub account is set up, you are ready to enrol and pay (if appropriate). Work your way through the screens, filling in the details carefully. We will ask you questions about your: Name, address and contact details, residency status, employment status, existing qualifications and equality and diversity. If you don’t pay your course fees, you’ll need to tell us why. You will also need to upload evidence if you are asked to (it’s just like uploading a picture to Facebook or WhatsApp). Once you have answered these questions you will need to: • Read and confirm you understand our terms and conditions • Pay your fees (if appropriate) and submit your enrolment

Top tips! 1) Before applying/enrolling we would suggest you have some information ready so that you can upload it when you are asked to including, (where applicable) evidence of your benefits or wages, your National Insurance number and your proof of residency. If you pay for your courses you will also need a credit or debit card. 2) You can save your application/enrolment at any stage, but you must return to complete it within 4 hours of starting or you may need to start again. To return to your Learner Hub homepage visit: www.bit.ly/LearnerHub 3) If you have any problems applying for, or enrolling on to, a course you can contact a member of staff via our live chat service accessed by visiting any of our website pages - www.boltoncollege.ac.uk
