PRESCHOOL (WALKING-AGE 5) ART â&#x20AC;&#x201C; PARENT/CHILD CLAY CLASS FOR CREATIVE KIDS

STORIES THAT COME ALIVE AGES 2.5-5 Mom, dad, or grandparent, bring your child to the Art Center for a shared time of fun activities. This class includes art projects all centered around special stories for children.

ART START

AGES 2.5-5 Know the thrill of creating with clay! During this fun class, parents and children will make plates, figures, vases and wall hangings. Students will decorate and glaze all of their one-of-a-kind clay creations.

AGES 2.5-5 W ant to get your young person started in art? Then this class is for you! Preschoolers will get introduced to all kinds of fun art projects using a variety of materials such as clay, paint, textiles, pastels and much more.

AGES 2.5-5 Parents and children will each create extra special holiday crafts using a variety of materials that your family will cherish for years to come.

ICE HOCKEY GOAL!

Hockey Learn to Play The focus and goal of the Hockey Learn to Play curriculum is to teach beginner hockey players the fundamentals of skating. It is important for these developing players to become comfortable on the ice, learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and how to hold a stick before moving into a 6U or 8U full hockey curriculum. Players need to be able to participate in class independently from parent. Scholarships are available for these classes.

HOCKEY LEARN TO PLAY 1 (H1) AGES 4-8 P layers will learn how to sit on ice and stand up, proper stance, march forward, forward two-foot glide, dip, squat, scooter pushes, T-push, forward swizzles, snowplow stop and backwards skating. Full equipment required. Idaho IceWorld will provide rental equipment at no additional charge. Helmet must be provided by skater. No sticks allowed.

AGES 4-8 Players will learn one-foot snowplow stop, introduce hips with Â¼ turn twist to hockey stop, full strides using 45-degree V-Push, shuffle stride, backwards hustle, backward C-Cuts, power pushes, backward outside edge glide, forward C-Cuts, C-push glide, forward outside and inside edges, gliding 2 foot turn and lateral Crossover March. Classes will be structured following USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) Program. Full equipment required. Idaho IceWorld will provide rental equipment at no additional charge. Helmet and stick must be provided by skater.

AGES 4-8 Pre-requisite requirement: mastery of Hockey Learn to Play 3 (H3) skills. Class includes on-ice coaching instruction and scrimmages. Full hockey equipment is required. Player must provide his/her own helmet and stick.

ICE SKATING ICE SKATING – Learn to Skate AGES 2-12 Recognized by Learn to Skate USA as a Top 10 program in the country, Idaho IceWorld’s Learn to Skate program provides a fun and structured way for skaters to be physically active and improve their skills under the professional eyes of certified instructors. We have group classes for all levels and ages. Check out the curriculum for each level at learntoskateusa.com.

All students of Idaho IceWorld’s Learn to Skate program must be current members of our governing body, Learn to Skate USA. With your annual $16 membership in the best skating program, endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speedskating, you will receive access to loads of information, secondary accident insurance and be able to participate in lessons, performances and competitions associated with Learn to Skate USA. AGES 4-12 All Learn to Skate students who register for BOTH the Sept/ Oct and Nov/Dec sessions are eligible to participate in the annual Ice Show co-produced by Idaho IceWorld and the Boise Figure Skating Club. Practices will be every Monday, Sept. 23-Dec. 2, with Nov. 25 off. Adult and Teen group will practice before each Tuesday class. Two additional mandatory rehearsals will be scheduled.

PERFORMING ARTS/DANCE BALLET, JAZZ & CHEER COMBO AGES 3.5-5 T his is the perfect class for those who just want to have fun moving and performing with music, but just aren’t sure how! Participants will begin learning the basics of ballet, jazz and cheer. A short performance may be given on the last day to show off what we have learned. Participants will need to come ready to move and have a great time, no special shoes or clothing required!

BALLET – Musical AGES 3.5-5 T his fun introduction to dance and ballet is great for boys and girls alike! Through basic steps, terminology, creative movement, storytelling dances and ballet we will encourage creativity, coordination and self-esteem.

BOOGIE BABIES PARENT/ TODDLER ADULT + CHILD (WALKING-AGE 3) Parents and toddlers will love exploring movement and music together in this class! Toddlers will be introduced to a classroom setting in a fun and welcoming way. They will develop motor skills, begin learning how to follow directions and interact with others, and of course, there’ll be a whole lot of boogieing going on! This class encourages little ones to move freely and expressively. Parents and toddlers should wear AGE ADULT + CHILD (Walking-Age 3)

MOVE IT! AGES 3.5-5 Boys and girls will have a blast moving to the music in this class! Come learn basic dance steps, terminology and explore your own creative movement styles through imaginative music and games in a fun positive environment. BOISE URBAN GARDEN SCHOOL SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS AND LESSONS COST: $30/CLASS/HOUR Boise Urban Garden School (BUGS) offers field trips and outreach lessons for pre-K through 6th grade. Lessons are interactive, inquiry-based and correlate to Idaho Curriculum Standards. We provide thematic lessons at our garden site located at 2995 N. Five Mile Road in Boise, or come into your classroom. Through the outdoor garden classroom and activities, students connect with nature, science and the source of their food. AGES 4-17 Players will learn one-foot snowplow stop, introduce hips with Â¼ turn twist to hockey stop, full strides using 45-degree V-Push, shuffle stride, backwards hustle, backward C-Cuts, power pushes, backward outside edge glide, forward C-Cuts, C-push glide, forward outside and inside edges, gliding 2 foot turn and lateral Crossover March. Classes will be structured following USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) Program. Full equipment required. Idaho IceWorld will provide rental equipment at no additional charge. Helmet and stick must be provided by skater.

AGES 4-17 Players will learn how to sit on ice and stand up, proper stance, march forward, forward two-foot glide, dip, squat, scooter pushes, T-push, forward swizzles, snowplow stop and backwards skating. PERFORMING ARTS BALLET – Beginner

Modern Dance

AGES 6-8 This class will introduce new dancers to the basics and beginning techniques of traditional ballet while continuing to build on those techniques with returning students. Whether this is your first ballet class or a continuation, this class will keep you on your toes with fun, expressive movements and age appropriate music.

Modern Dance cultivates physical coordination and confidence, but also creative expression and problem solving. This helps young girls and boys develop their artistic voices and ability to be creative thinkers in every capacity – academically, socially and artistically.

Max Pham Hip Hop Fund

AGES 6-12 This class follows a more traditional ballet class structure, focusing on increasing strength, flexibility and coordination while continuing to learn new fundamentals and ballet terminology. Beginners may join class with instructor approval.

We are proud to present the Max Pham Hip Hop Fund! Cost for each hip hop class has been reduced by $5 thanks to a generous donation from Max Pham. Max grew up honing his dance skills at Fort Boise and now he is proud to work with some of the top performers in the world including Justin Timberlake. He often comes back to host workshops in Boise. AGES 6-9 Modern 1 takes 1st-3rd grade dancers through a full body BrainDance warm-up that includes technique, rhythm and choreography. Across the floor combinations provide repetition to master dance skills. Students will begin learning inversions and floor work and experimenting with fall and recover, strength vs. release, and weight vs. suspension. Further exploration of space, time and force will happen through learning choreography and opportunities for students to create their own movement.

SPORTS/FITNESS MARTIAL ARTS – Karate Shotokan Mixed Level AGES 6-12 Learn traditional Shotokan Karate including; dojo etiquette, warm-up, Kishon, Katas and Kumite. Class will focus on Kihon or basic techniques (blocks, punches, kicks and stances) and Katas or prearrange forms (formal exercise) and Kumite or sparring as student’s progress. Instructor Alvin A. Sablan started his training with Shotokan Karate of America in 1983. He is a Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) and is an active member of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA). He was awarded Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in 1986 and Nidan in 2014 by Mr. Tsutomu Ohshima (founder and Shihan of SKA). For Adult (13+) Martial Arts see page 36.

AGES 6-12 Explore the single-track trails and learn the skills on proper equipment responsibility, technical riding skills, safety and respect for others and the sport of cycling. Topics include safety and communication, trail etiquette and technical riding skills.

MOUNTAIN BIKE – Adult/Child Trailblazer ADULT + CHILD (AGES 6-8) Mountain biking classes for kids and parents! Three evenings of riding bikes as a family, exploring singletrack trails and learning skills for proper bike riding, safety, respect for others and the sport of cycling. Topics include safety and communication, trail etiquette and technical riding skills.

TENNIS – Rallies

AGES 9-12 Mountain biking for the experienced rider. Taught by local experts, this class covers all aspects of mountain biking. This camp is meant to increase participants’ abilities to ride more often, safely and take on more difficult trails and riding challenges. Riders signing up for this class must have completed a Beginner/ Trailblazer Youth Cycling Program and ride with more confidence as compared to a beginner rider, or receive prior approval to join from the instructor.

AGES 8-11+ This class is for both beginner and intermediate players ready to play on a slightly larger court. The classes are designed to continue building athletic skills while learning or refining the skills necessary to serve, rally and score. Players will learn an understanding of proper technique and maintain that technique during point and match play.

TENNIS – Adult/Child ADULT + CHILD (AGES 5-12) Parents will be taught beginner skills while children are being taught separately. Proper technique is emphasized along with racquet control, cooperation and movement. Lessons are incorporated into fun games to help children stay focused and interested while learning to play. (Only register child and provide guardian’s name at time of registration).

Each class will cover the STEM behind a different sport/recreation activity. Learning the how, what, why, when and where behind their activities helps youth become more mentally and physically engage in their play. And when STEM education is put into action it makes the associated education concepts more intriguing and exciting.

STEM – Code On! AGES 8-12 Young learners will focus on the fundamentals of computer science (coding) with Scratch. Scratch is a programming language and an online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games and animation. As children create with Scratch they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively and reason systematically. HOMESCHOOL ZOO (Kindergarten-8th grade) AGES 5-13 The Homeschool Zoo program series provides a unique learning experience for students schooled at home. The course consists of classroom discussion, laboratory activities, animal encounters and specialized zoo tours. Classes will align with Idaho State Science Standards and focus on topics and principles based on grade level. Themes will emphasize looking at animal groups and taxonomy, adaptations, habitats and ecology. Each individual household must register their child for the class. Kids only! Please bring a small snack for a 15 minute break during class.

AGES 7-18 Recognized by Learn to Skate USA as a Top 10 program in the country, Idaho IceWorld’s Learn to Skate program provides a fun and structured way for skaters to be physically active and improve their skills under the professional eyes of certified instructors. More information on page 7.

GOLF LESSONS – Warm Springs AGES 7-13 All classes will cover full-swing, stance, grip, short game, chipping and putting and are open to any skill level, from beginning to advanced. Lessons will include on-course instruction. Golf clubs are available at no cost to students.

ICE SHOW CAST AGES 7-18 All Learn to Skate students who register for BOTH the Sept/Oct and Nov/Dec sessions are eligible to participate in the annual Ice Show co-produced by Idaho IceWorld and the Boise Figure Skating Club. More information on page 7.

ICE HOCKEY Ages 9-17 Beginner hockey players will learn the fundamentals of skating. It is important for these developing players to become comfortable on the ice, learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and how to hold a stick before moving into a 6U or 8U full hockey curriculum. Players need to be able to participate in class independently from parent. Scholarships are available for these classes. For class description, see page 16.

Dance Our performing arts is an ongoing learning experience that helps enhance strength, flexibility and coordination, all while having a tremendous amount of fun in a friendly environment! Students may join class at any time during the following sessions. Our annual Spring Review Dance Recitals are tentatively set for May 2 at Timberline High School. HIP HOP AGES 12-17 Hip hop is a fun, high-energy style of dance. This class will focus on choreography as well as fun new moves. These classes are for beginner and experienced students and anyone else seeking to keep up their skills.

DRAWING – All Levels Drawing uses the simplest tools and is the most basic of the art forms, yet it can also be the most intimidating. Students will improve both drawing and observation skills by learning about the fundamentals of line, shape, value, perspective and proportion. This is a fun, low-pressure, relaxing class: no experience (or drawing ability) is required!

PAINTING, ACRYLIC/OIL/ WATERCOLOR – Level II

Botanical drawing is an introduction to the principles of drawing from life. We will work on creating value and texture, framing a solid composition, building color and using the traditional materials used by botanical illustrators... pencil, colored pencils and watercolor. Specimens include fall leaves, harvest fruits and other autumnal delicacies. All skill levels welcome. All materials provided.

ENAMELING –Beginning Vitreous enameling, defined as fusing glass to metal using high temperatures, is an ancient art dating back to the 13th century B.C. Students will explore a variety of techniques to create small and lovely works of art. A supply kit is included in the cost of the class. Additional materials may need to be purchased.

ENAMELING – Open Studio The enameling open studio gives people with previous experience the opportunity to follow their own interests and work on projects of

their own design. Enameling teacher will be on hand to set up the studio, answer questions and assist students as needed. Students must provide their own enamels. Group orders of supplies will be made as needed and a complete supply kit is available for $40.

Beginning students will learn the basics of acrylic painting, including techniques of color, composition, texture and layering. A variety of styles and subject matter such as still-life, landscape, portrait and abstraction will be explored.

This course is designed for painters who have previously taken an oil, watercolor or acrylic painting course. A variety of styles in your medium will be explored and the instructor will be available to assist with students’ chosen subjects and paintings recommended for the group.

PAINTING, OIL – All Levels Beginners will learn the basics of oil painting. Intermediate/advanced painters will refine their skills in traditional techniques such as underpainting, glazing and alla prima painting. No prior experience is necessary.

PASTELS – All Levels Beginners will learn the basics of hard and soft pastels, the types of papers and surfaces available and many of the styles used by pastel artists today. Intermediate/advanced students will refine their skills and learn new techniques through a variety of fun and challenging projects.

Drawing – All Levels

PHOTOGRAPHY – Camera Functions You too can take better photographs! This beginning class will help make you a more accomplished photographer. Explore the “how to’s” of digital and 35mm photography. Learn shutter speed, depth of field, composition and use of attachments. Instructor will provide a supply list at the first class. Please bring your camera to the first class.

POTTERY – All Levels Beginner potters will learn basic techniques of hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery, along with glazing and firing methods. Students with previous clay experience will have the opportunity to continue to refine their skills of wheel throwing and hand-building. Wheels, glazes and firing services are provided.

Beginning potters will learn basic techniques for hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery along with glazing and firing methods. Wheels, glazes and firing services are provided.

POTTERY – Level II This class is for potters with previous experience. Class focuses on refining skills of throwing on the wheel and developing better hand-building construction techniques. Students also explore advanced techniques of glazing and learn Raku and Cone 10 reduction firing. Wheels, glazes and firings are provided.

POTTERY – Open Lab Open lab sessions are available for potters to work independently on throwing, hand-building or glazing. Fee covers glazes and firing but students must provide clay and tools. Lab is open daily and a schedule will be emailed to customer as well as available at the Art Center.

NEW PROJECT WET HYBRID TEACHER WORKSHOP

Get to know your backyard as the Foothills Learning Center and Idaho Conservation League team up to offer these short hiking “tours” of the city-owned natural reserves.

Create beautiful artwork at the Boise WaterShed! Classes are taught by a team of artists and experts who will explore a science topic while instructing you in an art method to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Light refreshments provided. Class descriptions can be found online at boiseenvironmentaleducation.org.

Through online and in-person learning, participants will walk away with information, lesson plans and motivation to teach about local water issues. Five content areas will be covered: water as a natural resource, earth systems, water management and social and cultural connections. Participants will receive the Project WET Curriculum Guide 2.0, which contains 64 field-tested activities for kindergarten to twelfth grade. One professional development credit is available through BSU for an additional $60. Preand post-assignments are required.

PERFORMING ARTS (18+) DANCE

Information Adult performing arts is an ongoing learning experience helping to enhance strength, flexibility and coordination all while having a tremendous amount of fun in a friendly environment! Our annual Spring Review Dance Recitals are tentatively set for May 2, 2020 at Timberline High School. Additional fees and costuming will be required to participate in the recitals. Participation in the recital is not mandatory. More information to come!

BALLET – Beginning This class is for those who have always dreamed of learning ballet but never had the chance. This unique class will give you the opportunity to enter the world of classical ballet for the first time and from the most basic level. Cheer up and join us! No special clothing required, just come ready to move and dressed comfortably.

BARRE EXERCISE Barre is a fun and empowering dance class set to great music. The ballet barre is used to sculpt the lower body, abs and for flexibility training. In this class we will use full body exercises, light weights and other props. There are modifications and challenges for all levels!

BELLYDANCE Get in shape in a fun and supportive class! Students will develop grace, fluidity and core strength learning this ancient art form. With over 20 years of experience, Adriane provides detailed movement breakdowns that help 32

both beginning and experienced dancers to grow. With a focus on Egyptian-style dance, students will learn basic bellydance technique and combinations that culminate in a final choreography. Come ready to dance in bare feet or dance slippers and bring a yoga mat or towel. A great class to enjoy with a friend or a fun mother and daughter activity!

BROADWAY FOSSE/JAZZ DANCE Claudia Palta brings 20+ years’ experience in stage and instruction to the classroom with this truly unique class that will focus on the Fosse style choreography. Bob Fosse is famous for choreography in musicals like Chicago, Sweet Charity and Cabaret. You will learn original Bob Fosse choreography combined with Broadway Style jazz! Prior dance experience is not necessary but helpful. Come dressed comfortably and ready to move. No special shoes required.

FLAMENCO Class time will be spent learning basic steps, body positioning and the flow of arm/hand movement. As class progresses we will work on percussive steps and brazeo (arms) and how to coordinate them into a short dance piece. Through a fiery Flamenco song list, we will keep our focus on dancing for fun while building self-confidence and coordination. Dance experience or not, this class is perfect for learning and exploring a new culture. No partner needed! N E W MODERN DANCE AGES 9+ “What?!” you say, “Kids and adults dancing together?” Yes! This class provides 3rd grade - adult dancers with a dynamic and engaging movement experience. The class offers a great balance of technique, improvisation and choreography. Students will have opportunities to create their own movement, helping them develop their creative voices and feel empowered in their bodies.

There are many different styles of Swing dancing, but this class will focus on the Swing dance that started it all…Lindy Hop! This dance was created in the late 1920s as a variation on the Charleston. Named after Charles Lindberg and his famous ‘Hop’ over the Atlantic, the Lindy Hop was danced to the Big Bands of the 30s and 40s.

ICE HOCKEY LEAGUE – Beginner Adult Our goal is to provide a positive, fun, safe learning environment for adults learning to play the great game of hockey. The program is designed to teach the fundamental skills required to play, with a heavy focus on learning proper skating skills. This is a 60-minute class. No skating experience expected.

ICE SKATING – Learn To Skate Adult (Beginners – Free Skate 6) AGES 19+ Recognized by Learn to Skate USA as a Top 10 program in the country, Idaho IceWorld’s Learn to Skate program provides a fun and structured way for skaters to be physically active and improve their skills under the professional eyes of certified instructors. MARTIAL ARTS – Karate Shotokan Mixed Level AGES 13+ Learn traditional Shotokan Karate including; dojo etiquette, warm-up, Kihon, Katas and Kumite. Class will focus on Kihon or basic techniques (blocks, punches, kicks and stances) and Katas or prearrange forms (formal exercise) and Kumite or sparring as students progress. Instructor Alvin A. Sablan started his training with Shotokan Karate of America in 1983. He is a Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) and an active member of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA). He was awarded Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in 1986 and Nidan in 2014 by Mr. Tsutomu Ohshima (founder and Shihan of SKA). For Youth Martial Arts see page 20.

THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES, HOWEVER, EVERYONE IS WELCOME.

CAMPS WINTER BREAK CAMP PROGRAMS & SERVICES Boise Parks and Recreation’s AdVenture program provides a wide range of programs for youth and adults with disabilities. We also offer inclusion services in which modifications may be provided so that an individual with a disability can fully participate in Boise Parks and Recreation’s programs. Services, such as sign language interpreters, additional staff, adaptive equipment, etc. can be provided with at least two weeks advanced notice of the program start date with no cost to the participant. To inquire about inclusion services, please contact Emily Kovarik at 208-608-7680 (TTY: 1-800-377-3529) or ekovarik@cityofboise.org. Reasonable modifications are based on individuals’ needs and abilities. More information is available at cityofboise.org/adaptive-recreation. PARTICIPANT PERSONAL NEEDS The adaptive recreation staff and volunteers provide leadership for the program but are unable to provide assistance with selfcare needs (feeding, toileting assistance, etc.). AGES 15+ J oin us for a scavenger hunt through a different park each week while getting a good workout. We will walk for just over an hour. The club is designed for individuals with disabilities who enjoy being outdoors, getting exercise and who can stay with the group. The activity includes transportation from Fort Boise Community Center to the trails and back and will be held rain or shine.

ART – Adaptive  AGES 15+ T his is the perfect class for participants with disabilities to explore several different forms of art ranging from pottery, drawing, painting and much more! The fee includes instruction and supplies.

COOKING CLASS  AGES 15+ H elp prepare meals that we will eat together as a group. We will improve our cooking skills, socialize with friends and take part in clean-up duties. FITNESS CLASS  AGES 15+ Join our adaptive fitness class and work on stretching, weight lifting and aerobic activity. This is a great opportunity for individuals of all fitness levels to get fit in a supportive, fun and social environment.

MUSIC CLASS  AGES 12+ Learn about music in this fun, hands on class! Students will have the opportunity to play a variety of percussion instruments, drums, sing and more. This activity is designed for individuals who have disabilities and no music experience is needed.

SOCIAL CLUBS AGES 18+ T hese clubs are ideal social opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. Outings include bowling, sporting events, dinner and a movie and more! This popular tournament is a four-person scramble, limited to 15 teams. Participants will play nine holes of golf and then break for a delicious dinner. After dinner, everyone may golf 4-5 holes with glowin-the-dark golf equipment! The cost is $70 per person, which includes green fees, cart for the first nine holes, night equipment and dinner. A silent auction will be held during the tournament with proceeds going towards Boise Parks and Recreation’s AdVenture program, which provides recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. AGES 16+ Learn about local birds of prey and if the weather allows, watch the flight show at the World Center for Birds of Prey. We will socialize over lunch before seeing the birds.

AGES 18+ J oin AdVenture at two separate Arc Inc. dances. In October, dress up in your best costume for the Halloween Dance and in December, celebrate the holiday season at the Holiday Ball. Before the dance we will go out to dessert.

CERAMICA & LUNCH AGES 16+ During this fun activity we will get creative at Ceramica where we will paint a piece of pottery and then go out to lunch. AGES 16+ Visit the unique and beautiful ‘Cleo’s Nature Trail’ near Melba, Idaho. This whimsical garden has mostly paved trails which wind through the variety of outdoor art exhibits, ponds and unique gardens. Before exploring the gardens, we will go out to lunch.

AGES 16+ T his program is very similar to the Adaptive Bike Ride (see previous description), however, at this activity we will have a picnic after the ride.

DINNER AND A MOVIE AGES 18+ E njoy dinner and a movie on these fun evening outings! At dinner, we will pick a movie (rated G to PG-13) to watch as a group. Meet at Fort Boise Community Center (FBCC) at 5 p.m. or you can meet us at the restaurant at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the evening includes transportation from FBCC to activities and back, dinner and the movie.

CORN MAZE ADVENTURE

ADAPTIVE EXTENDED BIKE RIDE & PICNIC 

AGES 16+ Navigate your way through an elaborate maze cut through a local corn field. Before taking a journey through the corn maze we will grab a bite to eat. Participants must be able to stay with the group.

Participants must have the ability to sit quietly through a two-hour play. In September we will see the comedy/mystery Clue, in November the comedy Casserole and in December the musical Annie. The December play is for all audiences and the other two are designed for audiences age 13 and older.

THREE ISLAND CROSSING TRIP AGES 16+ V isit the beautiful Three Island Crossing State Park and learn about the history of the area and the Oregon Trail. Tour the History Center, eat a picnic lunch, play disc golf and check out the birds. Please be ready for an active day of exploring.

ZOO & DINNER AGES 16+ C heck out the cool animals at Zoo Boise! After our trip to the Zoo, we will socialize over dinner. Participants must be able to stay with the group.

GOALBALL AGES 15+ Learn to play Goalball, a Paralympic Sport which is designed for individuals who have visual impairments. Join us to learn the rules and play some fast-paced games. Participants younger than 18 may enroll but must be accompanied by an adult.

SATURDAY BEST – For Youth with Visual Impairments AGES 5-15 Boise Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the National Federation of the Blind, is offering the BEST Saturday Club (Braille Enrichment and Skills Training) the second Saturday of the month featuring braille reading/writing and a different recreation activity or field trip. This program is designed for elementary age youth with visual impairments.

WATERSHED WATCH – October 5, 10A-12P Be a water quality scientist for a day and diagnose the health of the Boise River! No experience is needed to participate. Individuals and groups are assigned locations throughout the watershed from Lucky Peak to Parma, and a trained expert will lead the group in monitoring activities. Get your feet wet by using the water testing kits or searching for the water bugs that call the Boise River their home. All ages are welcome. Birds are found in nearly every city setting, from urban microparks to the sprawling foothills that border our northeastern edge. Birds visit backyard feeders, perch in low shrubs and on tall structures, swim in our river, lakes and ponds, nest in our trees and soar overhead. A variety of Boise’s habitats attract and support hundreds of species, and we invite you to explore some of the area’s most common birds. The Field Guide to Boise’s Birds is available free online. BOISE DEPOT The Boise Depot is a unique venue for weddings, parties, corporate and fundraising events. A beautiful historic Spanish-style structure the Depot was opened in 1925 to elaborate fanfare in the capital city. The Great Hall is a 3,542-square-foot space with a soaring multi-story atrium and once served as the building’s waiting room. The original 1925 Barkalow Brothers Newsstand has been slightly restored and is featured on the west wall. With a splendid panoramic view of the Boise Front, the grounds include Platt Gardens, a lovely park with pathways, a gazebo and ponds. The Great Hall may be reserved 11 months in advanced. Idaho IceWorld is Idaho's premier indoor family ice skating and entertainment center. We offer adult and youth hockey leagues, figure skating programs, Learn-ToSkate and Learn-To-Play Hockey programs and public skating sessions. Full payment is required prior to enrollment. Registrations cannot be accepted from participants with past due balances. Do not mail cash. Returned checks are subject to a $20 handling fee. REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY

We depend on your enrollment for a successful class! Please plan your schedule carefully. Classes which do not meet minimum enrollment are subject to cancellation. In the case of a cancellation, please contact Fort Boise Community Center at 208-608-7680. Refunds are issued: • In full if the class or program is canceled. • Minus a $15 processing fee if you cancel at least ten calender days before the starting date of the class. Choose from these three options: 1. Transfer to another class 2. Credit your account 3. Receive a refund, allow 3-4 weeks for processing. Refunds and transfers are not issued: • When requested less than ten calender days before the starting date of the class. • If the fee paid is less than the $15 processing fee. • For team fees after registration ends. • For all team sports player fees. WHO IS A RESIDENT?

Boise residents live within the city limits and pay Boise city taxes. The boundaries that the U.S. Post Office uses and those that determine the city limits are not the same. NON-RESIDENT POLICY

Boise residents directly contribute to the operations of Boise Parks and Recreation Department’s programs and services by payment of their property taxes. The Fair-Share Policy (Non-resident Fee) allocates an additional fee to non-resident users so that they also contribute, on an equitable basis, to the overall financing of the department’s operations. • Partial scholarships are available for youth, seniors and people with disabilities.
