The Chamber Sets the Bars High With This Year's Gala Speaker, Olympian Dominique Dawes by Connor Jay Liess, Boise Metro Chamber While it may not be four years in the making, the Boise Metro Chamber has been hard at work training for its biggest event of the year — the annual gala. And this year's keynote speaker is sure to wow this year's audience and will be a golden opportunity to hear from an Olympic superstar. Dominique Dawes is best known for her tremendous success as a three-time Olympic gymnast (1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta, and 2000 Sydney). Dawes won four Olympic medals and was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Committee Hall of Fame. As a member of the 1996 Atlanta Games “Magnificent Seven,” she won a bronze medal in the floor exercise, becoming the first female African American gymnast to win an individual medal, as she and her team won the all-around gold medal. Dominique is committed to helping today’s girls realize their full potential and has teamed up with Girl Scouts of the USA to launch “Uniquely Me! The Girl Scout Self-Esteem Program.” A mother of four young kids, she empowers and inspires audiences through her transparent and emotionally captivating speeches. In addition, comedian and entertainer Greg Schwem will emcee the event on October 19th at the Boise Centre.
