Get to know this year's keynote speaker and world-traveling television host, Samantha Brown

W

e're just under a week away from our 136th Annual Gala, and by now you've probably heard the news that PBS and Travel Channel's own Samantha Brown will be gracing the stage on October 10th as our keynote speaker. We could not be more excited!

To travel the world, eat and drink at some of the world's most unique and exquisite eateries, and captivate thousands with the stories of such adventures is a dream for many, one that Samantha has been living out for the last 30 years. Her career as a television travel host happened by accident, she claims. A producer spotted her work in a commercial and recommended her to the Travel Channel in 1999 to audition for a new show being developed called “Great Vacation Homes”.

Now, spanning 17 years, Samantha has traveled around the world visiting over 250 cities in 62 countries and 40 of the United States, creating over 160 hours of programming (and counting). After all of that traveling she reluctantly accepts her title as a travel expert, preferring jokingly the more humble title of Travel Goddess. She calls herself an airport geek and enjoys her time spent in them (unlike everyone else in the world). Once in an airport, she loves to check the large departure board for where people are traveling to. Even just seeing the names of exotic destinations like Istanbul, Casablanca, and Jaipur (and perhaps Boise, Idaho!) make her want to travel more.
