Data Centers: The Key to Idaho's High-Tech Industry At last year’s Legislative Forum, David Maahs of the Des Moines Chamber, reviewed how data centers (information infrastructure) are important for the high-tech industry in Iowa. Idaho could attract data centers because of our low electricity rates and lack of natural disasters.

This month, we are thrilled to introduce Jeremy Judd as our featured member. We asked Jeremy a few questions about himself and what it's like working at one of the country's most successful retail stores, Macy's. Here's what he had to say: What is your favorite hobby or thing to do during the weekend?

Camping in the Sawtooth Mountains What is the best advice you've received?

The best advice I've received is the power of listening. Be present — listen to learn, not to respond, and gauge your audience. Something as simple as turning off your monitor or saying "Thank you for sharing with me" can go a long way and means a lot.

Who is a local business or business person you admire?

Josh LeBlanc, of the Paradies Shops at the Boise Airport, has been a local leader that has supported my career over the years. We worked together previously, and I have always admired his commitment to communication and connecting with people.

What do you enjoy most about your company or organization?

What I enjoy most about Macy's is how community-minded we are, not just with our assortment of fashion and home goods but how we make an impact outside our store walls.

what Macy's does to support the broader community as well. National, iconic statements like the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks, flower shows, and most recently the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade are pillars of what Macy's community-minded focus informs. Even locally, participating in the Chamber in many ways, partnerships with the Idaho Food Bank, Make-a-Wish, the YMCA, LLS, Go Red for Women, United Way, and many others are all ways our local Macy's store contributes positively to the lives of our colleagues and shoppers; and I get to lead those efforts which is so rewarding and humbling.

SNOWMAKING AT BOGUS BASIN: ASSURING THE FUTURE OF A LOCAL GEM After obtaining water rights and completing a $6.3 million capital fundraising campaign, Bogus Basin is now home to Idaho’s second largest snowmaking system. The system includes a 13-million gallon retention pond and 24 fully automated fan guns that will move from trail to trail, providing top to bottom coverage. The introduction of snowmaking will help ensure that a portion of the mountain is open for recreation, regardless of natural snowfall, by mid-December. And it’s working!

On December 6th, Bogus Basin opened earlier than scheduled for the 2018-19 season, due in part to snowmaking.
