CHAPTER THREE
a program that invests in it’s future...
welcome Welcome to Chapter 3 of the W2 Land & Cattle Bull Sale held once again on the farm in our heated sale/calving barn. Once again would like to welcome Wallgren Farms who will bring a strong set of yearling bulls to the sale. As always we can’t thank our customers enough for the faith they have put in our programs. We have worked really hard at advancing our programs and the proof is in the pudding. No doubt our strongest set of bulls to date, cliché I know, but when you go through the bulls I’m sure you will agree. Like everyone we too have felt the stresses of 2020, but the one thing we do know is we are in the right business for the times. Sure it might mean a trip or two less to town, but like they say “when you ain’t earnin it your spendin it”. On sale day we will be adhering to provincial guidelines for COVID. Sanitation stations, etc. will be around and we will do our best to keep everyone safe and comfortable. For the first time in a few years the family didn’t grow by a kid, but instead by a Bernese Mountain dog named Rosy. The kids love her and she seems to like our hectic schedule so all is good in W2 Land. Marley (6) is in grade 1, Cash (4) and Jaycee (3) both go to pre-school and Merit (1) spends his time looking at Sale Catalogues and chasing his siblings around. Jenna continues to sell Pioneer canola and corn seed off the farm and walk a few fields in the summer for customers. Kelly spends most of his time with the cows but does takes a short break to seed some corn in May for people in the area. Our calving crew then consists of 4 kids, a busy wife and some good breeding decisions to get us through the month. The cow herd is kind of where we would like it now as far as size goes and as far as grass available for us goes. We are calving around 170 head of mostly purebred cows, the small number of commercial cows usually get an embryo put in them. As you will see in the catalogue we have 3 embryo bulls this year and that number will continue to grow as our ET program has really grown to where we are annually putting in 30-40 eggs/year. We still calve the bulk of our herd in April/May, but we have increased our early program to around 45 head now, mainly to have some females to offer each fall. With that increased number of early calves we obviously have some bull calves and for the first time we have decided to offer a couple of those bull calves through the sale as yearlings. These bulls are pretty special we think and a great representation of what our cows can do as far weaning weights. Our calves get no creep and that holds true for the early calvers. Their weights come weaning time are purely based on mommas milk and green grass. Now about the rest of the bulls on offer… We love them! We truly think this is our deepest set and bulls made for the commercial cattleman. Grown out slowly as calves with minimal grain and then put out on grass all summer. We brought the bulls in mid October this year where they were put on their corn silage ration. We think these are bulls that will last and will go out and breed an extra 10 cows that first year. With the changing times we understand some of you will not be able or would prefer not to come sale day. Come by the farm anytime and have a look, a coffee and talk cows with us. We’re not usually very far away! On sale day ribs are once again on the menu, unless the government tells us otherwise. We can’t wait to show off a really deep set of bulls! The Waltz Family

LOT 1: Every year there is a bull or two that come along that seems to lead the pack. Happy Hour has been one of those bulls from a young age. He sits down on such a big, square foot and gets around the pen effortlessly. When you get behind 4G the natural muscle he exhibits along with the big top really is impressive, just a bull full of red meat, with a big sweeping rib to him. Happy Hour is a transplant calf out of our 9028 Licious donor cow. It doesn’t matter what way we breed this cow it works. On the top side is the famous Captain Scream bull who has several high profile sons working in the industry. Happy Hour 4G is one of the best bulls ever raised at W2 period.

LOT 2: Another ET Calf from our 9028 Licious Donor cow who hails from the popular Westway program. This time out of the breed icon 680S on the top side. The 680S semen is almost non-existent anymore. We have 3 full sib sisters to Fuel 8G working in our herd and all are peas in a pod. The best way we can put it is they are our kind of cows, easy doing, hard milking cows that are built for the long haul. We sold a full brother to this guy to Usenik Ranching last year and he was definitely a favorite of the black pen. Fuel himself is a bull we admire for his natural muscle and the herd bull presence he has exhibited since a young age. A bull that will go out and sire those heavy weight calves each fall.

Like his lot 1 brother a bull that exhibits all sorts of muscle shape to him. A load of steers of him in the fall with weigh down the scales. His dam came from the Hadways in Didsbury as their leadoff and high selling bred the year we selected her out of the Simm Power Sale. Her first calf went through the sale last year to P1 Land & Cattle at Dewberry. She’s a cow that gets picked out in pasture for her beautiful dark red color and how easy doing she is. No matter the time of year she looks great.

Real tidy through that front third, a real deep chest floor with plenty of jam behind him. A bull that would work great on a set of Angus cows. He will put some rib in those calves that’s for sure. His Riddler dam is absolutely the biggest ribbed cow on the place and she’s only coming 4! She did a great job raising this guy on her first try, definitely a cow we think very highly of in our black program.

We sampled Savage on a handful of cows and heifers the first year he was available in Canada and we were very impressed with what we got. Rush 1G is a low set bull who is stout, stout, stout! Probably our candidate for belly dragger of the pen this year. We can’t say enough about the dam who we purchased from Rancier Farms a few years back. Her first calf sold through the Border City Simmental Sale as a feature heifer calf, this is her second and her third sells below as a feature bull for sure. If that’s not some consistency then we don’t know what is.

The Swayze bull has bred heavy for us since acquiring him with Canadian Sires as the leadoff bull out of the R Plus Bull Sale in 2018. His daughters are outstanding and his sons will be favorites in our black pen no doubt. We rank this bull very high and think he is destined to do great things in the industry. Backed by a top cow, big time new sire and this kind of phenotype have us excited about Kingdoms future.

His sons are very easy to pick out in the pen, you could say he stamps them all the same way. Big bellied easy doing cattle who we think the commercial cattleman will love. our April group of cows so I sent the wife and father in law to Wheatland to look at a couple bulls. I won’t tell the whole story in here, but its hilarious and at the end of the day we came away with the Rival bull and after seeing his first calf crop we know he is destined to great things in our program. Hence why we wanted to show off a yearling bull for everyone to see. We think Bad Blood 4H is pretty special. Blood red, huge hipped and super correct describe this bull best. He has been a standout from a very young age. His young dam has done a great job in her short life so far. She has sent a powerful bred to Garth Cutler at Circle G and has had these two maternal brothers that will sell this year. Both sale features for sure.

The Liberator cattle are all so soft made and really convert feed efficiently. The 32G bull I would consider a bit of a calving ease specialist for the Liberator group. Not quite the bone as some of his brothers and a real neat, tucked in front shoulder that I think should consider him a real candidate for a group of second calvers. The 520 cow is a real impressive cow in the flesh, big sweeping rib and has a real look to her just like her son.

LOT 17
It’s important to us as it should be to all bull producers to have cows who are consistently bringing bulls and females that make their way to the replacement pen. The 169 cow has done that for us each and every year. A son sold through our first sale to Kurjata family at St. Walburg, and several sons have sold privately.

LOT 18: If you came for a bull that can go on heifers and you will sleep at night this is your guy. Coming from our popular Mountain sire group who have sold so well for us the last two years. Averaging over $ 7500 on two years worth of sons has made it hard to stop using this bomb proof calving specialist… and probably why he made his way to some heifers again last year at W2. The 26G bull is hairy and has that calving ease head to him. Don’t be fooled though that this Mountain son doesn’t have some jam to him because when you get behind him he has ample muscle and top to make those calves pay come fall time.

LOT 19: This is our oldest daughter Marley’s bull and one she is darn sure proud of, just not of the name dad gave him… Guac as I like to call him comes from Marley’s beloved Salsa cow who is a half Angus, half Simmental baldy. Pretty much all of the commercial cows we run get an embryo, except for the kids cows that Pops and Nana gave to them to get their herds going. When Guac came out with that perfect blazed face we decided he was destined for the bull pen and destined to be Marley’s first sale bull. He is no slouch and quite honestly one of the best bulls in the pen. Being a Mountain bull will ensure that calving ease, but there definitely is some jam to Guacamole and a whole lot to like about this bull.

Her first son we also sold through this sale to Boulder Bottom Stock Farms at Mannville as one of the popular bulls in the black pen that year. This years son comes from our bombproof Mountain bull and he’s impressive. Lots of rib shape and dimension to him, but really sound through that front to calve really well. This will be the first set of sons to sell of his and we are really happy how he has bred. We have a great set of bred heifers out of him that all are very promising. Some of the early bred ones have dropped udders and they look phenomenal. The 20G bull may be the longest spined bull in the whole offering, but with that length still manages to have a real soft soggy look to him that we love at W2. Back in 2019 we were on the search for a new red bull. We put on a lot of miles that spring looking at options and when the dust had settled and $40,000 later we owned Wheatland Rival 8125F. That decision we think may be one of the best we have made as purebred operation to date. We sold one semen pack on the bull on sale day and then took him off the market. We have had multiple inquiries about semen on him, but felt it was best to keep him pretty exclusive… until now! We are offering 5 packs of 10 straws of semen. Rivals first calf crop is exceptional at W2, bulls and heifers. Every single calf stayed on the farm. Wheatland also used him and have nothing, but great things to say about his calves. They used him that first year and then again last year… a pretty strong sign that the bull works. “Rivals first calf crop has exceeded expectations with superior calving ease and incredible phenotype while being extremely dark red. This breeding superstar is backed by one of the best cow families in the breed, we will hear a lot more about Rival and his impact moving forward” – Riley Lafrentz. They say the making of a true herd bull is he outbreeds himself. Rival has done that no doubt. Get in on a bull you are going to hear a lot from this spring we believe. Semen is stored at Bow Valley (Canadian qualified) PAGE 21

It’s always a pleasure working alongside the Waltz family and the great team at Bohrson Marketing Services. Our farm is based just 10 miles north of Edgerton AB. We farm about 1700 acres, and run a small herd of 20 purebred Simmentals that we have slowly built up over the years. We also have roughly 120 commercial cows and we always sell an handful of bred heifers each fall. Our commercial cattle play a big part in our ET program, our embryo program has created a new and fresh lineup of genetics and we always implanted around 15 embryos every spring. Maternal strength runs deep in our program and we strive to build our herd on foundation females that we can build around. This is the 3rd lineup of bulls we’ve had to offer and it’s a group that’s been real fun to watch grow over the last year. Our bulls our fed on a TMR based Bulleyes ration. We feel confident we have assembled a group of bulls that represents the direction our program is headed. Feel free to stop in and have a look at the bulls and cowherd anytime, we would love to show you around, coffee is always on! Don’t hesitate to contact us about any questions about the bulls or anyone at Bohrson Marketing Services for their professional and exceptional assistance in the cattle industry. We would like to thank all of our buyers over the years, your support is greatly appreciated! We look forward to seeing you all sale day on February 23!

They are sired by one of the hottest black bulls on the market, TJSC Boone Pickens, whose progeny have brought great demand over the last few years. On the bottom side, the great LFE Sheila cow that has been very productive for us and many other great operations. We have put in quite a few Sheila embryos the last 2 years, and her progeny last year have consistently been at the top of the pen, and we would say they are at same place this fall. We have 2 full sib heifers that would be at the top of the replacement pen that we are very excited about. Maternal sibs have sold to Russell Froland, Mack Lawson, and Jonah Biensch. 28H is super cool fronted, stylish, huge hipped, very good on profile, and is the kind that will make awesome females. 30H would be the bigger, higher performance, stout, big middled, and big ribbed, and tops it off with that desired blaze face. These 2 are definitely the best ones we have produced and we are undecided between who we like more, so we will let you make that call for yourself.

Calving aa Act. BW 89 Adj. WW 702 LOT 41 This bull has a combination of calving ease and power all stacked up in his pedigree. He is sired by the famous Cobra that has been used heavily in most operations. We love the big foot, impeccable udders and awesome hair Cobra adds to his progeny. His dam is one of the exciting up and coming young females on the farm, and she has done a great job on her first calf. If your looking for a bull to improve udder and foot quality, add hair, bone and structure, this guy checks all those boxes off.

Flawless on the move, sound, tons on hair and middle, and great footed. His sire RF Abundance is definitely the best bull we have ever utilized into our program, his progeny are consistently impressive. His dam was shown successfully as a calf as she was Reserve Senior calf champion at Farmfair, and was Reserve female for Brant at Edgerton 4H show. She is a big easy fleshing cow with lots of body and style, and topping off with a picture perfect udder. We think quite highly of this young prospect and we believe he has a bright Dam: Mader Happy Hour 44D Sire: RF Abundance 655D future ahead.

LOT 44: 40H is super attractive fronted and real neat in his type and design. A real stout, great haired, soggy made Captain Joy son , that has been a real pen favourite. His dam is a productive young female that is just getting started, and would be one of our favourite red cows. A maternal sibling was shown successful last fall and she made a few friends on the show road. This guy combines performance, presence and maternal strength all in one package.

Calving aa Act. BW 92 Adj. WW 835 LOT 46 These brothers are another product from our ET program. These 2 full brothers are some of the bigger performance bulls in the pen. These two are both soggy, powerful, smooth made, long bodied with plenty of bone and foot. Maternal strength does not lack in this pedigree and they go back to the great 16S female that is one of the greatest in the breed. A little twist in the pedigree which makes the options endless. If your looking for bulls with plenty of power and proven maternal strength, backed up in pedigree, then we would recommend taking a closer look at these two.
