Welcome to our first on-farm bull & female sale. This has always been the dream and goal of ours and to see it finally come to fruition leaves us humbled and extremely grateful. After stepping into the purebred Simmental seedstock business approximately 12 years ago, we knew the sale would eventually end up where it all began, at home. Decades prior to branching into the seedstock business, we were solely a commercial cow/calf operation coupled with operating an on-farm feedlot, buying in and backgrounding our own steers. We feel that this gives our purebred operation a unique twist, as we have been around the block on various sides of the cattle industry, giving us a vast scope of understanding about what the industry requires to thrive. We strive to produce the type of cattle that we can utilize within both our commercial and purebred programs. We feel the bulls look their best in their element and we are looking forward to showing you around on sale day and the days prior. We opted for a video sale, broadcasted over DLMS, with the bulls & heifers on display near the sale barn to make your experience of viewing more efficient and comfortable. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Noble family for being the best bull sale partners a fellow breeder could ask for. It’s been incredibly humbling to watch both programs expand to the point where both groups could make the move home and we wish them all the best with their first on-farm bull sale March 12, 2022. To our past customers – thank you for your continued interest and confidence in our program and the type of cattle we bring to the sale. This years sale offering is loaded for bear and the consistency and quality is impressive in the bull pen, purebred heifers and commercial open females. The Red Willow Fullblood program is the real deal and they have a cowherd that cranks them out year after year with this being the one of the top groups to date. They are dark, hairy, powerful, sound and complete in so many ways with many being calving ease options without sacrificing performance. The purebred offering of bulls follows suit of their Fullbloods without sacrificing the Simmental power that has lead the breed to the success it has in the industry. They are designed with the same approach with sourcing easy calving genetics and maximizing sheer pay weight at weaning while being left with a highly maternal cowherd. The purebred heifers have been selected off the top of their keeper pen and represent the quality maternal genetics that are sought after in this program. Nutritionist Note
Heifers and bulls alike represent a great investment into the future generations of your herd, as such they are animals that we want to perform for many years to come. Similar to bulls, heifer development relies on proper balances between natural proteins and carbohydrates. This promotes maximum lean protein accretion (muscle development) which not only enhances the expression of the animal’s genetic potential but builds the underlying foundation of muscle that will carry the animal through lactation and successful breeding seasons. To further optimize vigor and immunity of the animal, it is the balance between trace minerals that affects absorption and maximum cellular function. Macro minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium are also adjusted for interactions with other minerals such as potassium, and balanced in ratios for optimal bone development. Additionally, these bulls were placed on a biotin program to ensure healthy hoof growth to ensure that he will walk the pastures and work in all situations. A smooth transition from one operation to another as your new sire begins to work is important for his longevity as he performs in your herd for years to come. Thus, proper nutrition for the bulls when they get home is critical. We recommend that bulls are put on to a similar ration as the lactating cows they will be breeding for at least 40 days prior to turn out. For heifers we recommend increasing the plain of nutrition (by giving slightly more grain for instance) 21 days before breeding and again when the bulls go out to optimize reproductive success. We recognize that this is not always possible as animals may be breeding for early January or even on grass. Therefore, Red Willow Ranch bulls and heifers will be on a high forage diet to match with breeding conditions as much as possible allowing for a smooth transition. At Red Willow Ranch, all animals have been developed on balanced and monitored rations from calves on the dam through to what you see today. Hard muscle, under a layer of conditioning is required to sustain both bulls and heifers through this breeding season and many more to come. We want satisfied customers to recognize the time and development that goes into making good seed stock animals, and come back for many more in the future. It is the careful monitoring of these animals’ development in cooperation with the nutritionist that makes them last.

Wildcard adds capacity to his calves unlike any other bull we’ve used and muscle expression that continues to impress. He adds bone and an extremely strong foot. Calves come easily! His influence here has been the largest to date with high selling, highly sought-after bulls and very maternal, productive females. We used him selectively last breeding season due to many asking, “when will you have more Standout sons?” His bull calves this year are typical Standouts: long, hairy, powerful, docile, and rank right up there with past years’ progeny. At the age of 10 years old, his feet have yet to be touched. A few that stand out in his group this year are 30J, 44J, and 93J. Standout’s years are looking numbered, and although we will continue to utilize him through AI, we proudly showcase these bulls as potentially his last naturally bred sire group.

Ego has been our go-to calving ease bull and this years’ offering is quite strong across the board – bulls and heifers. We’re calving his first females this year and they’re looking awesome. We purchased an exclusive pack of semen on Betts for a positive influence on our red program. The Betts progeny are popular due to their extremely clean lines, angularity on the female side, thickness, and capacity through their rib cage. This year we have decided to once again incorporate some commercial females into our sale. We feel the females on offer are a very strong, powerful set of heifers. They possess big-time volume and capacity, great haircoats, and should develop into very productive females with a bright future. They are sired by top end angus and simmental bulls. Heifers are on a full herd health program and will be palpated for breeding soundness prior to sale. Heifers will be sold in pre-sorted groups on sale day.
