At the time of this catalog designing, we are all required to take COVID regulations seriously for everyones safety. We have a large sale facility, with plenty of room for social distancing. We encourage people to come view the bulls anytime prior to the sale at Rainbow and Towaw, and we will gladly take the time to go over the bulls and how our programs work. Show up anytime prior to the sale, up to and including March 19th, and your name will go into a draw for a $500 2021 sale credit to be drawn the night before the Sale.

We will be working with Mark Shologan and broadcasting our sale over the Internet on DLMS.ca. The bulls will be videotaped prior to the sale and on sale day we will have large TV screens set up with the bulls video running while they sell. Two weeks before the sale, videos of every bull will be available at our website www.towawcattle.com or at www.cattlevids.ca. Please don’t hesitate to contact Robert, Craig, Dory, or any of our buyer reps to represent you at the sale. If you intend to bid online make sure you sign up with DLMS and contact Mark to get your buyer approval for our sale. JOINT VENTURE BULL WARRANTY
Towaw Cattle Co. and Rainbow Red Angus guarantee to sell you a bull that is structurally sound, and a bull that has passed a semen test conducted by a licensed veterinarian. In short, we guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull. If he hasn’t passed a semen test, he doesn’t sell. Should any animal fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value. Should this not be possible, an adjustment will be made to reflect the bull in question, as a credit towards the purchase of another bull. In no case shall credit exceed the purchase price of the bull. We however, will not provide replacement or adjustment for physical injury or mismanagement. Bearing this in mind, we stress the importance of insurance on your bulls. Should you have a problem with your bull, please call us right away, and we will work with you to make sure you are satisfied with your bull.
SALE TERMS
RETAINED INTERESTS
We are selling some bulls in this sale as 2/3 interest and full possession. The 2/3 interest part means that the seller wishes to retain a 1/3 interest in the bull entitling him to use the bull through artificial insemination and sharing in any future drawing expenses and revenue of semen on a 1/3 basis. Full possession entitles the new owner to all physical rights to the bull. As in any other information, announcements from the block take precedence over any written information in the catalog.
DELIVERY & BOARD
A rebate of $50.00 per bull will be offered to buyers who bring their trailer and truck their bulls home themselves within one week of sale day. We Will deliver bulls free of charge within Western Canada or closest U.S. port of entry. Bulls will be kept at Towaw, free of charge, until April 15, 2021. If bulls are left longer a fee of $2.00 per day will be charged. Bulls are left entirely at the risk of the purchaser and we recommend that insurance be taken.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
TERMS: Unless otherwise previously arranged with Towaw Cattle Co., terms of this sale are cash or cheque, payable in Canadian funds. As soon as an animal is sold it becomes the responsibility of the purchaser. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the stand at sale time, and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer by the seller for each REGISTERED animal after settlement has been made. DELIVERY: We will arrange delivery of the bulls to central points in western Canada and closest U.S. Port of Entry, free of charge.

EPDs: EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES EPDs are a powerful tool that is available for making genetic progress. EPDs incorporate the performance of the individual, along with the performance of all its relatives. CE: Calving ease - the higher number predicts more calving ease. BW: Birth. A lower EPD predicts lower birthweights. WW: Weaning. High weaning EPDs predict higher weaning weights. YW: Yearling. Higher yearling EPDs indicate greater
expected yearling weights. MILK: Milk EPD should be used to predict the milking ability of the daughters of the bulls in question. Higher milk EPDs project more milk. REA: Rib Eye Area in sq. in. Describes difference in rib eye size. MARB: Marbling. Describes marbling potential of calves expressed as difference in grade score. FAT: Fat thickness in inches. to the 2021 42nd Annual Joint Venture Bull Sale
The last year has certainly been an unprecedented one but I think we, as an Agricultural Industry, have done quite well. Our friends and customers came through last March when it was announced that restrictions were put in place 4 days before our sale. We can’t thank our Buyers enough for coming to look before the Sale, limiting numbers at the Sale, and some bidding from home. Both Towaw and Rainbow would love to show you the bulls before Sale Day and we can have more time and space to discuss your genetic needs. Just like last year,”THE COWS NEED TO BE BRED and THE WORLD NEEDS TO BE FED”, so we willendeavour to do our part, so that you can continue to be profitable in this industry. Our goal has always been to raise cattle that work in a real world environment and positively affect our customers’ bottom lines. It is a long game, that requires some serious discipline, and is probably never going to make the Breeder rich quickly. The commitment it takes to raise cattle without crutches like creep feed, foot trimming, and rigorous culling principles is expensive. I am sure we could get a
6
higher percentage of bulls in the sale if we weren’t so hard on them and their dams, but we would only be hurting you, our customers by doing so. Raising cattle like this hasn’t always been cool or exciting, but we have been doing it for 50 years, raised some good ones, and served a truck load of customers that we are certainly proud of. The long yearling bulls were weaned in December and then fed a growing TMR ration to gain 2.5 pounds per day. We feel growing these bulls out slowly adds to their longevity while still allowing the bulls to show their growth potential. They then are on grass until mid November when we start feeding them their TMR ration on pasture. This year the bulls came home to their 3 acre feedlot pens on January 2nd, allowing them to have plenty of exercise and stay athletic. All the long yearlings were foot scored and GS tested last summer, so they have expanded EPDs available upon request. We are excited about the future of genomic testing and the expanded traits made available for us to further fine tune our breeding program. We feel this pen of bulls has the best disposition and foot scores we have ever had; it is gratifying to see the

results of this “heavy lifting” paying off. Agriculture is an essential service so we will have the sale at the ranch in our large Sale Facility that will have ample space for Social Distancing. We will be starting the Sale at 2:00 pm MST. If you can not make it to the sale in person we have a Sight Unseen Purchase Plan, as well as a number of Sales Staff that could bid on your behalf. We are also working with DLMS who will have the Sale broadcast on the internet. Over the last number of years our volume buyers have been customers that have never visited the Ranch, watch the videos on cattlevids.ca, and buy strictly on DLMS. It definitely is a nice option to watch the videos and then have a good talk about the bulls on the phone with potential buyers. Julian has produced beyond expectations and does everything we think a maternal bull should. With over 230 calves born at Towaw and Ter-Ron, he has high accuracy EPDs and is in the top 3% for calving ease, 1% for maternal calving ease, 1% for marbling, 20% for scrotal circumference, 10% for claw set, 20% for foot angle, and 20% for milk. We are incorporating more of his genetics into the herd with the Jive bull and are linebreeding with him as well. When you find a bull like Julian that does so many things well, we are excited to add to the propotency of our genetics by getting him into as many pedigrees in our herd as possible.

Zephyr was the high selling Towaw bull in the 2018 sale to Chittick Family Farm in Mayerthorpe. He is a proven calving ease sire with 88 calves averaging 74.5 lbs at birth. Tornado is a long bodied, deep red coloured bull that we purchased a half interest in as a Three year old from Duralta Farms. He was our pick of the South View Yearling bulls in 2016 and we were fortunate to be able to partner up with the Duries after seeing his calves and yearlings in Lavoy. The females at Duries are correct in their udder structure, milk well and are good footed. We can’t wait to calve out our attractive, deep red Tornado females this year! His sons have the herdbull look, are long and powerful, and should add performance and maternal quality to our customers calf crops.

Homozygous Black When looking for an outcross sire in the Spring of 2018, our travels took us to Bashaw and the Reich Angus Herd. We really liked the 5D bull in his pen of two year old mates, but after seeing his mother that traced back to Stockman 365, we knew we needed to take a run at him. We bought him in partnership with Lorenz Angus and have been impressed with the muscle shape and attractiveness of his offspring. The sons are very good footed and correct in their structure and his daughters look very promising.

Steadfast has a real herdbull presence about him and true Angus breed character through his head and crest. We really like his muscle pattern, strength over his top and correct skeletal structure. He was used last summer on a group of our heifers and stayed in nice shape. His dam is an easy fleshing, deep bodied ground sow, with a very nice udder. She is the dam of Red Towaw Sceptor 517E, herdsire for Matt’s Red Angus in Smithers, B.C., and who we also use by AI in our program. She also weaned a full sister to 516G at 620 pounds at 6 months of age this December.

These two sons of Range Boss and the great Duralta Georgina cow are like peas in a pod, so they get one footnote. We had admired the great job Range Boss has done for the Merit program and were unable to get any semen. Thomas was able to buy 4 eggs from Miller Wilson Angus by Range Boss and the elite donor Georgina 110U. She is a massively deep dodied and correct cow that has many outstanding progeny at MW Angus. These two bulls are very attractive, hairy, correct and should calve easily. Thomas was lucky enough to get a daughter as well and she is a beauty. These homozygous black future herdsires are definitely new genetics to our program and will be an asset to whoever can walk them in their pastures this summer.

What a year it has been! From wet summers to a beautiful harvest, from good calf prices to feedlot backlogs, 2020 brought plenty of challenges to the table. Through the ups and downs, agriculture andthe people that feed the population have persevered and continued to provide for others.
This year’s bull sale in one that we are thoroughly looking forward to. I believe that the group of bulls put together by ourselves and the crew at Towaw, are right for the times and offer what you, our customers, are looking for in a new herd sire! Our yearlings are a solid group, lots of built in calving ease, fertility, udder quality and foot quality. They are raised sensibly in big pens, being fed a high roughage TMR, formulated by the fantastic team at Bullseye feeds. New this year we have a select group of 2 year old bulls on offer. These extra age bulls were specifically held over to sell this year and have not been previously offered for sale.

Legion is a bull we are really excited about! He comes from one of the more important cow families in our operation. Both his dam and granddam have been recognized as “elite” cows by the Angus association and have raised some of the best cattle in our herd. The dam 46B has been hitting out of the park, placing bulls at Zadunayski Farms and Gibson Red Angus, including the $22000 high selling bull in last year’s sale. She has earned lifetime ratios of BW- 5@ 88 WW- 5@ 115. Legion himself has been a standout from a young age and was popular with visitors throughout the summer. He hasn’t slowed up since then, and is a calving ease bull with some extra punch. He is extremely full through his heart girth and is very smooth patterned. He lost his fantastic two year old dam in June and was forced to fend for himself for the rest of the summer, but it didn’t slow him down much, still posting a nearly 800 lbs 205 day weight! That young cow was poised to be a cornerstone of our program and it was a huge loss. 68H is dark red, real hairy, super attractive made and stands on a well structured foot.
