Welcome to the first annual Country Roots bull sale! On behalf of LA Ranch and Bar M Simmentals we would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to look through our first ever sale catalog. It still doesn’t seem real that we are actually going to be having our own bull sale. It really is a dream come true for us and we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for everyone who has supported our program along the way so from the bottom of our hearts thank you to our amazing customers! We also want to say a huge thank you to Ron and Lois Crosby as they have been there for us and shown us the ways of the purebred world since the very beginning and every step along the way, we definitely wouldn’t be where we are without them. They are truly great friends and role models to us.

9 years ago we bought our first registered cows. We have grown the herd quickly but be assured that just cause we are growing doesn’t mean we don’t cull hard because we do. We feel that if the cows backing the bulls aren’t good quality sound cows with good udders and longevity then you don’t have a product worth selling. Our bull calves don’t get any creep feed throughout the summer. Just grass and their mommas milk. Once we wean them we put them on a TMR ration of ground hay, chopped silage and a barley pea mix. We feed the bulls for longevity not so that they are fat for the sale.

This group of bulls is by far our biggest in numbers and deepest in quality to date. We are very proud of this set of bulls. We feel there is something for everyone. We have everything from bulls with great calving ease right through to some true performance bulls. We are very passionate about the cattle industry and we both,

It is with great pleasure on behalf of all of us at Bohrson Marketing Services, we welcome you to the Country Roots bull sale put on by the Muehlen families of LA Ranch and Bar M Simmentals. Over the last decade the Muehlen boys have diligently been selecting genetics to create an elite cowherd that produces high performing, functional beef bulls to sell to the commercial cowboy. Their keen and critical eye for good cattle have helped them put together an extremely strong and maternal cowherd with foot and udder quality of the utmost importance. The papered cows are ran and treated just like their commercial cows and are expected to raise a quality calf, maintain body condition and re breed early, annually. These fundamental traits have been well bred into their impressive cowherds and we know when you decide to buy a bull from the boys, the easy fleshing, sound structured individuals will leave you a set of steer calves that crush the scales down come weaning and will give you a set of replacement daughters that will make your neighbour jealous. We know that when you run hundreds of cattle on big acreage you need calves that are born un assisted and have lots of vigour. We understand how important Homozygous polled bulls are so that you don’t have to dehorn calves or get docked when you sell a calf with horns you’ll notice that most of the bulls in the offering are either DNA tested for or are homo polled by parentage. We also know that when it comes time to sell your calves POUNDS PAY so you need cattle that can gain. As I’m writing this welcome the insurance for this fall on 850 weight steers is over $2.70/LBS!!! Definitely a great time to be in the industry.

This is a very impressive bull. He was the heaviest weaning bull calf coming in at 860 on sept 10. His grand dam is 10 years old now and is one of the most impressive cows on the place with a good udder and awesome feet. 9K is long bodied and has a ton of middle to him. He travels with ease and stands on an awesome foot. He is out of the same cow family as lot 17.

Another hairy broker son that will leave you an outstanding calf crop. He is very smooth shouldered and deep bodied. His dam is a real nice young cow that milks hard while maintaining a great udder and has really good feet. She has another bull calf at side this year who we are already excited about. This might be the longest bull in the whole pen and is definitely one of the quietest. He is real wide topped and square hipped and will definitely add some pounds to your steers and leave you with a great set of females as he stems from one of our biggest cow families with lots of longevity. Just like all the brokers you have to admire the length in body and the hair coat on this bull. You could lay on this bulls back he is a table top! Real big square hipped and very stout. It’s impressive how wide and square this bull is when you get in behind him. His second calver dam is nice young cow with a very tidy udder.

Warrior has been an absolutely incredible heifer bull for us. We have used him on purebred heifers and commercial heifers and he has worked so well. The calves come easy, are insanely vigorous and then grow like crazy! Check out the spread from BW to WW on these bulls and even more impressive is the size of these yearling bulls. He is a true calving ease bull that doesn’t give up performance. Also look at the EPDs on this bull they are absolutely incredible. What sold us on this bull when we first purchased him was his beautiful dam and his big square foot and how well he can travel. His temperament is unbeatable. He is loose hided, deep sided and a real easy doing bull who probably has the smoothest shoulders I’ve ever seen on a bull.

Calving ease! He has a 74 lbs BW his dam has a 77 lbs BW! And yet he still has and adjusted YW of 1264 lbs! Check out the EPDs on this calf! They don’t get much better! This small headed smooth shouldered bull stands on great feet and has a ton of body to him. He is as quiet as they come and has that awesome white face that the cattle buyers love to see! This is the power bull of this group of calves out of our heifer bull. Going from a 88 lbs BW to an actual weaning weight of 800 lbs on sept 10th out of a heifer! He then went on to be one of the top gainers on feed as well doing an ADG of 3.84 lbs/day. This is the first bull calf to sell from our awesome Candy cow family. We purchased his grand dam as the high selling bred heifer out of a sale in Ontario. She has raised two exceptional heifers and has turned out so well that we flushed her last year and have 10 embryo calves on the way! 2K is a beautiful bull with an exception amount of middle while still having that length of body we all want. This would be the youngest calf out of all the Warrior calves. Only a 76 lbs BW his dam has a 80lbs BW he is in the top 10% of the breed for calving ease and top 5% for BW! His dam and his dams full sister have some of the nicest udders you’ll find anywhere! 28K has a ton of hair!

Supercharged was the $150,000 high selling bull from the great Ranceir program a few years ago. His full sister sold the following summer for $110,000 for 2/3 interest. His pedigree is full of incredible cows and bulls. His dam is one of the greatest cows of all time. His sire has been consistently producing high selling offspring for many years in a row now. Supercharged is one of the stoutest bulls in the breed and is siring some very high quality high performing calves. We love this group of Supercharged sons we have on offer here. They are all stout, big middled bulls with good hair coats.

We were very fortunate to be able to purchase a flush on the great Bright N Classy cow who has produced many high selling daughters. We flushed her to the $150,000 RF Supercharged and hit a home run. These flush brothers are a very impressive set of bulls that we are very proud to have in our offering. They all have excellent feet, they are wide based, stout made bulls with so much body and rib shape. They are loose hided and great haired. The daughters from these bulls should be absolutely stellar as they are backed by generations of donor cows on both sides of the pedigree. We unfortunately only got one heifer out of this flush but she is very good and we are very excited about her future.

The heavy weight of the group in the fall and probably my favourite throughout the summer. This could be the biggest middled bull out of the entire group. Tons of muscle and shape to this calf.

Solid black and solid built. 32K is real soft made and loose hided individual. He is wide based and deep right from his chest floor to his flank. He has tons of rib shape and is very clean through that front end.

There isn’t enough room on this page to tell you just how much we like this bulls dam and since we lost her just a few weeks before writing these foot notes this bull will be the only chance to ever purchase her genetics again as she never gave us a daughter. We showed her very successfully as a calf, as a bred heifer, and then as a cow calf pair with 15K at her side. She won supreme female at the Nechako valley exhibition with him at side and he then won supreme champion bull later the same day. He also won reserve champion Simmental bull at IPE in Armstrong. 15K should make some beautiful daughters and some powerful sons. He is smooth made long bodied and has an awesome disposition.

Don’t let the WW influence you on this bull. He got hurt on pasture which of course affected his WW but he is making up for it now and gaining really well. If you like big middled easy doing cattle this is the bull for you. When we say a “belly dragger” this is exactly what we mean. This bull is so soft made and loose hided. He is our only calf out of the awesome Calving Ease LFE Style bull. Style has sired some beautiful cows and some high selling sons. His dam is nearly perfect footed and is from the same cow family as lot 1.

When we seen his sire Cobra a few years ago we were sure impressed, he was 8 years old and still as sound as could be! 7K is out of a real nice easy doing heifer that we think very highly of. First off we’d like to thank the Crosby’s for the awesome opportunity to buy this herd of black Angus cows. They have spent years building this group of “Calving Ease” cows. Most of these cows are 3 or more generations of calving ease! It’s incredible how consistent these calves are when they come. They come easy, have tons of vigour and actually have some grow which is surprising considering how small they start out. We were happy to be able to add these cows to our program so that we could offer our bull customers some real low birth weight heifer bulls.

Check out the EPDs on this heifer bull! He ranks in the top 1% of the breed for both CE and BW! If you want a true Calving Ease bull for your heifers don’t miss out on this guy. He came small but within a couple weeks he was wide backed and growing like a weed. He is very small headed and smooth shouldered.

We only have two of these Motown bulls but I wish we had more! I was so impressed with the small BW and Vigour in these calves when they were born and they have grown into real nice young bulls. Definitely heifer bull material.

This bull is out of a super nice cow with an awesome udder. Check out his WW of 790 lbs. not bad for a calving ease orientated bull! He has a real nice set of EPDs being above breed average on WW YW CE and being top 30% of the breed for BW.

This is a real nice bull. He’s long bodied with a nice hip and a wide top. A little more BW here than most of the bulls in this group but a real small headed smooth shouldered bull that will work great on those little bit bigger framed heifers we tend to see in this area.
