Murchison Products are a late model Jeep and Ram Specialist based in Brisbane. ‘MP’ as its also now know as, was first registered in 2007 but official full time operations modifying Jeep’s started closer to 2009 from a home based workshop. Moving forward 10yrs and Murchison Products has blossomed into a fully equipped workshop and showroom inBrendale (Brisbane) showcasing a range of the more ‘top end’ orientated accessories and brands.Focusing on Premium brands gives us and the customer more confidence knowing they have proven products put on their vehicles. Second to this premium brands offerkiller looks, Quality, Reliability and Value for money and at the end of the day ifyou’re going to spend a few more and sometimes a lot more dollars on your vehicle thenyou want it to be the best. These are some of the reasons we looked at proven combinationsfor our own Ram 1500 build. Method Wheels with Toyo Tyres was just the start…….Murchison Products are a late model Jeep and Ram Specialist based in Brisbane.

On the MP demo vehicle build we chose the Double Standard 304’s in 17” to pair up with the ever impressive Toyo RT 37 inch tyres. Knowing that this vehicle was always going offroad it needed some big rubber to fill out the enormous Ram 1500 wheel arches post 4” lift! Being an AEV Dealer we wanted to also not only showcase the AEV Dual Sport 4” lift but we needed to know that it was compatible with the ASV ATECO Converted Ram1500s. With a few extra MP in house mods and a few choice words it did fit however we upped the ante’ that little bit more – instead of using the stock coils on Bilstein shocks as per the AEV kit, we decided to use the Fox 2.0 IPF Front Coil overs that we already had in there before hand and our own spec rear Fox remote res long travel shocks as well. This gave the Ram literally the best of both worlds, plenty of comfort, long travel suspension and our GVM load increase certification as well (2” lift height). The photos speak for themselves and after a week on Moreton Island touring the sandy tracks and beaches with full family and gear on board it wasn’t hard to justify the long hours and dollars spent on preparing this rig. I have honestly never driven a more comfortable and capable beach vehicle ever.

A few of the other important parts of the build included the AEV Front Premium Winch Bar, AEV Interior Dash Switch Pod, Mopar Sports Hood, MP Adventure Rack on the rear tub, Truxedo Tonneau Cover, Bedrug interior tub liner with LED lighting package, custom MP leather interior and blackout hood lining, Mopar All weather slush mats and a nice Alpine Halo9 with sound system upgrade. All together this Ram 1500 is just an amazing package to own and drive on a daily basis. It also tows a 4H float most weekend during the colder months of the year with no issues. Of course we were always going to play with the Hemi, so to give it some more poke and better fuel economy we also added AEF short tube ceramic headers, 85mm BBK Throttle body and a custom MP stainless 3.5” Exhaust with dual exit rear. All tuned via an elaborate HP Tuner software package. It yielded approx. 100Nm more torque than standard and around 45Kw at the tyres which is HUGE and the drivability is astounding. The Fuel economy is the surprising factor with Hemi once tuned efficiently, it really does close the gap on the diesel powered variants that are around these days on the “Pump price VS klms” argument and isn’t an overstressed engine by any means. This also allows for some engine mods in the future ! We may actually go down the stroker 6.4 route instead of the superchargers. Superchargers are good but a strong fully built 6.4 would be more my style. Watch this space I guess!

If you’re thinking about getting a Ram honestly don’t hesitate, they are such an amazing vehicle and believe me the USA Truck Market is growing in AU. Its been a long time coming. What’s the next Murchison Demo Vehicle shop build going to be?? The new Jeep JT Galdiator……..watch this space!

The website contains information about which parks are currently open or closed, and is designed to help you make informed travel decisions so that when it is safe to travel again, you can get visit these communities, many of whom are reliant on tourism. Also upgrading vehicles braking and handling capability through suspension and brake upgrades. We also regularly do engine conversions for those wanting to keep what vehicle they have but upgrade the factor motor and gearbox setup. we have always strived to sell only the best products available to our customers that travel some long distances to have their vehicle needs met.

With many variants of diesel vehicles available today we have many products available to tailor our customers a setup they have only dreamt of, this is achieved through being dealers for ECUSHOP australia, United Fuel Injection, Kings racing shocks, GSL and method race wheels. Diesel power is the way of the future not only in 4wds but also drag racing which with working with some other highly regarded diesel performance shops in aus the diesel drag racing scene is about to unfold rapidly. with our own drag ute coming to the end of its build we will be able to show people what they can do. Around 50% of our builds and upgrades are to the Toyota range of diesel 4wd vehicles which are highly used by the touring and towing bunch of retired couples (grey nomads).

These VDJ V8 Landcruiser’s finish up very well and end up being very capable vehicles with the correct setup and tuning they do their jobs with ease, a lot more efficient on fuel and last longer. With some very rough roads out there in AUS it pays to have only the best components putting power and torque to the ground this is why we sell only the best in method wheels. With most touring vehicles becoming very close to over GVM or GVM upgraded it pays to have a strong and reliable set of wheels. Method offer a life time warranty on construction and 2 years on the finish to ensure your investment is covered, this is why we choose only method wheels as a option for our customers with many sizing and designs available they have ensured there’s a wheel for you.

SUPPORTING BUSHFIRE RECOVERY

Adelaide Hills Vineyards before the bushfire The images of the 2019/20 bushfires we’ve all been exposed to over this summer have shocked and saddened us all and with extensive television and social media coverage there were some inescapable and fearful scenes. The stories and photos that have emerged of bravery, loss, fear, anger and triumph have carried us all along on a wave of emotions, overloading and overwhelming our senses, and that doesn’t even begin to touch on the feelings of those personally affected by the horror of the bushfires. In these weeks and months of despair from relentless fires it has been a time for even those unaffected personally to feel helpless and desperately wanting to assist in the most useful ways possible. There can seem to be a plethora of choices for those wanting to donate money or assist in other ways but some of the major charity organisations are a good place to start, with proven track records for seeing that funds and goods get to where they’re needed most. Most of these charities have the added convenience of taking donations online.

The care and rehabilitation of injured native wildlife is another area that has touched us all and the RSPCA’s bushfire appeal, WIRES (Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service) NSW, the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital NSW and the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park in South Australia,

are just a few places that money can be directed to. At state level, the Country or Rural Fire Services/Authorities are also obvious choices to direct much needed funding for resources, and local service clubs such as The Lions Club and Rotary Australia are also taking donations.

Adelaide Hills landscape after the bushfire

Adelaide Hills landscape after the bushfire

Before the fire

Views over Woodside after the bushfire All of the photos appearing with this story were taken in an area that was home to my family and I for decades, the Adelaide Hills. The towns of Woodside, Lobethal and Cudlee Creek were particularly impacted and the ferocity and speed of the fires shocked a lot of long term residents. More than 70 homes, 404 outbuildings and 227

Woodside after the bushfire vehicles were destroyed and there were significant losses of grapevines, apple and pear trees and stock in this once rich agricultural area. There are a number of wineries, vineyards and orchards in this region but as it is with the unpredictability of fire, some experienced only minor losses while others were decimated.

The CFS halted the fire on the doorstep of the town of Lobethal

Roadside devastation from the Cudlee Creek fire

Adelaide Hills wineries and food producers are open for business

One of the best ways we can assist with recovery at a grassroots level is to visit, shop, stay and see the resilience and rebuilding occurring in the towns and communities affected by the fires. It can be very shocking and heart wrenching to visit after a bushfire, especially when they have been places well known to you but the very appeal of these towns is the tight knit communities that come together in times of disaster such as this. Businesses, sporting clubs, service groups, schools and individuals tend to pull together and support

each other. As you drive through these areas the recovery process is obvious with fences being rebuilt and scorched land being cleared. By returning to the areas affected, eating at the cafes, hotels and bakeries, and buying from the local traders we can give them a much needed lift. We can spread the word and images of untouched areas to show that for many it is business as usual and continue to support them with the long road to recovery. Now is the time for repaying the people living and working in these communities where hospitality and friendly service is given freely to visitors in good times and bad.

Woodside in the Adelaide Hills - open for business

Australians are a resilient lot and digging in deep and helping those in need is one of our greatest strengths and an easy way to be a part of the recovery process. It’s not too soon. The places affected may be burnt around the edges but the heart of the communities is still beating strong and waiting for you. Adelaide Hills wineries

WHY YOU NEED TO CARE ABOUT WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION?

Jump onto any caravan and camping forum, or get chatting away to travellers in a caravan park and the discussion will invariably turn to weight distribution, ball weights and towing.

The weight of your set up, which includes not only your caravan, but also your tow vehicle, is essential to get right. Wrong weights or weight distribution can have disastrous effects.

Knowing the correct weight and height of your tow vehicle is the start. You can find this information in your vehicle manual.

Fire is the one disaster that cleans up after itself, it leaves metal melted in pools on the ground, glass sagging and broken and any other material completely dissipated into the atmosphere. While we were hoping for the cast iron oven to be salvageable, it lay at the bottom of the wreckage broken in two, likely from heat and a falling beam. What was left behind were sheet after sheet of twisted corrugated iron as we used it to clad the entire shack, and even some of the interior. We have decided not to take advantage of the offer to take wreckage to the local waste facility for free to try and alleviate adding to landfill. The burnt out cars will become features of the property, just as we remember seeing on long drives throughout the country, a token reminder of how we are forever at the mercy of Mother Nature.

This is actually a great opportunity to control weeds on the property, lantana is our biggest threat, and with most of it burnt out we can physically remove what is trying in vain to grow back. Keeping on top of the weeds is paramount as it is the perfect time for them to regenerate faster than the native plants, causing a much bigger problem in years to come. We also found plenty of evidence that the bush is regenerating with new grass shoots, epicormic growth on tree's who didn't loose their canopy, birds are already back and a very healthy looking possum and a goanna came to visit. They have access to water and we have left out some food so they can continue to call this place home. There is hope that one day it will become a sanctuary again.

As we wandered the property we found another cast iron oven in a burnt out shed which can be salvaged and we hope to use in the future. We would love any suggestions on how to re-use the warped sheet's of tin and are not prepared to give up easily!

Kool Kampers A STEP BACK IN TIME WORDS AND IMAGES BY KOOL KAMPERS

There’s seriously so much incredible history to learn as you travel around Australia. History that can be hard to visualise and comprehend given our modern- day society… and I’m not just talking about all of the war history, or the history regarding our first explorers or indigenous landowners. We love that one of the gifts we are getting from our travels, is a different perspective and perhaps even greater understanding into some of the circumstances and conditions our fellow Aussies in past (and sometimes still present) decades used to endure.

WOOLSHEDS Taking a left turn on a whim while passing through Balranald in New South Wales on our way to The Murray River, we saw a sign directing us to the ‘Old Yanga Woolshed’ in the Yanga National Park, so decided to follow the route and see what the old shed was like. We were kind of expecting just a ‘shed’ with perhaps a monument describing a little bit of history, so when we got there, were

surprised to see what appeared to be a huge farm – with a lot of areas that you could actually walk through. Some of its signage told us that the ‘Old Woolshed’ was built in the late 1800’s along the Murrumbidgee River, and that the now historic site was once the largest, most modern woolshed in the district, housing around 3,000 sheep and providing work for up to 40 shearers at a time!

A LABOUR OF LOVE Our boys were fascinated with some of the machinery left inside the shed that shows how the wool was moved and packaged. Wayne was impressed with the structure of the shed, and I, with my hairdressing background, found the shearer ‘work stations’ and tools showed a not-to-different picture to that of a bustling salon – and I could visualise the hours they workers spend in their tiny little space, bent over shearing sheep after sheep after sheep! There was a rich aroma that remains within the walls, and little clumps of wool left around on the conveyer belts and corners of the separated areas within the main shed, helping to tell the story as we soaked in the wear and tear and textures around us.

Walking outside the shed you can almost see the full picture of the small village that would have called the station home – with a large woolshed such as this apparently commonly housing several generations of the one family who all worked the property together. It’s sad to think these woolsheds are now victims of changing landscapes, low wool prices and an intense run of brutal drought. actually walk through.

TIMES CHANGE We spent a while just standing there, to try picture what times would have been like for those workers. Such intense labour. Such extreme heat conditions in those sheds. Such a contained lifestyle in one of those dorm rooms! And you know what? With a little research, spurred on by what we saw, we found out that conditions are still pretty much the same for shearers to this day! From the hand crafted fences, creepy creaking doors, locked doors in the living quarters, cobwebs and old fallen-to-pieces furniture… To many, these old woolsheds look like any other run down, abandoned building in the bush. But to us, it has given our family a little appreciation for what the workers endure, and definitely opened our eyes to a piece of pastoral history. HOT TIP: Make sure you wear shoes on your self – guided tour… as the prickles are lethal out there and can poke through your flip-flops!!

ONION MARINADE Summertime for every Australian screams BBQ and the great outdoors. Fresh air, family and friends and easy entertaining and if you are anything like my partner, you love things on sticks. BBQ meat on a stick and he’s a happy man. So far in our life though there has been a small problem. Most of skewers are round long metal sticks and when loaded with meat, will just spin. Prawns just keep going right round baby, right round. The weight of the meat, then the caramelisation and charing will create a weight and just keep spinning.

Another problem can be the metal skewer is too thin and will not create any heat induction, so raw centres. Never a good start to any BBQ. This year I decided it was time to get rid of these culinary dilemmas once and for all. So I went to the BBQ kings of the world. Time to learn form the best. USA, South Africa, South Korea and Aussies of course are just to name a few but when it comes to things on sticks I’m lead straight away to the Middle East. In this part of the word meat on sticks is almost compulsory way of life. From the backyard BBQ to the doner kebab, it’s meat and a sticks all the way. So online I went and new

BBQ sticks I brought. The description of sticks is a little under exaggeration though, more like swords. Long thick flat blades to hold the meat in place, generates heat in the middle, it creates the perfect BBQ meat on a sword. Move over little sticks. So now to my new favourite marinade and this is definitely a case of less is best. It flavours, tenderises and is so easy. It also creates some prep for another dish. Winner, winner. To start with peel and bend a red onion to a fine slush. Pour into a clean chux and

squeeze out all the juice. Place the blended onion into a container for another time. Prepped onion on tap, never will go to waste. To the onion juice add minced garlic and salt and pepper. These amounts will vary, see below recipe to get a rough guide of amounts you need. Can be multiplied or halved, whatever you need at the time. Now the the magic begin. Marinating time is your call. Overnight is fab, if short on time frame, don’t refrigerate. Meat will marinate faster at room temperature. This method is only for max of four hours.

Skewer meat and cook. BBQ, grill, open fire whatever works for you at the time and enjoy. I know you will. This marinade also works perfectly on left over roast meats. Just grill or bbq, swords wont work. The onion juice tenderise, sweetens and tastes just bloody good.

INGREDIENTS 600gm chicken thighs, cut into large chunks 1 large (200g) red onion. This should give you 200ml juice 2 tbsp chopped or pureed garlic 1 ½ tbsp sea salt 1 tsp ground white pepper

METHOD Blend (purĂŠe) red onion and strain away the juice. Place juice in a plastic bag or container with garlic, salt and pepper. Keep onion pulp for another dish. Place in fridge with the cut meat overnight or for quick marinade leave out for a couple of hours. If not already bring meat to room temperature before cooking. Cook and enjoy. Perfect wrapped in my kebab bread with tabouli and tzatziki. Recipes coming soon.

BUSH’N IT ON A BUDGET AWESOME FREE STUFF TO DO IN ADELAIDE

Adelaide is our ‘home’, it’s the place we left when we started travelling and it’s the place we’ve returned to after our ‘big lap’ – even though we didn’t think we would! Adelaide is a city that is underrated and often left out, but you know what? We think Adelaide is pretty good! For families Adelaide is perfect, there are some awesome things to do here and some wicked things to do for absolutely FREE! Here are our top ‘free’ things to do –

ADELAIDE’S BEACHES you are there definitely grab some fish and chips Adelaide has some pretty beautiful beaches and

from Soto’s or enjoy breakfast at ‘Froot’ café.

all so close to the city! From the popular beachside suburb of Glenelg to the not so known marina at

One spot we love to take the kids which is always

North Haven there are some perfect places to

quieter is the marina at North Haven, you can park

enjoy the sun. Glenelg, Henley Beach and

right next to the play park then follow the footpath

Semaphore all have main streets or squares

around the marina – you are very likely to spot

where you can enjoy the cafes, bars and shops

some dolphins! It’s about a 20 minute walk and

whilst just been a stones through from the beach.

there’s a lovely pub to stop for a refreshing beer

Our favourite beach spot is Semaphore and whilst

before heading back.

ADELAIDE CENTRAL MARKETS

Adelaide central markets are one of our favourite spots for breakfast and lunch and just a general morning out! Adelaide central markets are one of the southern hemispheres largest indoor produce markets and have been open for more than 150 years! The markets have a great bustling atmosphere and are full of beautiful food stalls. You can spend a few hours enjoying the markets and tasting your way around as there is so much to see and taste. Our favourite pick for food in the markets is ‘Big Table’. The markets are located in Adelaide city so they are easily accessible and great to visit when having a day in the city

CARRICK HILL

Carrick Hill is Australia’s most intact twentieth-century heritage house, museum and garden located just 15 minutes form Adelaide City in the foot Hills. The gardens here are magnificent and completely FREE to access. The gardens have different sections including Carrick hill stables and apple orchid, Picnic grounds or our favourite ‘The Children’s Storybook Trail’. The storybook trail is so good! Including features from

books such as The Hobbit, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Wind in the Willows, The Secret Garden and many more! You can definitely use Carrick Hills Storybook trail as a day out for the kids to explore and use their imagination. The house itself is an English manor style home and was completed in 1939. There is also an onsite café but we definitely recommend taking a picnic! Carrick Hill is just open on weekends.

BOTANICAL GARDENS

Adelaide Botanical Gardens are absolutely stunning. The gardens are located in Adelaide City so are easily accessible BUT they make you feel like you are in an oasis far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Going for a walk and a picnic in the botanical gardens is always a great way to spend some time with the kids.
There are loads to see in the gardens including the restored 1877 built Palm House, First Creek Wetland, the Amazon Waterlily Pavilion, the Santos Museum of Economic Botany and the Bicentennial Conservatory.

ST KILDA PARK

Adelaide has some pretty great parks but St Kilda Adventure Park is the crème of the crop! Honestly this park is just as fun for the big kids as it is for the little ones! St Kilda is located around 45 minutes north of Adelaide City and you can spend all day there AND even all night with its free camp! As well as its monster slides, majestic castle, huge flying fox and pirate ship the park also has BBQ and picnic areas.

We recommend not overlooking Adelaide and coming checking it out!
