A warm welcome awaits you at The Fox in Small Dole A village pub is often the heart of the local community and this is certainly true of The Fox in Small Dole. Lynn Baldwin has been running The Fox pub in Small Dole for 17 years and she loves her job as landlady of the village pub. “My family has lived in the village for generations and I was born here. I did move away for several years but the village drew me back! It’s a really happy and friendly community – it’s just such a lovely place to live and work.” The Fox prides itself on its good quality, freshly cooked traditional food which is served daily both at lunch time and in the evening. “We have very loyal customers in the village and we also have people coming from further afield because they like the food so much” said Lynn. “It’s classic pub food but it’s all home-cooked and we don’t skimp on the portions!” All the food is freshly prepared on the premises daily using produce from local

suppliers including Swains Farm Shop for vegetables, salads and fruit, and Handcross Village Butchers for meat. From the tasty pies, burgers and coleslaw to the delicious daily fruit crumble, their menu is all cooked from scratch in the pub kitchen. Those on a gluten-free diet will be pleased to know that much of the food served at the Fox is gluten-free, including the pies, sausages and burgers. Even the renowned all-day Sunday roasts have gluten-free Yorkshire puddings and gravy! Harvey’s brewery in Lewes provide the real ales served at The Fox and alongside these, they also stock two guest ales. – currently the Adnams Ghost Ship ale is proving very popular with customers. Lager and cider drinkers are well catered for with four of each on tap and they also stock a wide variety of wine as well as flavoured gins. The Fox is a proud sponsor of the Annual Small Dole Village Show which this year is taking place on Saturday 10 August from 1.30 to 5pm on Mackleys Sports Field. This year they are generously donating the top prize for the raffle which is a £30 voucher to spend on food and / or drink at the pub. Of course, the pub itself will be open all day serving refreshing drinks and tasty home cooked food for all the family.
