fooD eQUITY roUNDTaBLe for HarDeST HIT SeCTorS THE Los Angeles County Board of supervisors has approved a motion authored by supervisor Janice Hahn and co-authored by supervisor sheila Kuehl to address food insecurity in LA County through the creation of a Food Equity Roundtable, which would – among other things – strengthen the County’s capacity for food distribution programs and focus on a food justice agenda. “Food insecurity didn’t start with the pandemic and it won’t end when it is over,” said Supervisor Hahn. “We are creating this Food Equity Roundtable to bring government, non-profit, and philanthropic partners to come up with long-term solutions for creating a resilient, equitable, and

sustainable food system that eliminates food insecurity in our county.” Though food insecurity has been a growing problem w ithin LA County for decades – with regular assessments conducted since 2002 showing that at least 20% of low-income households experience food insecurity in any

By NINA MOHAN Ethnic Media Services AMAZON will pay over $61.7 million dollars to the Federal Trade Commission following an investigation that revealed that for two and a half years the company failed to pay Amazon Flex drivers the full amount of tips they earned from Amazon customers.

The $61.7 million will be returned to Flex drivers and is equal to the full amount of tip money Amazon withheld. According the FTC’s complaint, Amazon advertised that Flex drivers would be paid $18-25 per hour while making deliveries and would keep 100 percent of tips they earned. M

oving out of Las Vegas, Nevada to settle in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho is certainly not subtle. Well, the Wikipedia says Horseshoe Bend is the largest city in rural Boise County in the southwestern part of Idaho. But Las Vegas, isn’t just a large city. It is one of America’s biggest resort city. And for Racquel Pankau, who trains people in the call center industry, moving away from one of the world’s famous hustle and bustle hub has been the fulfillment of years of longing. “It was quite a welcome change,” Racquel said, recalling how she felt unshackled by the actuality of living in a house sitting on 9 acres of land. With the pandemic creating chaos big and small everywhere, Racquel said she felt fortunate to be where she was. It is one of Racquel’s dreams to write a book.
