How Does Nasal EPAP Work?

During Inhalation the patient inhales through their nose as normal. During exhalation, the valve closes and air passes through a narrow opening. This creates resistance to airflow, thus increasing the backpressure in the upper airways.

There are 3 known mechanisms of action for EPAP:

1. The back pressure slows down exhalation and leads to pressure remaining in the airways at the end of exhalation. This holds the airway wider than normal breathing.

2. This increased air in the lungs at the end of exhalation (FRC) causes a ‘Tracheal Tug’ reducing the susceptibility of the airways to collapse.

3. There is a slight CO2 increase. This improves muscle tone and respiratory drive.

The market for CPAP alternatives, including EPAP therapy, in Australia, though currently smaller in size, holds promising potential for expansion. According to a study by Research and Markets, the Australian CPAP alternatives sector was valued at AUD $10.5 million in 2020. It is expected to experience steady growth, with a projected Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.2% from 2021 to 2028. This anticipated growth is driven by a rising consumer preference for non-invasive therapeutic options and the introduction of innovative EPAP devices, a market segment that BMedical is excited to lead.

Bongo Rx Sleep Therapy

Bongo Rx is a combination nasal dilator and nasal EPAP device that is designed to keep the airway open and relieve mild-moderate OSA and snoring. During inhalation, the nasal dilation allows a unrestricted breath in; during exhalation, the small valves close to generate EPAP pressure between 8-13cm H20, to keep the airway open.

The Bongo Rx is a travel-friendly solution and can be used on planes, ships, trains, and buses, and also while camping as it is discreet and does not require a power source. Unlike Provent and Theravent, Bongo Rx is reusable, can be worn with or without the headgear, and should be replaced every 90 days.

It is recommended that patients should start by purchasing the Bongo Rx Starter Pack to find their perfect fit, and continue their treatment by purchasing the Bongo Rx Annual Replenishment Pack in their preferred size.

OptiPillow Reusable EPAP Mask

Optipillow is a CPAP alternative designed to relieve snoring and mildmoderate OSA. OptiPillow is a travel-friendly solution and can be used on planes, ships, trains, and buses, and also while camping as it is discreet and does not require a power source.

During inhalation the user inhales through their nose as normal. During exhalation, the small valve in the device will partially close generating an EPAP pressure. This pressure can be adjusted by rotating the sleeve at the front of the device to open or close the valve.

+ With the valve fully open, OptiPillow can generate 1 to 3cm H2O of pressure

+ With the valve 50% closed, OptiPillow can generate 3 to 7cm H2O of pressure (similar resistance to Theravent Regular)

+ With the valve 75% closed, OptiPillow can generate 8 to 14cm H2O of pressure (similar resistance to Provent).

NightShift Lateral Sleep Positioner

The NightShift Lateral Sleep Positioner reduces the effects of Positional Obstructive Sleep Apnea (POSA) and snoring by keeping the sleeper out of the supine position. The user can choose how they prefer to wear the device, on the back of the neck or around the chest.

The NightShift device detects when the user is sleeping in the supine position and begins to vibrate. It will increase the vibrations until the user repositions into a different sleeping position. Users can program the therapy to begin immediately or after 15 minutes.

Clinicians and users can track their progress by accessing daily or monthly reports from the online portal or the NightShift companion app (available for Android or iOS). TENS Therapy

EmeTerm

The EmeTerm range of anti-nausea wristbands can be used to treat many forms of nausea including motion sickness (while riding a car, a boat, or a plane), morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum, virtual reality sickness, post-operative nausea and vomiting, and medically induced nausea.

The device blocks nausea through TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) technology, by delivering pulsating signals to the brain through specialised electrodes to ensure maximum electrical conductivity.

With an 85% success rate stopping nausea in clinical trials, the EmeTerm wristbands have five intensity levels to choose from, users can customise the wristband’s settings to relieve their symptoms.

How does TENS technology work?

TENS consists of a small unit which delivers a signal through the median nerve on the inside of the wrist.

The signal travel through the body’s nervous system to the part of the brain which controls nausea, stomach contractions, and vomiting.

By releasing a low-frequency pulse, the EmeTerm acts on the vagus nerve signal travelling to and from the stomach. This prevents the brain from transmitting signals to the stomach and reduces or eliminates nausea.
