Four points within a solid form, symbolizing wholeness, universality, strength, and Community with an arms extending and reaching out from each point, containing a series of more public and private spaces. Quad serves the community of Hollywood Beach through a group of indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, that can be used as a storm shelter when needed. Passive design strategies such as natural ventilation, openable walls and shaded outdoors, as well as various shading devices for thermal control will be implemented.

Resiliency is explored through the use of Concrete masonry, which is flexible, resilient and durable. Perforated CMU Block walls are located around the ,main mass to define different outdoor gathering spaces. The perforated walls are extended from the the East to the West side of the site, connecting the boardwalk side to the highway side in a continuous way. The CMU Block walls are furthered used in the foundation of the main mass, as a perimeter wall foundation, raising the structure 5’ above the ground to combat flooding. CMU Block columns further raise the main gathering space 25’ above the ground allowing for a safe elevated space for the gathering of the community

The Charter School for experiential Learning introduces the architecture itself as a tool for learning. The original members of the artifact sit on the site guiding circulation to create a fl ow of movement across the buildings. Cut out voids from the artifact, create a series of partitions that create spaces for diff erent areas of learning. Through Kolb’s experiential Learning model, the school’s architecture embraces an environment for students to act, refl ect, conceptualize, and apply their studies. The building allows for spaces that embrace the openness and freedoms for all areas to be met. The original artifact included a long section that guided the design outwards from its side. On the final model the long middle section acts as the spine of the building, providing the main entry point, as well as connects the two additions on either side through a series of bridges. This connectivity allows for the building to act as a whole.

PASSAGE
Year: 2023
Project: Environmental Awareness Center for Thunderbolt, GA
Type: Architecture Design Studio II: Site and Environmental Context
Software: Autodesk Revit, Rhinoseros 3D, Lumion, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

Passage Environmental Awareness center transitions seamlessly between architecture and nature through a passage that flows through the Maritime Climax Forest, the High Marsh and into the Low Marsh. This passage through the marsh is explored through a series of stepped terraces and ramps that descend down the site were one is able to explore the different mash zones and its relation to the tidal changes of the Wilmington River. Like Dendritic drainage patterns found at river tributary formations along the Wilmington River, the architecture splits into zones and sections that serve different purposes and are effected by the environment in different ways. Nature and Architecture coexist peacefully on the the coastal site, bringing awareness to the environment through the exploration of the marsh, by rejuvenating the marsh scape below and allowing it to flourish naturally around the center. This seamless and almost overtaking of nature, allow the marsh to stand out as the main attraction of the center. The Passage Environmental awareness Center aims to create a harmonious relation between nature and architecture, allowing for spaces dedicated to learning, exploring and researching the marsh scape of Georgia barrier islands.

Diving through the Red Sea: Bonding promotes the idea of sustainability and connection with nature. Coral reefs are some of the most diverse and ecologically important ecosystems on the planet. Their structures can provide a template for sustainable and resilient architecture. Bonding reconnect the manmade to the natural, bringing back introducing the architecture in a nondestructive way that will positively impact the coral reef of the armed Sea. Bonding incorporates elements of coral-like structures, and growth from one central point, through a series of outdoor and indoor spaces that allow the users to experience the Red Sea, and the coral reef, as well as reinforce the connection between man and nature. Bonding the manmade with nature by incorporating elements of coral restoration through the development of underwater coral farms within the concrete foundation of the structure. The foundation which connects the manmade to the natural landscape, holds the circular platforms that provide various interactions with water as well as an immersive Augmented reality experience with the coral reef of the Red Sea. The structure is covered in PTFE Teflon fabric membrane tensile structure and is covered in BIPV Panels on The east facing tents. The tents provide areas of shading as well as allow for ventilation into the structure. The 8 different tent covering the circular platforms below are connect to 3 masts positioned along the coral reef exploration and snorkeling lagoon, providing three points to provide stability to the structure. Their shape resembles different fragments of coral coming together to create one large organism.
