THE WAVE
BUSINESS UPDATE
by Dennis LeStrange

The Growth Mindset
At BlueCrest, we believe growth is more than a business strategy—it’s a mindset.
BlueCrest lives this attitude with our customers and employees, and it is embedded in our business planning process.
This mindset enabled BlueCrest to grow despite years of declining mail volumes. Our clients trust us to help them grow their businesses through innovation and productivity gains.
True partnership, however, starts with growth from within.
You can’t innovate if you don’t approach business—or life in general— without a growth mindset. That’s why we’re launching “Mindset Matters” at BlueCrest—an internal initiative of self-improvement.
Our teams enjoyed a taste of “Mindset Matters” at our kickoff meetings where renowned Talent Enablement Advisor, Dr. Ann Shulte, led our teams through workshops centered on the growth mindset.
We decided to take this mindset, a cultural commitment we already live with our customers and employees alike and formalize it internally.
Growth Mindset is an ethos. It’s a belief in our ability to develop ourselves through dedication, effort, and learning. It’s about breaking away from fixed positions and embracing new challenges, ideas, and change as learning opportunities.
Imagine what happens when every team member on every team operates with the growth mindset at the forefront. That’s the future we’re building at BlueCrest.
I can’t wait to share more.
Onward!

How are Mail Ballots Processed?
Mail-in voting, also known as absentee voting, has been an integral part of the U.S. electoral system for over a century, evolving to accommodate voters unable to vote in person. Its origins trace back to the Civil War era, when soldiers were granted the ability to vote from the battlefield. By the late 1800s, certain states extended absentee voting rights to civilians under specific conditions. A significant milestone occurred in 2000 when Oregon became the first state to adopt an all-mail voting system, conducting elections entirely by mail.
Smart Mail Inserter Solutions for a Changing Mail Industry

The world of mail production is undergoing significant changes. As businesses rethink their mailing strategies, efficiency, cost reduction, and adaptability have become top priorities.
Traditional high-volume mailing is not as prevalent. Today’s businesses increasingly focus on targeted, personalized mailpieces rather than mass distribution. This shift has brought about several key trends in mail production.
More Streamlined Mailpieces – Companies are reducing the number of inserts in statements and marketing materials. The trend is for a simplified, cost-effective approach that minimizes unnecessary components.
Maximizing White Space for Messaging – Instead of using separate inserts, businesses are leveraging the available white space on documents. They use it to print offers, promotions, and key messages directly onto the statement.
Declining Marketing Mail Volumes – With digital communication becoming dominant, marketing mail volumes have dropped significantly. This makes it even more critical for mail operations and mail services to increase efficiency and control costs.

BLUECREST IN ACTION
BlueCrest Kickoff 2025 Features BoatBuilding Contest
In a rather stunning turn of events, members of BlueCrest participated in a daring adventure on the high-seas in January 2025. The setting?
A hotel in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where participants took a break from intense strategy planning, keynote addresses, presentations (and waiting for elevators) to go outside and reconnect with nature—and each other.
We're talking about a teambuilding exercise. It would demand thinking, planning, time-management, and IMMENSE AMOUNTS OF DUCT TAPE.
Yes, we were building boats out of cardboard, tape, and tarps. But this wasn't just any team building exercise:
This was a DOOMED teambuilding exercise.
Why? The company we hired to administer the event accidentally forgot to ship the cardboard. Thinking quickly, they dispatched to the local hardware store to purchase enough materials for us to use. The catch? The cardboard boxes did not match the size indicated on the printed instructions.
Did we tell our daring participants? Nay! What fun would there be in that?
Imagine it: sinking ships, wet hair, blaming the supply chain. What could possibly go wrong?
Nothing, actually.
None of the ships sank. Only one of our competitive team members took on water, and that's because he paddled too fast. And he didn't fall into the ocean, but rather a very nice, balmy swimming pool.
Congratulations to our winners, and nice job to our participants! They're suprisingly good boat builders!

BLUECREST ICARE AWARDS by
Mimi Wood

Michael Grosspietch
Mike went above and beyond during the recent NYE County Vote-by-Mail installation—Nevada’s first laser-tab system with a newly integrated EMS and a brand-new elections staff. Despite numerous delays and challenges, Mike provided expert support, kept the client engaged, and helped resolve issues in real-time. He even adjusted his travel schedule, staying through the weekend to ensure success. His dedication and trusted guidance exemplify the ICARE values and made this a truly successful launch.

Kevin Kavanaugh
Big kudos to Kevin for going above and beyond during a critical moment for our customer, Fiserv. When a key printer failed during peak healthcare season, Kevin stayed late into the evening to support their team and help restore production. His dedication helped prevent client impacts and earned high praise from Fiserv’s VP of Operations, who said, “We truly appreciate his willingness to help us through this event.” Great job, Kevin!

James McDonald
James hit the ground running as our new Parcels Program Manager, jumping into his 30/60/90 plan ahead of schedule. He quickly took ownership of complex Amazon programs, working across teams to build strong execution and budget plans. Recognizing his leadership, we assigned him an even tougher challenge, and he responded by driving team alignment and strengthening our relationship with Amazon. As they said, “James is a valuable addition to your team.” His rapid mobilization and consistent ICARE behaviors make him a strong asset to BlueCrest.

David Router
Dave independently designed and produced a photocell guard using his 3D printer during his personal time and with his own materials, without seeking any form of compensation. The component he developed has been successfully integrated into machines across Canada, safeguarding photocells from external light interference. Additionally, it has been employed on the Evolution machines in the sealer area to protect photocells from excessive water splashing. In his role as a Senior Technician, Dave has also been sharing his experience and knowledge developing new hires. This has been very beneficial to both customers and our team. Dave, thank you for your effort and contribution to the Blue Crest organization.

Tom Toppi
Tom continues to impress both prospects and customers with his deep knowledge and professionalism. He recently walked ABS Graphics through the differences between MPS Select and Epic Select, earning high praise. He also provided valuable cutter insights to Darwill’s Operations Manager. Tom’s patience, transparency, and expertise set him apart. As one customer joked, “Can we get another daughter married off so he doesn’t retire?” Tom is truly best in class.
Recognize a colleague or team today!

Kamar Wilks
Kamar is our go-to expert for anything related to 365—F&O, reporting, expenses, and more—often stepping in outside North America hours. Her deep system knowledge and ability to diagnose and resolve issues (both short- and long-term) are invaluable. Even when fielding frustrated queries, she remains patient, thorough, and solution-focused. We’re lucky to have her on the team!
Congratulations to our ICARE Applause Winners from Q2 2024! They were drawn from the ICARE High-Five winners. Who will be next?

Team "Vote By Mail"
This incredible team worked tirelessly in the months leading up to the Presidential Election, supporting 78 BlueCrest customers—twice the number from 2020. Their efforts included installations, preventative maintenance, live support, and customer training, often across multiple time zones and well into the early morning hours. The Central/Northern California team handled major growth in Vote-by-Mail (VBM) placements with innovation, patience, and enthusiasm— ensuring a smooth election for many first-time customers. Even when systems went down on election night, they remained calm, solved problems on their own, and kept things moving.
This team showed incredible flexibility, collaboration, and commitment—demonstrating every ICARE value in action. We’re proud to recognize them for making the 2024 election a success for BlueCrest and our customers. Way to go, team!

Top Team Performance in the western region - the challenge of postal voting in Essen
The smooth running of postal ballot mailings is always a challenge - especially when the timetable changes due to early elections. In Essen, our team showed the highest level of commitment.
On Thursday evening, 6 February, the City of Essen's electoral office received the first delivery of ballot papers for the Bundestag elections on 23 February 2025. The ballot papers are an essential part of the election process. Due to the early federal election, numerous preparatory tasks had to be completed in a very short time. This had to be done despite the tight schedule and in compliance with legal deadlines, including the submission of candidate lists and the subsequent objection periods.
The final candidate lists were not finalised until just before the election, meaning that the electoral

office was only able to place the print order for the ballot papers at this point.
Thanks to the BlueCrest inserting systems installed at the customer's premises and the fast and efficient support of our service department, this challenge90,000 postal votes in one day - was mastered without any problems. Our technology and expertise enabled the election documents to be processed on time and without errors.
The prompt and reliable support provided by our service technician Ernestas Grigalaitis deserves special mention and was expressly praised by our customer Mr Brackhage. He expressed his thanks for the professional execution, which made a significant contribution to the successful completion of the postal vote dispatch despite the challenging circumstances.
We would like to thank everyone involved for their great work!

Retirement farewell to a valued colleague: Kai Patshijew
After an impressive career of almost four decades, we are saying goodbye to one of our service engineers as he enters his well-deserved retirement with effect from 1.2.2025. Having started his journey with PB in 1986, Kai became an important member of the BlueCrest service team in the Nordics in 2018.
A highly experienced and reliable service expert, he dedicated himself primarily to our inserting solutions, always focusing on customer satisfaction. His dedication and expertise were particularly valued by our clients in Finland, with a special focus on our key account Edita Prima OY in Helsinki. Beyond that, he was always there to lend a helping hand in other countries as well.
Kai’s profound knowledge was recognized, and he enjoyed an excellent reputation in Danbury, where he did countless check-outs over the years. His contribution to the team has been invaluable, and he will undoubtedly be missed.
We would like to thank him very much for his many years of commitment and reliability. As he now opens a new chapter, we wish him all the best for the future. The entire team of the Central District thanks him for his commitment and sends best wishes for the journey ahead!

35 years as a service technician, Norbert Spiller retiring for new adventures!
Our colleague Norbert Spiller has just celebrated his 35th company anniversary - now a new chapter in his life begins: on 28 February 2025, he will be taking his welldeserved retirement.
Norbert put his heart and soul into being a service technician in the centre regionreliable, committed and always fully dedicated to our customers and colleagues. He not only knew the former Pitney Bowes products, but also was an expert in the entire BlueCrest portfolio. Whether inserting systems or sorting solutions, he was a true hybrid technician and worked at almost all locations.
Now he can enjoy his hobbies: Table tennis, playing guitar in a band and travelling are at the top of his list.
Dear Norbert, the entire team at BlueCrest Deutschland would like to say THANK YOU for your commitment, your expertise and the time we spent together! We wish you all the best for your retirement - you will be missed!
