Unholy Matrimony Program

Page 1

In 1978, Bloomers was founded by Joan Harrison (C’81) as the first collegiate women’s comedy troupe in the country. Today, Bloomers has evolved to a troupe for all gender minorities in comedy. For the last few decades, Bloomers has written and performed original sketch comedy. We produce a completely new show each semester both on and off Penn’s campus.

Like those before us, we wear our Bloomers proudly.

Program designed by Thalia Graeff. Cover art designed by Noelani O’Hare. Photographs by Riley Guggenhime.

Omg… you proposed? And I said yes?? And now we’re getting married??!! While we watch the Bloomers show???!!!! What a dream! There are countless people who made this production possible, besides the cast and band that are performing before your very eyes tonight. I want to thank everybody in tech, costumes, and biz for bringing our crazy ideas to the stage. And of course, my wonderful writing team for their dedication to laughter, their willingness to put up with me, and most of all, their love for one another. Bloomers members bring a range of experiences, backgrounds, and unique styles to the writer’s room, and we hope that our show reflects just that. Being a part of Bloomers has been the most rewarding experience of my time at Penn, and it would not be possible without audience members like YOU! So thank you for coming to support our little community, and feel free to admire this photo of me with Carey and Hannah, my dear friends and the Director and Assistant Director.

Saying What We Said

Carey Salvin

If Carey’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: that feeling right before you share BIG NEWS.

Drew Naiburg-Smith

If Drew’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: Carrot.

Isabel Sweeney

If Izzy’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: a bowl of lemon turmeric chicken soup.

Mallika Tatavarti

If Mallika’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: on a 6 hour walk.

Hannah Moskowitz

If Hannah’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: inside of a rugby ball.

Lasya Bhattiprolu

If Lasya’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: LinkedIn.

Mariana Garza

If Mariana’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: Chogon.

Molly Wisor

If Molly’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: Spokane prob.

Ellie Shames

If Ellie’s destination wedding was an abstract concept, it would be: downtown (in a Macklemore way).

Anna Hochman

Anna “Chicky” Hochman is this semester’s head writress. Known for her musicality, knowledge of pop culture (some have even deemed her a younger, somehow more beautiful Hunter Harris), and authoritarian leadership style, Anna is the best this damn town has ever seen.

Valeria Bonomie Piñerua

Our fearless chair, former head writer, and lover of remi wolf: valeria steers the ship and keeps us all from getting too out of hand, which is quite an accomplishment imo. also she was one of the brilliant minds who brought you amillion buggs — cheers to our fabulous leader!

Daphne Glatter

Not only is she the person to go to with complex calculus problems or niche questions about Machiavelli, but Daphne also possesses the gift of effortlessly causing eruptions of laughter and making every writer, young and old, feel seen. She’s everything the writing needs.

Iniyaal Raguraj

If you’ve met Iniyaal, you’ve probably noticed her fresh fits or contagious laugh, but under all that charm is a comedic genius. Her wit is so sharp it’ll floor you, and if that doesn’t, her dancing will. Whether nailing moves or hyping the room, she’s the life of the party!

Nysa Dharan

No longer does she say hook ‘em

To the bloomers show she does come

Such a quick wit

Writing she’ll never quit

As she walks through the doors of IGT Her essence Bloomers loves to see!

We are all so lucky to have Nysa as a buddy

Trisha Bheemanathini

Trisha is the go-to for perfume recs. She not only has a collection of perfumes but also a massive sticker book (jealous!). Trisha expresses herself in her little journal and she just might dedicate a page to you (unless you’re a barca fan lolll). We love you so much Trisha!

Abby Adelman

Abby. Where does one begin with Abby? Her wit? Her compassion? Dare I say everything that one could want to a great friend? But alas, we have few characters. Abby is so great and being in her presence is simply amazing. Abby is picture-perfect in every sense of the word.

Hannah Stoitchkov

Hannah, oh Hannah — so much more to say than banana! You inspire us all with your drive and intelligence, especially when you show up to writing dressed in business casual! We wouldn’t know what to do without your witty comments and love for Ochatto sushi.

Maia Saks

Beautiful boots and hair with lovely words to compare! Maia’s quick-witted comedy is as sharp as her style. Hailing the great city of philly- the words she writes are quite silly. It’s tough to be a part-time fashionista, full-time comedian, but Maia makes it work (and work she does!).

Natty Antwi

Natty, Natty, Natty…..Her eyes, they shine bright, but fear you must have for her fierce comedic might. She toiled and trekked from the great state of Mass - in shockingly fashionable garb may I add - to join top sketch comedy brass. I’m serious! Watch out for this girl!

Yvan Phan

Don’t be fooled by her tiny cuteness, Yvan sure does pack a punch. Our precious bulb can be seen walking about campus with a killer haircut and a sick outfit. Ask her to sing you a Radiohead song! The cops might come to arrest her for how good she sounds.

Leann Goldberg

Leann’s many necklaces and earrings get in a tangle with a stranger’s. Unable to become untied, they spend the rest of their lives together.

Riley Guggenhime

Riley gets a flat tire on her bike after a knitting needle falls into the street. A cute stranger bikes by alone on a tandem bike and stops to offer her the second spot on their bike.

Noelani O’Hare

Noelani’s soulmate walks by while she’s walkshifting but unfortunately she gets tackled to the floor by other members in Biz and misses her chance at love.

Teodora Dragic

Teo trips and falls on the Tavern dance floor but thankfully her soon-to-be sweetheart swoops in and saves her.

Thalia Graeff

Thalia receives dozens of love letters from her secret admirers but she’s so nonchalant that she doesn’t even notice them.

Moira Connell

After being reborn at her undeath party, Moira finds an angelic kindred spirit in the afterlife.

Izzy Welsh

After an exhausting day traveling from the Cannes Film Festival, Izzy becomes re-energized watching a thrilling tennis match with her future boo.

Camilla Moreno

While in the middle of brother coffee chats for her business frat™ she gets chatted up by a charming entrepreneur-turned-lover.

Erin Jeon

As Erin rushes to enter Fisher Fine Arts, all her Shakespearean and Patti Smith novellas fall swiftly to the ground, only to be picked up by her campus crush.

Melissa Redlich

After falling over herself in Soulcycle, her future hubby helps her up and encourages her to do five more bike push-ups.

Tina “everything is fake but love“ Zhang

She’s eight for eight! Tina has held the keys down for the last seven shows, and unfortunately for us, this is her last. Mommy is leaving the nest. I can’t wait to watch the documentary currently being made about her endeavors, our Herzog queen. To know Tina is to love her.

Helena “cat mom” Munoz

Helena is back to the bloomer! Have a cat? Drop it on her doorstep. She’ll adopt it. Seriously. She’s done it before, even between juggling her many jobs or running with you from Frankie T to Platt. Cue sad violin and lachrymose tears – she is leaving us for real now.

Nikki “bolo enthusiast“ Okoli

Get the DNMT3B out of my cavefish eyes so I can cry because Nikki is no longer an old bulb. She’ll play your housewarming parties a tad under the influence…of good vibes. 3 inch gap between pinky and middle finger. We will miss her more than her hardware.

DJ “elon musk owes me money” Bevan

DJ, aka deej, aka mr bevan, aka guy with the bike, aka man with the cam, aka david joseph, aka 2saxy4u, aka bald ass baby (fr check out 23 and me), aka clear rolls of film, is a pretty cool guy.

Isa “BRO.” Turri

Secret rapper. Get ready for Isa’s house debut tonight. On a slice of cake, she’ll fulfill her rap dream – while hella drippy. She always brings the icing on top with niche European fashion brands. She’s coming when you hear murmurs of “omg she’s so tuff” encroaching.

Marcus “Squidward“ Butler

Whips out clarinet while selling Bloomers tickets on Locust. Sacrificed his life for sneakers – persistently texted random 30 year old and met him at abandoned car lot. Shamrock shake. Marcus is our youngest band member, but still the only one of us who can backflip.

Veronica “hairy baby” Baladi

With her angelic highs and grizzly lows, Veronica will transport you to a meditative state, interspersed with visions of her trans-state pilgrimage. You’ll also learn she was born with a full head of hair. Btw, she reads Darwin –she is the survival of the fittest.

Leah Hopf

fitted skirt, lace bodice, perhaps some pearl buttons adorning the back... classy, understated, and timeless like the bride herself. the only non-negotiable is short sleeves so that she can flex to her heart’s content ;)

Keemia Sarafpour

Keemia would be a classy but timeless ivory wedding dress with a ten foot train and flapper influences. It would be worn with winged eyeliner and feature bold socks that would somehow be pulled off.

Anna O’Neill-Dietel

AOD would be a classy mermaid gown with a v neckline and sparkly embroidered designs along the sides. This dress would be a perfect combination of timless and unique!

Anna Hallac

Smart, stylish, and down to earth, Anna would be a classic A-line. She’d rock a sweetheart neckline because, well, she’s really sweet

Lily Grace

if lily was a wedding dress she’d be a sparkling bright purple puffy dress with a long glittery train. think three musketeers barbie dresses. obviously, underneath the skirt would be a mini dress for the reception, just as sparkly, fabulous and over the top as she is!

Zoe Lachter

Zoe would be a bias cut princess dress specifically like one from Barbie’s Princess and the Popper. She’d feature some lace accents and a veil that shows off da curls

Tova Niles

Tova would be an effortlessly chic gown that’s simple but still manages to make you do a double take. Simple but shapely with a beaded corset and low waist cascading into a long train. Not too flashy but elegant all the same.

Adya Gupta

Adya would be a raspberry dark chocolate cake with chocolate hazelnut pearls.

Connie Pan

Connie would be a vegetable-shaped chocolate chip carrot cake with nutmeg frosting and dollops of fruity meringue

Lillie Abella

Lillie would be whatever flavor the cake slice is on the set. It looks so good

Maya Mathur

Maya would be a heart-shaped homemade tiramisu with some chocolate truffles delicately placed atop.

Xue Jiang

Xue would be a circular one-layered chocolate raspberry cake with jam filling and a purple rubber ducky on it <3

Leo Barocas

Leo would be a pineapple upside down cake

Madison Dengel

Madison would be a carrot cake with carrots

Roshni Aneja

Roshni would be a funfetti four-tiered cake with lemon zest and a rich vanilla frosting

Sofiat Bamidele

Sofiat would be a two-tiered strawberry cake with white cream cheese frosting in a simplistic vintage style
