BOSS IS GEARED FOR SOLDIERS

As a single Soldier it can be very hard to deal with Army and personal life on your own. But guess what, you’re not alone. There is a program provided that aids in the well-being and morale issues of unmarried Soldiers, geobachelors and single parent Soldiers. Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) is a Soldier led program that consists of three pillars: Quality of Life, Recreation and Leisure, and Community Services. The program also provides life skills events that are designed to educate or certify Soldiers in a wide variety of abilities for adaptive and positive behavior. Some of the life skills provided are CPR, belay and high rope safety, survival swimming, concealed carry, serve safe certification, wilderness survival training, scuba diving, auto skills, gardening skills and self-defense.

QUALITY OF LIFE

Fort Bliss BOSS addresses Quality of Life issues to enhance a Soldiers morale, living environment, or personal growth and development. Issues raised during BOSS meetings will be directed to the appropriate command or staff agency for resolution on the installation. The BOSS Councils have the responsibility of tracking the issues and reporting them to the appropriate channels to fix the issues in a timely manner. Examples of issues that have been addressed are post gate hours, road closures, facility hours, barracks living quarter deficiencies, safety concerns, and on post transportation and shuttle schedules.

RECREATION AND LEISURE

TFort Bliss BOSS focuses on recreation and leisure. Many times a Soldier’s first duty station is Fort Bliss, it’s their first time away from home. They are in a completely new city and may not have any friends or somewhere to hangout. The Boss program is a way to

help Soldiers get out there, explore El Paso, make new friends, and overall improve morale. Fun activities are planned by the BOSS council working in conjunction with the FMWR Advisor and Garrison Command Team. These events are geared towards the desires of the Single Soldiers on the installation. Commonly, these work in conjunction with the development or use of specific skills, from cultural knowledge to physical activities such as fishing, skiing, surfing, paintball, rafting and more.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Fort Bliss BOSS makes a difference by volunteering in local and distant community projects and events. Soldiers volunteer in both the El Paso and Fort Bliss communities. This is always voluntary in nature and Soldiers find this to be personally rewarding. Community service connects Soldiers to the community on and off post and helps foster a sense of identity as it provides Soldiers a sense of accomplishment. These events can also help develop enduring partnerships with organizations across the installation and throughout the civilian population. This pillar of BOSS is inclusive to everyone, including married Soldiers and civilians. Everyone in the El Paso and Fort Bliss communities are welcome  to join BOSS at community service events. If the event is on post and volunteers need access, they can obtain a pass, visit bliss.armymwr. com, search Community Access Pass for more information.

Bliss BOSS is constantly looking for opportunities to give back to the local community. If you are an organization needing assistance in an upcoming or recurring event, please feel free to reach out to BOSS. For more information, call or text 915-892-5195.
