BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME, NURTURE IT AND IT WILL GROW

Clifton County Cricket Club was established in the 1980s and hosted many matches during the early years at the original ground, between Te Awanga and Clifton. As the playing membership declined the club ceased to operate.

WE ARE GROWING, WE ARE BUILDING SOMETHING UNIQUE

In 2012 the club was revived by a new generation of cricket enthusiasts. It hosted its first season of cricket during the summer of 2012/2013 at the newly established ground and artificial wicket on the Nilsson family farm, bordering Te Awanga to the south.

While cricket is at the heart of CCCC, it is a vehicle for a much broader list of objectives. Match days provide opportunities for families to get together, and it is a magnet for children who enjoy the ground’s rural aspect.

A COMMUNITY BUILT AROUND STRONG VALUES, FAMILY AND FRIENDS Development will continue as funding dictates, and will include continued planting. Hundreds of native plants have already been bedded into the surrounding hills and wetlands as part of a wider project that has support from other stakeholders to enhance birdlife between the hills and coast of Hawke’s Bay.

The CCCC has in its brief resurgence to date taken opportunities to contribute to the wider community, including hosting fundraising matches for worthy causes to providing a cricket ground for the local Haumoana School, to its ongoing planting project.

CONTRIBUTING TO OUR COMMUNITY AND REGION

The club’s committee is keen to maintain a charitable aspect well into the future through the asset itself, and by utilising the wide range of skills and abilities within the club’s membership.

In its first season about 150 people from Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand and overseas joined the CCCC. Along with a twilight weekday Twenty/20 competition, the club hosted matches against established clubs from outside Hawke’s Bay, and against one-off social touring teams. Fundraising matches have also been organised and hosted by the club.

SUPPORTING THE GAME OF CRICKET AT ALL LEVELS Through membership subs, a fundraising ball and generosity of stakeholders, the club is already well down the path towards its vision of having a unique and nationally recognised venue, including versatile pavilion, professional grass playing wicket, and landscaped grounds surrounded by acres of native vegetation.

The CCCC is investing a lot in its Te Awanga base, and envisages being around for generations to come.

FOR THE PAST, FOR the CURRENT, FOR THE FUTURE It’s a casual and social environment, but one that upholds a certain level of ethics and values that will wear off on, and be maintained by younger generations.

Anyone is welcome to head out to the ground to watch, participate or enjoy the surroundings on game days, and people of any age and gender who would like to support the club by joining as a member are encouraged to do so.
