OLLI at BSC is a stimulating community of inquiring adults, age 50 and above, exploring new areas of knowledge through courses, lectures, and community and college events. Discover new friends and new ways to bring meaning and enjoyment to life! The membership fee is $20 now through June 30.

Registration

ONLINE: Register for your membership and classes online at bismarckstate.edu/OLLI. New OLLI members will need to create a user profile in the registration system. Many of the terms refer to “student.” This term refers to anyone participating in OLLI or Enrichment at BSC. After you have completed your membership registration, you can then signup for the classes listed in the catalog. IN PERSON: At BSC Continuing Education Office, located in the National Energy Center of Excellence, 1200 Schafer Street, first floor, Door D, Room 107.

Ghost Towns in the United States (Part 2)

This class will cover Ghost Towns around the United States and the fascinating stories about why they were abandoned. A few of the locations include: Centralia, Pennsylvania; Thurmond, West Virginia; Omemee, North Dakota; Bannack, Montana; Bodie, California; and Kennicott, Alaska. Join Anne as she guides us through these ghost towns to find the answers about how they became a ghost town with “population zero.”

ND Nat’l Guard 164th Infantry in WWII Pacific Theater

This class will cover a brief review of the history of the Pacific Theater of World War II. Then, with great pride, Anne will introduce you to the North Dakota National Guard 164th Infantry, the unit with which Anne’s father, Harry R. Vadnie, served. Rituals and Superstitions

This class will discuss the creation of a society into which humans established a belief system based upon the mores and values of a given group of people. With the establisment of a culture, economy, religion, and other institutions mankind created a system of rituals based upon common beliefs and superstitions. We will delve into the customs and rituals which help create superstitions that exist even in our present day world.
