HEY LARKS FANS, Larks, Bull Moose AND Flickertails fans, We are so excited to welcome you back to Bismarck Municipal Ballpark, home of Dakota Community Bank and Trust Field for Season 4.

What started as a FUN play on words to honor the year 2020, our slogan, “See It to Believe It”, proved to be more ironic than we ever imagined.

COVID-19 has impacted all of us, but its also made us appreciate the little things like spending time with friends and family or going to a baseball game.

On behalf of our entire team, we want you to know we appreciate you - the fans. Your patience, understanding, and support during the unknown has inspired us to press on.

We’ve worked day and night, in conjunction with ND Smart ReStart, Burleigh Bismarck Public Health, Bismarck Parks and Recreation, and the Northwoods League to bring you a unique season so that you can enjoy America’s favorite pastime in a safe, FUN way.

As you may already know, this season looks a little different. To avoid the uncertainty of travel, we decided to bring three Northwoods Leagues teams right here to Bismarck, ND. The guys are excited to play the game they love and play all 48 of their games in front of the best fans in the Northwoods League.

To keep players, coaches, employees, and fans safe, we’ve also compiled guidelines in our Larks Smart Start Plan. Ballpark capacity will be reduced all season and emphasis will be placed on social distancing, hygiene, and individual responsibility. Our Smart Start Plan can be found at larksbaseball.com, on signage around the ballpark, and right here in the program.

Our community needs FUN now more than ever. While this season might be different, we’re all in this together. We’re asking you to be safe, be ND Smart and help us spread the FUN because together we can all use FUN to make a difference.

DO PART BE LARKS SMART There currently active cases of COVID-19 in Burleigh County. COVID-19 is a respiratory virus. Most people who are infected with COVID-19 develop mild or moderate symptoms, but some people develop severe complications, including hospitalization or death.

The Larks are taking steps, in consultation with state and local health authorities, to provide a safe and enjoyable experience at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark that minimizes the risk of exposure. However, anyone in attendance may be exposed to COVID-19, and all persons attending a game assume the risk of contracting COVID-19.

For this reason, the Larks encourage all fans to consult with his or her health care provider to determine his or her individual risk associated with attending a game. The Larks also ask everyone to follow all state and federal guidelines, including social distancing and hand washing, while in attendance to minimize the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.

C 6-0 215 R/R BRODY TANKSLEY IS A CATCHER from Bedford, Indiana who is returning for his second season with the Larks. He is in his junior year at Indiana University Southeast where he is currently pursuing a major in criminal justice. Brody is excited to be back in Bismarck.

“I was only supposed to be here for a few weeks,” Brody said. “And then I played really well, proved myself, and coach Repay asked me to stay for the full season. I did that and enjoyed it. Loved it. Loved the atmosphere and the fans and at the end of the year after our last game I asked him if he could help me come back to Bismarck the next summer.

Will [Flynt] called me and we got it set up and that’s what I’ve wanted to ... I loved it, I loved the do since last year.”

Despite their season being cut short, Brody started all but one of the team’s 19 games with the IU Southeast Grenadiers and acclimated a .356 batting average with 21 hits, 17 RBIs, and six doubles. Behind the plate he made 82 putouts, 10 assists, and even turned a double play.

He credits his dad for his introduction to the sport.

“My dad played growing up and he played a little in college and I guess he just got me into it at a young age,” he said. “I fell in love with it.”

When not playing baseball, Brody can be found fishing, playing video games, or hanging out with friends. His favorite food is steak, he enjoys the Harry Potter films, and likes watching the New York Yankees.

WILL FLYNT • FIELD MANAGER Will Flynt is entering his first season as the Bismarck Larks head coach and field manager. Will is a former professional baseball player who played with the Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles organizations. Will has been coaching for nearly 15 years. He began his coaching career in 2005 with the Florence Freedom.

DALLAS BOHLE • ASSISTANT COACH Dallas has played on or managed amateur baseball in South Dakota since 1974. He even started an over 40 amateur team that won six state titles. Dallas’ most recent escapades have included helping manage a baseball group in Arizona.

Even the Larks radio and streaming game announcers get into the act. It’s very likely you’re going to hear them describing the fireworks on the field by using lines like, “That one got out of here like a rocket!” “That was a bomb!” “What a blast!”

Rocket, bomb, and exploded… are they calling the game or the unbelievable fireworks display the Larks put on at the conclusion of select games during the season?

@T_REEEZY The Farmers Union Insurance Reading Program encourages students in the Bismarck-Mandan and surrounding areas to read. The more books they read, the more opportunities they have to earn super cool prizes such as a Larks pencil and eraser, a pass to the Dakota Zoo, ziplining in Medora and a free meal at Pizza Ranch! The program is built to encourage kids to read in a way that is fun and rewarding.

Over the course of four years, our reading program has more than doubled in size. This year we had more than 7,000 students, 383 classrooms and 30 schools participating in the program.

This year I had the chance to help kick-off the Reading Program with our Director of Fun (you may know him as the fellow in the yellow suit), Matt Wurnig. We traveled to numerous schools across the state of North Dakota and celebrated reading with bookworms of all ages! Clark the Lark and Merifeather Lewis joined us too!

I sat down with Matt and got the inside scoop on his Reading Program adventures...

Students get to attend reading program day at the ballpark if they hit a home run on their goal sheet. The Larks Reading Program is jam packed with fun educational activities for kids of all ages and is meant to motivate students to embrace reading and set goals for themselves that help them to be the best they can be. We believe the Larks Reading Program will help each student become a better reader and overall, become a better student.

Miracles happen everyday. That has been proven over and over again, especially this year. But we can’t make miracles happen by ourselves. That’s where YOU come in!

HOW JACOB IS USING STEM TO SERVE HIS PEERS, SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY? Jacob Hynek is a self-motivated fourth grader at Stanley Elementary School. He has a unique ability to see problems and figure them out on his own.

Jacob is the type of student teachers love to have in the classroom. He is willing to work with anyone and even makes an effort to seek out students who may be left out. His teacher, Mr. Hellman says, “I have seen Jacob bring out the best in other students by simply challenging them to something he knows they can do.”

WHAT MAKES JACOB STAND-OUT AS A STEM ALL-STAR? Jacob excels in math. He goes above and beyond to learn new concepts before they are even taught. To date, he has never self-taught a concept incorrectly.

Mr. Hellman says, “Jacob is one of the hardest working math students I have ever had. His enjoyment of competitive edge and natural curiosity to understand a new concept make him an excellent student. He is one of the brightest students I have had the pleasure of teaching.”

Last year, Jacob was selected to participate in the Math Meet. The Math Meet is a gathering of school districts in the western area of North Dakota where students compete in math events. Jacob works very hard to make this team every year and proudly represents the Stanley Blue Jays. Last year he took first place overall for third grade.

Jacob is also part of a new STEM before school club and participates in it regularly.
